James Burke: It isn't going to be 0-0...

Kirk: This is either 0-0 or something like 4-4, only one or the other is possible in a game like this. We all know which is more likely, though...

For the record, you mean the 4-4, right Kirk? Right?!

  2. Newcastle on the brink?published at 19:33 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2021

Newcastle v Aston Villa (20:00 GMT)

Steve Bruce's side are in serious trouble.

So much so that when we asked you to predict how the final table will look at the end of the season, you decided Newcastle will join West Brom and Sheffield United in the Championship next season.

BBC Sport readers believe Newcastle will finish in the final relegation place, with Fulham 17th and Brighton 16th.

  3. 'Relegation would be disastrous for Newcastle'published at 19:31 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2021

Newcastle v Aston Villa (20:00 GMT)

Disastrous. It has happened twice before under this ownership and fortunately they were able to come straight back up but I think it would be really, really tough to do it a third time if happened.

I am still hopeful, I am not hugely confident because of the momentum Fulham have in terms of their results and Newcastle are not playing well.

It would be disastrous if this club were to go down.

  4. Serious attacking concernspublished at 19:29 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2021

Newcastle v Aston Villa (20:00 GMT)

Due to the absence of Wilson, Saint-Maximin and Almiron, Jeff Hendrick is the only Newcastle player available for Steve Bruce tonight who has scored more than once in the Premier League this season.

A concerning statistic, to put it lightly. And of course, Hendrick starts on the bench tonight.

Newcastle have failed to win any of their six Premier League games without Callum Wilson this season.

Since the start of last season, the Magpies are also winless in their four Premier League matches when both Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin have not featured.

Only six of Newcastle's 27 league goals this campaign have not been scored or assisted by injured trio Callum Wilson, Miguel Almiron and Allan Saint-Maximin.

Meanhwile, Villa have scored two goals in their past four games without Jack Grealish - and only Manchester City's Ederson has kept more clean sheets than Emiliano Martinez this season.

  7. What went wrong for Wilder?published at 19:19 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2021

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

There have been major issues behind the scenes with Sheffield-born Wilder and club owner Prince Abdullah.

The owner felt he had provided funds for new players, including significant spending on strikers Rhian Brewster and Oli McBurnie, over the past two seasons with limited success.

However, Wilder felt this did not go far enough to strengthen his squad to the level required, which led to further tensions.

When the club opted not to bring in new players in January, Wilder knew there was a major issue given the Blades' terrible start to the season.

  8. 'Sheff Utd should have stuck with Wilder'published at 19:17 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2021

    Alan Shearer
Former England striker on BBC Radio 5 live

I am surprised. You see the job that he has done, where they were when he took over. I know they are having a tough season but I believe they should have stuck with him.

They are going to go down. He would want to prepare for next season but he doesn't see the club going in the direction he wants it and it looks like he is off which is really bad news for the Sheffield United fans I think.

  9. Wilder to leave Sheffield Unitedpublished at 19:16 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2021

The big Premier League news today is that manager Chris Wilder is to leave the club after almost five years in charge.

Wilder joined the Blades in May 2016 and took them from League One to the Premier League in that time, securing an impressive ninth-placed finish last season in the club's first year back in the top-flight.

But things could not have gone more different this time around, with United rock-bottom of the Premier League and effectively 13 points from safety with 10 games remaining.

They face Leicester City on Sunday, and have an FA Cup quarter-final against Chelsea next weekend.

  10. Villa look to keep European hopes alivepublished at 19:12 Greenwich Mean Time 12 March 2021

Newcastle v Aston Villa (20:00 GMT)

Aston Villa are ninth going into this match, but have played at least one game less than the sides above them.

Tonight, victory would take them above defending champions Liverpool and two points behind Spurs in the race for a place in Europe next season.

The dream is still on for Villa...

Newcastle v Aston Villa (20:00 GMT)

Newcastle were 10 points clear of Fulham last month, but now their Premier League survival is very much in the balance.

Newcastle are 16th, one point above Fulham in the final relegation place, and also Brighton who sit directly below Steve Bruce's side.

Both Newcastle and Brighton do have a game in hand on Fulham as it stands, and Bruce's men could really do with making that count this evening...
