So that's it from Cardiff, where Gareth Bale reached 100 caps and Wales moved onto 14 points in Group E.

Bale only lasted 45 minutes - and did not look fully fit after his injury lay-off - but Wales did not need their talisman on top form to see off Belarus.

Robert Page's side had too much quality for Belarus.

Belgium will be a different, much sterner challenge, but Wales have given themselves a chance of securing a second place.

And so to Tuesday. We'll see you back here then.

  2. Wales 'to a man magnificent' - Pagepublished at 22:16 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2021

Wales manager Robert Page told Sky Sports: "We knew we would create chances today and give ourselves the opportunity to win, so I'm really pleased with the performance.

"When we had opportunities we were clinical, to a man I thought they were all magnificent.

"[Replacing Gareth Bale was] always the plan, he's had two training sessions so it would have been unrealistic to have played him any longer.

"I said before the game that first and foremost we needed the three points, then we could enjoy the sentimental part of Gareth's 100 caps.

"Chris Mepham has been magnificent so we've got a replacement for Ethan Ampadu ready to step up, it wasn't a silly booking and unfortunately we just need to deal with it.

"We want to win every game, it will be no different Tuesday, we want to finish in style and not limp across the line.

"Thankfully we did that today, we want to go toe-to-toe with the best team in the world."

Gareth Bale told BBC Radio Wales: "From the first whistle we knew we had to be on it, it could come down to goal difference, and it was a great performance tonight and we're delighted.

"I felt good, I need to get match fitness which doesn't come easy, 45 minutes we felt was enough and we were in control.

"I was just going to play 45 and we always planned if we were two up we didn't need to risk another 15 minutes.

"We've got the best fans in the world. To have my 100th cap at home with them cheering my name made it very special and a day I'll never forget."

Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey told Sky Sports: "We did what we wanted to do, we wanted to be on the front foot early.

"Now we take this into Tuesday's game which will be massive, hopefully another special result.

"Full credit to Ben [Davies], he's been brilliant for Wales over the years and he deserved that goal tonight.

"Hopefully Gareth [Bale] will be good to go on Tuesday.

"We're excited that we're in a position now where we can finish second.

"We've had some great battles against Belgium over the years, hopefully another memorable one on Tuesday."

"If we win every game and I don't score I don't mind.

"It's obviously a huge game Tuesday, one of the best we'll come up against, and it's a fight we're ready for."

"We knew if we stuck to our game-plan the goals would come and they did.

"I want to get as many caps, goals and assists as I can for Wales.

"I'm glad I got a goal and hopefully I can do the same against Belgium."

Wales are projected to have a home tie in the play-offs at the moment, if things stay as they are.

They've pushed past Scotland (who play Denmark in their last game) in the rankings for that on goal difference.

Belgium have confirmed qualification tonight on 19 points.

I think for Gareth he'll hate this but the boys know it's about him. He'll have been disappointed not to play 90 minutes but he's been a fantastic servant for Wales and I hope to see him play for many more years.

The whistle goes and it is job done for Wales, who were far too strong for Belarus.

The night was supposed to be all about Gareth Bale, but in truth he looked short of fitness before going off at the break.

Wales led 2-0 by then thanks to Aaron Ramsey and Neco Williams.

Ramsey's second plus late strikes from Ben Davies and Connor Roberts rounded off a positive night.

It seems Robert Page just wants Hennessey to edge closer to his own century of caps.
