    Quote Message

You know what, Ukraine didn't stand a chance against us because we believed in ourselves. Kenny and his team came in 18 months ago and instilled this tremendous belief and they've made us into an amazing team - and look what we've done. We're going to the Euros next year, it's unreal.

  5. Let's put this in perspective...published at 21:51 British Summer Time 13 April 2021

    Northern Ireland 2-0 Ukraine

    Andy Gray
    BBC Sport NI at Seaview

This is a part-time side ranked 49th in the world.

They were written off by everyone before a ball was kicked in qualifying.

They've been ravaged by injuries and players have stepped up time and time again.

They scored a last minute equaliser against Wales and beat Belarus away with 10 players.

They had one friendly from December and the majority of their Irish League-based squad haven't played a competitive match since December.

They've played their must-win games behind closed doors without the vocal Green and White Army.

    It's a simply ridiculous achievement.

  6. True game changerspublished at 21:49 British Summer Time 13 April 2021

Northern Ireland 2-0 Ukraine (Agg: 4-1)

A second-half goal from captain Marissa Callaghan and a late strike from Nadene Caldwell gave Northern Ireland a 2-0 win on the night and a 4-1 play-off victory on aggregate.

    That's immense. Really immense.

These girls have made themselves heroes.

Game changers is the strapline, and my goodness have they changed the landscape of women's football in Northern Ireland.

    More reaction to come.

  10. Where'd they get that from?published at 21:34 British Summer Time 13 April 2021

Northern Ireland 1-0 Ukraine (Agg: 3-1)

Six minutes. Yes, you read that properly. Six minutes of injury time added on.

    Not sure how.

Northern Ireland must keep their heads and see this out.

Car horns are going off outside Seaview, everyone is on their feet inside the ground.

This is a special, special moment for a special, special group of players.

  12. RED CARDpublished at 21:32 British Summer Time 13 April 2021

Northern Ireland 1-0 Ukraine (Agg: 3-1)

Ukraine's Pantsulaya gets a straight red card for a ridiculous challenge on Sarah McFadden.

From bad to worse for the visitors.

Northern Ireland 1-0 Ukraine (Agg: 3-1)

That was dangerous from Olha Basanska, who got in behind the home defence on a rare Ukraine attack.

Her cross is well cleared and a minute later, NI keeper Jackie Burns comes and claims a cross from the other wing.

She has been dominant throughout while her opposite number has not been.

  14. Getting closerpublished at 21:23 British Summer Time 13 April 2021

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Ukraine

    Andy Gray
    BBC Sport NI at Seaview

Northern Ireland are dropping deeper but still look in control.

They want this more than Ukraine, and you can sense it with every tackle being cheered louder and every bit of strong defensive play being applauded vigerously by the home bench.

    It's within touching distance now...

  15. This is your captain Call-ing!published at 21:18 British Summer Time 13 April 2021

Northern Ireland 1-0 Ukraine (Agg: 3-1)

Northern Ireland fans will absolutely lap this up.

Captain Marissa Callaghan manages to get on to her own flick on to score a massive, massive goal and give her side the lead in the second leg.

    Watch. Enjoy. Repeat.

Next to nothing in terms of a response from Ukraine since falling behind.

Still 20 minutes to go, of course, but they will need to start threatening soon if they are to have any chance at all of ruining what could be a Northern Ireland glory night.

  17. Calmed down yet?published at 21:07 British Summer Time 13 April 2021

Northern Ireland 1-0 Ukraine (Agg: 3-1)

Wow. What a big, big goal that was. Insert generic superlative here.

As captain, Marissa Callaghan embodies everything that is good about this Northern Ireland team and it is fitting that she should score that goal on this potentially historic night.

  18. Never. Give. Up.published at 21:01 British Summer Time 13 April 2021

    Northern Ireland 1-0 Ukraine

    Andy Gray
    BBC Sport NI at Seaview

    Unbelievable!!! Never give up!

It's a goal which suits this Northern Ireland team down to the ground, with Callaghan showing determination which made sure she got to the ball first!

A very relaxed Northern Ireland came out like it was a game of five-a-side for the second half and they now look like a team in control as they build up a cushion.

Led by captain fantastic, if Northern Ireland didn't believe they certainly do now!

  19. goal

GOALpublished at 20:59 British Summer Time 13 April 2021

Northern Ireland 1-0 Ukraine (Agg: 3-1)

    Goal for Northern Ireland.

Captain Marissa Callaghan gets it and what an important one that could be!

A Julie Nelson free-kick into the box was flicked on by Callaghan who then managed to beat keeper Samson to the ball and slide it home.

Poor goalkeeping again from Samson and this time it has cost her side dearly.

Pretty much as you were in the opening stages of the second half.

No real attacking rhythm from either side, with Ukraine still looking suspect from high balls into the box.
