  1. 'Victory gives us belief'published at 15:05 British Summer Time 11 April 2021

    FT: Burnley 1-2 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle goalscorer Allan Saint-Maximin told BBC MOTD:

"I did not enjoy watching from the bench because we [were losing] 1-0, but when I came on I knew I could help my team. It’s what I try to do.

"I made a joke with Joe Willock, I said I would do [score].

"This was the most important game for Newcastle this season. We had an opportunity because Fulham conceded in the last minute.

"Burnley are a difficult team to play. In my head I have one thought. It’s to help the team win.

"We know Fulham have one game more. This victory gives us real belief because after this game we have to play Arsenal, Leicester, Liverpool. This will give us a lot of confidence."

Everything has gone to plan for David Moyes and West Ham. They have been excellent when they needed to be and the difference is that extra quality from Jesse Lingard.

The first goal that he scored, the finish from that position, with the ball that he had coming into him, was just sublime.

Since then, they have been able to sit back, hit on the counter - and it's everything for Leicester to do now.

Since his West Ham debut in February, Jesse Lingard has scored the most goals in the Premier League during that period (8). He actually had a brief spell on loan with Leicester back in 2012.

deldude: It looks like Leicester City are going to implode like last Season.....by the way Jesse Lingard is living the dream at West Ham United.

DaddyM&N: Is this the same Jesse Lingard of Manchester United? Or Lingadinho?

    The Jesse Lingard season continues.

He's never scored more than eight in a Premier League season before and he's got to that number in nine appearances for the Hammers.

What a bizarre goal - Leicester almost just stop! West Ham just catch Leicester half asleep. That's the only way you can describe that goal from Leicester's point of view.

You just shouldn't concede a goal like that in the Premier League. In the Pontins League. The Beazer Homes.

You've got to deal with a routine ball down the middle better than that.

  9. goal

Unstoppable! But Leicester fans, look away now. That is a terrible goal to concede.

A huge ball is just punted over the top and Jarrod Bowen is clean through. He squares it for a tap-in for Jesse Lingard - but was Bowen offside?

    VAR check. No it stands!

David Moyes certainly brings game management to West Ham. He could be heavily criticised for that in the past and not being exciting enough, but he's certainly a stickler for players making good decisions in the right areas of the pitch - and it's something his West Ham team do really well.

Jamie Vardy could have had a penalty but he's flagged offside. That's a tight one but he was just off before he went down right on the edge of the area.

Gareth Southgate is in the stands watching on, I can confirm. Given that he was in the last squad I wouldn't say Jesse Lingard is being ignored, and he won't need a plane to get from Stratford to Wembley but I take your point.

Karl: If Jesse keeps this up Southgate can’t just ignore him. Unreal for West Ham at the moment!!

Alexsander Todorov: Jesse Lingard strikes again. Unreal turnaround for him. He’s definitely proven me and many others wrong. Get him on that plane Gareth Southgate.

Up there with Christophe Dugarry for great January loans.

Leicester have been poor so far but do now win a corner. Wilfred Ndidi is up for the header but can't connect and here come West Ham!

Great counter-attack again but the final ball back to Jesse Lingard is under hit and he can't get enough on a shot this time.

What a signing Jesse Lingard has been - for both parties, you have say. Brilliant for West Ham and for him personally, it's been a great move.

  16. 'We gave the game away'published at 14:41 British Summer Time 11 April 2021

    FT: Burnley 1-2 Newcastle

    Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche, speaking to BBC MOTD: "The biggest statistic you have got to get right is the scoreline. They have taken their chances but we gave the game away a little bit.

"With the second goal we got too deep. I believe in my players and what we try to do. I have spent £750,000. It's a challenge and it has been all season.

"It was a strange kind of performance because it was a dominant performance but you have to change that into wins. Nick Pope's injury has calmed down already. We've hardly ever had a full compliment of players this season and we still haven't."

Sho: Another game. Another goal for Jesse Lingard. Ridiculous form he's in.

Bobby Seagull: Can't believe how impressive Lingard has been since he joined West Ham. He has played with joy, freedom and expressed himself on the pitch, even regaining an England squad place. I really hope he can sign on a permanent deal. Champions League for West Ham?!

What a strike from Jesse Lingard. Absolutely brilliant finish. When the cross came in from Vladimir Coufal I thought 'no way is he going to be able to hit this!'

There was so much pace on the ball and the way Lingard controls the ball - he doesn't strike it. It was such a difficult ball as it was bouncing right in front of him to hit it first time.
