GOAL - West Ham 1-0 Leicesterpublished at 14:35 British Summer Time 11 April 2021

    Jesse Lingard (29 mins)

And there it is! Arthur Masuaku whips in a good ball from the left, it flies right through the goalmouth and is retrieved by Vlad Coufal. He has men in the box but instead pulls it back to Jesse Lingard on the edge of the area.

He doesn't catch his shot that cleanly but gets enough on it and it drops into the near post and in. Kasper Schmeichel unsighted? He didn't move!

The game has flown by so far. It's not full of incident but it's more about the play and how tactically each team have set-up.

  4. 'More twists and turns to come'published at 14:31 British Summer Time 11 April 2021

    FT: Burnley 1-2 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce told BBC MOTD:

"We've still got a long way to go, a lot of twist and turns as that's what the Premier League is.

"For me it's always been about the accumulation of points. There's a points tally you have to get to and we're creeping towards it.

"To come and win here is a big result for us.

"Burnley are very good, for me Sean Dyche doesn't get enough praise. We needed our goalkeeper to play well which he did.

[On substitutes Callum Wilson and Allan Saint-Maximin] "They weren't capable of doing 90 minutes. The question was, can they make an impact?

"We've been without them for so long, you can see what they bring. We know when we have people like them in the team you can see the impact it has.

"Without our biggest and best players it's been a struggle."

One thing you are going to get from Jamie Vardy is relentless pressure out of possession. West Ham will have to move the ball quicker than that if they don't want to get caught on it.

Jamie Vardy spins and gets a shot in from 20 yards but he never gets hold of it. Remarkably he has scored once in his last 17 games.

Much more fluid play from West Ham now, switching the ball from the right-hand side to the left.

I think both teams are trying to be really focused with possession, being really disciplined, getting on that goal-side all the time.

Nobody is taking a gamble, so it's going to have to be a good quality passing to break either team down at the moment.

  8. 'We're not a million miles away'published at 14:27 British Summer Time 11 April 2021

    FT: Burnley 1-2 Newcastle

    Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche, speaking to Sky Sports: "I don't think we threw it away but I think we could have done better.

"We gave them two chances. There were a lot of good things about the performance but there's a sense of frustration. Their keeper made a couple of big saves. We're a bit limited at the minute.

"It's a strange season for us. We played well for a large period of the game last week and didn't see it through. The same things has happened this week. We're not a million miles away."

It's been substandard stuff so far from both sides to be honest. West Ham have the beginnings of a counter but the pass through to the run of Jesse Lingard is not up to muster and the Foxes can clear.

Jarrod Bowen is then close to meeting a good cross from the left and he slams into the post on the stretch. Ouch. Knee to woodwork.

  10. 'This is so important'published at 14:24 British Summer Time 11 April 2021

    FT: Burnley 1-2 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle forward Allan Saint-Maximin told Sky Sports:

"I feel really great. Everybody knows this game is really important for Newcastle. I give this win to the supporters who couldn't be here.

"I’m really happy to help my team with an assist and goal in this important game.

"I was really frustrated when we were losing 1-0 and I said to the coach I would like to have time [and come onto the pitch].

"[This win] is a big opportunity. We are six points over Fulham. Now we just have to keep going forward and try to do the best we can do against West Ham.

"It’s important to come back stronger after being injured."

The draw would suit Leicester more, of course.

  12. 'We're dogged and resilient'published at 14:18 British Summer Time 11 April 2021

    FT: Burnley 1-2 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle's Jacob Murphy, speaking to Premier League Productions: "We saw in last week's game against Spurs a doggedness and resilience about us, and we showed that again.

"Allan just laid the ball into my path and I made a clean contact. The past two results have have given us a platform to get away from the relegation zone. It's a group that's together. We're a confident group."

It's a really early booking for that position on the pitch, lots of loose balls popping around in there. Tomas Soucek can't afford to mistime another tackle now.

  14. 'We have to take some points'published at 14:17 British Summer Time 11 April 2021

    FT: Burnley 1-2 Newcastle

    Burnley

Burnley's Matej Vydra, speaking to Sky Sports: "It was the same last weekend. We were so deep. The game totally changed and we lost again. In the Premier League there is so much quality.

"We were unlucky because we just didn't score that second goal. We have to be focused for 95 minutes. I don't know what's happened the last two weeks. We have to be focussed every single game and take some points because we have lost six points from last two games."

  15. 'We need our best players fit'published at 14:17 British Summer Time 11 April 2021

    FT: Burnley 1-2 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle manager Steve Bruce told Sky Sports:

"This win is big but there's still a bit to go. Certainly it's a helping hand. It's an important game, so to win it was very good.

"It's been difficult with our injuries. You can see what Allan Saint-Maximin brings to the team. We've missed that bit of quality and excitement.

"To be missing your top players constantly, it affects teams.

"We didn't play well enough in the first half. Second half we were a different animal. We can improve of course but it's there for everyone to see."

On Newcastle's first-half penalty shout: "For me it's a penalty because it's dangerous play. We saw the boy get sent off for Leeds for dangerous play yesterday. Wasn't that dangerous?

"We can't get carried away but [four points from two games] in the Premier League is huge. It sets us up nicely, we've got some tough challenges but this helps.

"Let's hope our players stay fit. As good as I think I am, I need our best players."

The game has been pretty dominant from West Ham in the early stages. Set-pieces I think could prove really important with how strong West Ham are but Leicester have certainly started defensively, on the front foot.

Leicester haven't really had a foothold in the game in terms of possession yet - which I fully expect them to have.

Leicester go direct. clipping a ball over the top for Kelechi Iheanacho to run on to but his shot on the run is wayward. More ankle than instep and it laces well wide.

Today is Mark Noble's 400th Premier League appearance by the way. The West Ham man is now joint 38th on the all-time list for games played, level with Gary Neville. He'll have a big part to play with Declan Rice missing.

Smart, old-fashioned link-up play between Leicester's front two as Jamie Vardy flicks the ball on for Kelechi Iheanacho, he finds space about 25 yards out and has no hesitation in cracking in a low shot but it's never going to really test Lukasz Fabianski. Easy save.
