GOAL: Norwich City 1-0 Brentfordpublished at 26 mins

    Emi Buendia

As Barry Davies would've said in his unmistakeable tone: "Lovely goal!"

Emi Buendia fires the leaders ahead with a superb solo run and low shot into the bottom left corner from just outside the penalty area.

Brentford cut open there after giving the ball away, but a fine finish nonetheless from Buendia to give his side the advantage.

Teemu Pukki's turn now to concede a needless free-kick for tripping Sergi Canos as the Brentford man ran away from goal.

Brentford fail to make the most of the set piece as another attack breaks down and ends with a speculative shot from the Spaniard finding the empty seats behind the goal.

JBM: Daniel Farke is right that momentum is key in the Championship and at present that is with Cardiff and Barnsley. Are they too far back to challenge for automatic promotion? Barnsley were tipped by many for relegation so have had a great season whatever happens.

Wayne Ellis: Norwich are home and hosed, but it wouldn’t surprise me at all if Brentford drop into the play-offs.

    Norwich City 0-0 Brentford

Lots and lots of patient possession out of the back, occasionally interrupted by an impatient foul is the pattern of this at the moment.

Seems like both sides are waiting for the other to make a mistake.

Sorry, but I can't resist shouting to myself "who invented the skip?" in Alan Partridge style when Oliver Skipp gets on the ball for the hosts.

I wonder how much proud man of Norfolk Alan would enjoy watching this current Norwich side?

The aforementioned Skipp does his best to get things going for them by bringing the ball out of defence to try and mount an attack.

    Norwich City 0-0 Brentford

Brentford with a lot of the ball in the past few minutes but well-organised Norwich hold them at bay for the most part.

Ivan Toney gets a bit of his right boot on a quickly-taken free-kick into the box over the top, but not enough to force Tim Krul into a desperate save.

Big chances at either end then so far.

Here's where Teemu Pukki should've put the hosts 1-0 ahead inside two minutes only to lift his shot over the crossbar.

And that should've been 1-0 to Brentford.

Sergi Canos misses a glorious chance for the visitors this time.

Bryan Mbeumo fires a ball across goal that Tim Krul dives out to try and intercept, the ball falls at the feet of Canos six yards out with the goal gaping and somehow he loses his footing and skews it wide.

    Agonising for the Bees.

    That's more like it!

Brentford with their first shot on target through former Canary Sergi Canos with a rasping right-foot shot just outside the penalty area.

Nice save from Tim Krul as he dives across to his left to palm it away from danger.

Back in Norfolk meanwhile, it's all been rather cagey so far with lots of neat build-up.

David Raya wins a free-kick as Ben Gibson goes careering into him in the air as he gathers a misplaced free-kick.

Three Premier League fixtures also on the agenda this Wednesday evening.

Burnley v Leicester City and Sheffield United v Aston Villa kick them off at 18:00 GMT and you can follow all the build-up, should you wish, right here.

    Norwich City 0-0 Brentford

Glorious early chance for Norwich and Teemu Pukki.

He's played in by Emi Buendia between the Brentford centre-backs and you'd expect him to hit the target.

But he lifts the ball over the crossbar and on to the roof of the net.

Impeccably observed that for a well-respected coach and manager.

Tim Krul, the Norwich goalkeeper, was handed his senior debut while at Newcastle by Roeder.

Before we do get under way, both sets of players and officials are pausing for a minute's silence in memory of former Norwich manager Glenn Roeder, who passed away earlier this week aged 65.

Well, Delia Smith is one of those fortunate enough to be allowed in to watch this evening from the directors' box as Brentford make their way out from the tunnel first in their change kit of dark grey/black.

Norwich next out in their yellow and green warm-up jackets.

There's a big relegation six-pointer on the cards later on, as well as a feisty south Yorkshire derby in store, at Hillsborough as Sheffield Wednesday host Rotherham United.

Darren Moore begins life as Owls boss looking to reduce a seven-point deficit to safety.

Rotherham are just a point above Wednesday, having played one game fewer, so could also do with a big result.

Wycombe will bid to keep their hopes of a Great Escape alive when they travel to promotion contenders Watford later.

So, Norwich start the evening with a seven-point lead over their visitors Brentford.

Close behind the Bees are third-placed Watford who host bottom-of-the-table Wycombe later while Swansea, in fourth, who also have a couple of games in hand, take the road to Stoke for the last of this evening's fixtures.

Just outside the picture in seventh and eighth respectively are Bournemouth and Barnsley, who could both go above Cardiff City in sixth with wins this evening.

More on that as we go on.
