    FT: Sheff Wed 5-0 Cardiff

Well that was the perfect advert for the kind of game the Championship can throw up - Wednesday are still six points from safety but they'll believe a great escape is possible.

That's us done for Easter Monday but we'll be back tomorrow as leaders Norwich host 18th-placed Huddersfield and third-placed Brentford take on relegation-threatened Birmingham.

Two easy home wins? This is the Championship, remember! Thanks for joining us.

As for Cardiff, it was always going to be a big ask to gatecrash the play-offs and it's been an excellent second half of the season regardless.

But that performance was everything you wouldn't expect to see from a Mick McCarthy side.

They're now eight points from the final play-off spot with only six games left.

Wow - five-star Wednesday thrash play-off chasing Cardiff to move off the foot of the Championship.

It seemed too good to be true when Julian Borner's header, Callum Paterson's volley and Adam Reach's free-kick had the Owls 3-0 up after 23 minutes.

But the hosts, without isolating boss Darren Moore, kept it going - Jordan Rhodes finishing a slick counter attack and Reach finishing the scoring.

Barry Bannan is taken off for Wednesday in the final minute.

The kind of change that, in front of a full stadium, would be received with a standing ovation.

He's been at his silky and creative best. Liam Shaw replaces him.

We're into three minutes of stoppage time at Hillsborough.

Bask in the glory, Wednesday fans.

Cardiff supporters, meanwhile... it'll be over soon!

Harry Wilson has been very lively for Cardiff since he came on. Running at Wednesday defenders and committing them.

You wonder why Mick McCarthy left his changes until so late - it wouldn't have changed the result but it might have made things more respectable.

  7. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 86 mins

    Sheff Wed 5-0 Cardiff

Nearly a very nice consolation goal for Cardiff, but Harry Wilson is denied by the outside of the post.

The Wales forward cuts in on his left foot and Wednesday keeper Joe Wildsmith was beaten.

    Sheff Wed 5-0 Cardiff

It's Wednesday's turn to make three changes, and all of a sudden this has the feel of a pre-season friendly.

Sam Hutchinson, Josh Windass and Jordan Rhodes are replaced by Joey Pelupessy, Andre Green and Elias Kachunga.

We're into the final eight minutes of normal time.

I'm trying to imagine Sheffield Wednesday boss Darren Moore sat in his front room watching this.

Bank holiday entertainment doesn't get any better than this for Owls fans.

As you might imagine, the pace of the game has gone now and not much is really happening.

Bottom of the table, lowest scorers in the league 5-0 play-off chasers, unbeaten away in 2021.

You've just got to love the Championship.

Sheffield Wednesday have been ruthless and clinical - something we've rarely seen from them this season.

They've picked the right times to attack in this second half and Cardiff haven't been able to put much pressure on them.

It's doing Wednesday's goal difference the world of good.

A triple change for Cardiff but it's too little too late.

Leandro Bacuna, Kieffer Moore and Jonny Williams make way for Max Watters, Harry Wilson and Sheyi Ojo.

The visitors still have 20 minutes to play.

    Adam Reach

    This is not a typo.

Adam Reach surges down the left, plays it to Josh Windass and continues his run into the box.

The return pass seems to be behind him but he manages to divert the ball into the bottom corner.

I'm sat here giggling because it all feels pretty unbelievable.

    Sheff Wed 4-0 Cardiff

    When it's not your day...

A long throw isn't cleared and Cardiff force the ball towards the goal with all their might but Curtis Nelson just can't scramble it over the line.

Wednesday somehow survive and their clean sheet remains intact.

    Jordan Rhodes (65 mins)

Moments after almost conceding, Wednesday launch a counter-attack and get a fourth!

It's all about the quality of Barry Bannan - after the hosts clear a corner the midfielder beats a man and plays a lovely reverse pass for Callum Paterson, who then passes for Jordan Rhodes to slot home.

    That's surely game over now.

    Sheff Wed 3-0 Cardiff

Wednesday are doing what they have to, and playing some neat stuff at times.

The impetus is on Cardiff to chase the game and they're not sustaining any attacks.

Mick McCarthy needs to use a few of his five substitutions...

    Sheff Wed 3-0 Cardiff

Aside from an early flurry in the opening minutes of the half, Cardiff are struggling to turn the screw here.

Mick McCarthy's side have won plenty of games despite having less of the ball, but what have they got in their locker when they have to chase the game?

  19. Postpublished at 55 mins

Adam Reach and Barry Bannan link up excellently on the left but Aden Flint slides to block a dangerous-looking cross.

Wednesday are still looking decent. Assistant manager Jamie Smith is clearly getting a tune out of the players in the absence of boss Darren Moore, who is having to isolate after a positive coronavirus test.

Mick McCarthy has switched Cardiff to four at the back, pushing Joe Ralls into midfield, as he tries to get his side back into the game.

You feel these next 10 minutes are pretty important for Wednesday - if they can see them out then it's a long way back for the visitors.
