Rachel Furness may be injured but her influence is clear to see as she is as vocal as ever in the build-up to kick off.

That will be one advantage of having an empty stadium.

After that shock 2-1 win away over the Ukraine on Friday, it all comes down to this second leg in Belfast tonight.

It's five competitive wins in a row for Kenny Shiels' side - let's not worry about that heavy defeat to England in a friendly - so confidence could not be much higher.

Kenny Shiels warned of relaxing his players in the build-up to this game and so far it seems to be working.

It's been all smiles with the warm-up as the players prepare for the biggest match of their lives.

There's heartbreak for Rachel Furness as she misses the game with a broken ankle, but in a team as tight-knit as this, it's touching to see the injured players joking and laughing with the players tonight.

Reading the team news there is one very notable absentee in Rachel Furness, who limped off early in the first leg.

While NI's progress has unarguably been a colossal team effort, Furness has been the cog that brings this side together.

Her goalscoring instinct and aerial ability in both boxes are obvious, and manager Kenny Shiels summed up what the Liverpool midfielder brings to the team:

"Her personality, she's a figurehead. She's more communicative than any of our players, she brings different things to the team."

It's a blow but Shiels has been here before, with player after player stepping into the void left by eight high-profile injuries. He'll be hoping for one more push tonight.

Chloe McCarron, who replaced Furness in Ukraine, will come into the midfield with Sarah McFadden also set to return to a midfield role with Laura Rafferty slotting into defence, in place of Nadene Caldwell.

  11. History beckons for Northern Irelandpublished at 19:07 British Summer Time 13 April 2021

Northern Ireland v Ukraine (19:45 BST; Agg 2-1)

    Evening. Excited much?

Let’s be clear from the outset – no puddings will be over-egged on here tonight. It genuinely is that difficult to explain how important an occasion this is for women’s football in Northern Ireland.

What started with a demoralising 6-0 defeat at home to Norway, could tonight become one of the biggest success stories in the country's sporting history.

In a behind-closed-door stadium on the Shore Road in north Belfast, Kenny Shiels’ side are 90 minutes away from becoming the first NI women’s team to reach a major tournament.

They go into their Euro 2022 qualifier second leg against Ukraine with a 2-1 lead in their back pocket after a spirited display secured a shock victory in Kovalivka.

Avoid defeat tonight and they will book a place in the finals in England next summer.

Our live TV cameras are poised and at the ready, and we are too with our laptops as we bring you live text commentary, analysis and goal clips.

    History beckons. Stay with us.
