Belarus' recent form may be pretty miserable, but they have made it difficult for some of their opponents.

They only lost 1-0 in their home game against Belgium in this group, for example, and went down by the same scoreline in the Czech Republic.

And Wales fans need no reminding of the fact that their team made very hard work of winning in Belarus.

The goals have not exactly flowed for the Belarusians, mind you, so Wales look to be in a very strong position heading into the second half.

    Just watching Wales' goals again.

Think Ben Davies deserves more credit than we gave him initially for the shot which led to Aaron Ramsey's opener, a crisp volley from the edge of the area.

But having said that, Belarus keeper Sergei Chernik will feel he could have done better having spilled Davies' effort into Ramsey's path.

And Wales' second goal was even uglier from Chernik's point of view.

It's about experience, Gareth Bale will know his body better than anyone else.

I think he's doing off-the-ball stuff he needs to, picking up pockets, little touches.

Other players aren't on the same page, he's showing his quality even when he's not moving so much.

If you need a moment, Gareth Bale is your man, but if you need someone there continuously at a high level, it's Ramsey for me and he never fails to deliver and always seems to be in the right place at the right time.

  5. HALF-TIME - Wales 2-0 Belaruspublished at 20:32 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2021

The first half ends and Wales are in control thanks to goals from Aaron Ramsey and Neco Williams.

Robert Page's team can play better than this, but they are doing enough so far.

Joe Rodon makes a fine sliding challenge, prompting a big cheer from the home crowd.

Rodon is one of those Wales players - and there are quite a few - who is surely good enough to be playing more often at club level, isn't he?

Too many passes backwards invites a team to press you and Wales are overplaying it in the defensive third there. They need to cut out one or two mistakes in that part of the pitch.

  8. Mbappe seals hat-trickpublished at 20:30 Greenwich Mean Time 13 November 2021

    Anything you Kane do...

It's a first half hat-trick for Kylian Mbappe against Kazakhstan.

And how's this for an incredible stat...

The PSG man becomes the first France player to score a competitive hat-trick since Dominique Rocheteau in 1985.

Gareth Bale was very much the focus in the build-up to this game, but in truth Wales' newest centurion has not been a prominent figure in the game - as yet.

That is unsurprising given that he has been out injured since September.

You wonder how long his night might last.

Neco Williams pops up again down the left.

His cross is misdirected but Aaron Ramsey latches onto the loose ball and sees a shot blocked, then Williams does likewise.

I never get why Ben Davies doesn't play for Spurs, he's an eight out of 10 every week and those players are so hard to come by.

He can play anywhere on the left in defence, he's really underrated in the Premier League.

I'm surprised someone like Leicester haven't come in for him to play every week.

Almost an opening for Wales as Aaron Ramsey, who looks sharp despite his lack of football at Juventus, lifts the ball over the top for Daniel James.

The Leeds speedster is in space but even he cannot quite catch up with that one.

Not sure if that was supposed to be a long throw from Kirill Pechenin but, put it this way, he is not going to be dubbed the Belarusian Rory Delap any time soon based on that evidence.

    Wales clear.

Belarus keeper Sergei Chernik must hate playing Wales.

As well as his two mistakes tonight, he was at fault for Gareth Bale's injury-time winner in September.

Ethan Ampadu looks for Daniel James but slices his pass out of play.

While they are 2-0 up, Wales have been sloppy in possession at times in this first period.

That's Gareth Bale's best moment yet.

He sends a lovely flick to Harry Wilson, who tries to send Daniel James in behind only for Belarus to recover and clear.

Wales just need to keep being patient and tire Belarus out and that's where you'll see Aaron Ramsey come alive. Ben Davies has tried to play a ball in behind where there's four Belarus players to one Welsh and Bale has no chance there.
