    Sheff Wed 3-0 Cardiff

As expected Cardiff have come out for this second half all guns blazing.

Joe Ralls puts in a free-kick and Aden Flint nods it just wide.

An early goal for the visitors would get Wednesday doubting themselves, you feel.

Off we go again at Hillsborough.

I'm no expert in half-time teamtalks but I'm guessing the Wednesday players have been told to keep their focus, while Mick McCarthy has no doubt given his Cardiff side an absolute rocket.

Let's see if any of it makes a difference.

As for Cardiff, eight points to sixth-placed Reading is a huge margin to make up in their remaining six matches.

It's almost certainly going to be five clubs battling for the four play-off spots now and a 2021-22 campaign in the Championship for The Bluebirds.

Barring a miraculous second-half comeback by Cardiff, Sheffield Wednesday will be six points from safety with seven games remaining.

What a big victory this would be for Darren Moore's side as he watches from home.

    Sheff Wed 3-0 Cardiff

A dream half for Sheffield Wednesday, who had fallen to the bottom of the Championship before kick-off.

Julian Borner's header, Callum Paterson's fine volley against his old club and Adam Reach's free-kick has the Owls in control against play-off chasing Cardiff.

I don't think anyone really saw this coming.

  7. PENALTY APPEALpublished at 45+5 mins

    Sheff Wed 3-0 Cardiff

There's a high foot on Cardiff's Jonny Williams in the box but the referee isn't interested in awarding a penalty.

It was certainly clumsy from Callum Paterson but then again, Williams isn't exactly the tallest!

Callum Paterson - the scorer of Wednesday's second goal - goes down after being inadvertently caught by the follow through of Marlon Pack.

He's back up and carrying on, though the Scotland forward is limping a tad.

Three minutes have been added on at the end of this quite extraordinary first half.

    Sheff Wed 3-0 Cardiff

Callum Paterson chases down a Cardiff clearance and Wednesday win a corner from the resulting passage of play.

Wednesday's work-rate has been head and shoulders above their opponents in this first half, forcing errors from the Welsh side.

    A bit better from Cardiff.

Tom Sang plays a lovely ball into the channel for Leandro Bacuna to run onto but his low cross is dealt with.

Cardiff just haven't been able to get the ball down and put a real attack together.

Will Vaulks flings another long throw into the Wednesday box but keeper Joe Wildsmith gathers it with minimum fuss.

The hosts have dealt with Cardiff's threat pretty comfortably, and managed to play some lovely stuff at the same time.

    Sheff Wed 3-0 Cardiff

Cardiff boss Mick McCarthy isn't going to settle for this.

His side may have stumbled of late but he's turned them around since taking charge, and always demands effort as a minimum.

McCarthy hasn't lost in nine visits to Hillsborough as a manager - if that run is to continue, we've got one hell of a game in store!

They may be jubilant but Wednesday perhaps get away with one at the other end.

Replays of a Cardiff corner show Callum Paterson wrestling with Aden Flint - if the referee sees that he could well have pointed to the spot.

  15. Postpublished at 26 mins

    Sheff Wed 3-0 Cardiff

Amazingly this is the first time Wednesday have scored more than twice in a league game this season - it's taken them 23 minutes to do it here.

And against a Cardiff side that are unbeaten away in 2021 - a run lasting eight games.

Football can be a crazy game.

    Adam Reach

    I don't believe what I'm seeing here!

Barry Bannan and Josh Windass tee up the free-kick and Adam Reach casually strides forward and sidefoots the ball into the top corner.

The technique is top notch - Wednesday boss Darren Moore is having to isolate but he'll have a massive grin on his face no doubt.

All of a sudden the hosts are playing some swashbuckling stuff, Josh Windass winning a free-kick just outside the Cardiff box.

Definitely worth a go from here...

    Callum Paterson

He's scored against his old club with an absolute stunner!

Liam Palmer marauds down the right for Wednesday, controls the ball and drills it in for Callum Paterson, who volleys low into the bottom corner from just inside the box. A brilliant, crisp strike.

The big man doesn't celebrate but he has a smile on his face as the home side double their lead against play-off chasing Cardiff.

    Sheff Wed 1-0 Cardiff

Jonny Williams - making his first Cardiff start - is sporting a quite incredible beard and winning plenty of free-kicks in decent areas.

He's a slippery customer and Wednesday are finding it difficult to deal with the Wales midfielder when he drives at them.

  20. Postpublished at 17 mins

    Sheff Wed 1-0 Cardiff

A Cardiff free-kick into the box is headed clear but only as far as Aden Flint, whose shot from the edge of the box is gathered by Wednesday keeper Joe Wildsmith, who's wearing a cap to deal with the low sun.
