Man City haven't lost any of their last 29 Premier League game when leading at half-time (W28 D1) since a 2-3 defeat against Wolves in December 2019.

Chelsea remain winless in their last nine Premier League games when trailing at half-time (D2 L7) since a 2-1 comeback victory against Aston Villa in June 2020.

Suggests we're only getting one result here.

So, it's still just 1-0, City are heading for the title and Chelsea need to get back into this to ensure that points gap between them and fifth remains healthy.

    Game on.

  3. "That is the goal that might win us the league"published at 18:30 British Summer Time 8 May 2021

The advantages of an empty stadium? The substitutes can interact with the broadcasters.

When Raheem Sterling scored, one commentator could be heard to say the wild reaction from the City subs, who are sitting just in front of him, was over the top - and a bit like they had just won the Champions League.

Fernandinho, grinning widely, removed his mask and turned around to inform him that "it could be the goal that wins us the Premier League", which does sort of explain why they were so happy.

Mind you, there were not so many smiles from the City subs when Sergio Aguero made a mess of his penalty moments later. They were on their feet again, but with heads in hands all around.

  4. 'Probably Ramsdale's best game'published at 18:28 British Summer Time 8 May 2021

FT: Sheffield Utd 0-2 Crystal Palace

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United's Paul Heckingbottom to BBC: "Aaron Ramsdale's been excellent while I've been in this job. Today was probably his best game yet.

"The bit I really like about these players is their honesty. It was there to see again for the full game but I think it cost us today. You don't get a free-kick if you don't go to ground now. We would have had a penalty if Sander Berge had gone down. The way the game is officiated is promoting that type of behaviour from players.

"Daniel Jebbison's got a lot of attributes. There's lots of good work going on behind the scenes. He gets on the end of things in the box but he's only 17 so a lot more to come from him. He did himself no harm today with the way he performed."

Rich: Oh Sergio. It’s a penalty to win the league and you try to be clever. You’re a City legend but just put your boot through it, not pass it to the keeper. Pep will be apoplectic in the locker room.

  6. 'Honesty cost us a penalty'published at 18:26 British Summer Time 8 May 2021

FT: Sheffield Utd 0-2 Crystal Palace

    Sheffield United

Sheffield United's Paul Heckingbottom speaking to Sky Sports: "When you are a team where we are in the league, to suffer that goal so early was really tough. It put us on the backfoot and it was always going to be tough from there. We responded well in the second half but we were always vulnerable to their attacking quality on the counter-attack.

"I'll be totally honest, I don't like the way the game is going. But it's a stonewall penalty if [Sander Berge] goes down. There was a naivety on our part, definitely. But there is that honesty that has been so successful for us. The game is changing in a way I don't like.

"When we are on top in terms of momemtum, if we get that goal, you fancy us to go on and win it but we didn't get it. I feel for the players. They are flat and down. The honesty cost us in not winning a penalty. But that honesty means they will keep going to the end. We can't feel sorry for ourselves. That will be the message. There will be more players getting opportunities.

"Daniel Jebbison's someone I've worked with all season. He has done great with the young teams. He has great workrate about him. He has a lot of good attributes. He is only 17 and there is a long way to go for him to be the finished article but he deserved his opportunity."

  7. 'Very solid performance'published at 18:26 British Summer Time 8 May 2021

FT: Sheffield Utd 0-2 Crystal Palace

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson speaking to Sky Sports: "I thought it was a very solid performance in every respect. They found it quite difficult to mount any serious attacks. Of course all credit to some very dogged defending from the Sheffield United team and some wonderful saves from the goalkeeper.

"[Eberechi Eze] has progressed. There is a lot more to come. It was his first year in the Premier League. The major difference today between this game and two or three previously is that the opposition is more in our ball park.

"[Christian Benteke's] been good. There was a spell where he wasn't scoring. But he has tactically done the things we've asked of him and he's worked unbelievably hard. He has done all of that but actually improving and scoring goals on a regular basis. All centre-forwards need to score goals otherwise people question their credentials.

"At any football club, there's a lot of people that deserve credit that don't get it. The coaching staff of course - we share the workload - but also the sports science people, the medical staff and the analysis team. They are so important these days. They provide us with information to prepare the team tactically. There are other people too of course. In terms of investment, we have done an excellent job with the resources we have had at our disposal.

"Planning goes on for next season on a continual spectrum really. You don't think 'now we're safe, we'll think to next season'. You sort of think of that the whole way through. We should be thinking now in terms of what we need going forward. We were thinking in January what we needed."

I'm still shocked by that Aguero penalty. Just hit it, mate.

The Argentine has scored more Premier League goals against Chelsea than any other player in the competition's history (10, including two hat-tricks).

He's blotted his copy book there, though.

Imagine Chelsea get back into this now and City blow a chance to put the league to bed early?

    And that is that.

    Eventful end.

What I didn't get chance to tell you in all that madness was that during the first goal Andreas Christensen suffered an injury, possibly to his hamstring.

It meant him being replaced by Kurt Zouma and could well be a crushing blow to the defender with two big finals coming up.

  14. MISSED PENALTYpublished at 45+3 mins

    Man City 1-0 Chelsea

    Oh dear. Wow.

Sergio Aguero has delusions of grandeur, going for a cheeky Panenka and chips the ball straight to Mendy.

When you get that right, people laugh at the impudence. When you get it wrong, people just laugh at you.

Well, everyone but Pep Guardiola. He looks disgusted.

    It's all happening!

Billy Gilmour pulls back Gabriel Jesus in the box. It's minimal contact but it is enough for the ref, who points to the spot.

    Touch paper lit!

Raheem Sterling goes all goal-thief on us, nipping in to side-foot into the empty net after Sergio Aguero fails to finish Gabriel Jesus' low cross first time.

Would Aguero have recovered to finish? City don't care.

    Well, this is a start.

Hakim Ziyech, who scored the only goal in the FA Cup semi-final between these two, fires a shot from range that has Edersen diving to save.

Soon after, Antonio Rudiger has a pop from range that flies over.

Daniel (18:05) clearly never saw Gabriel Agbonlahor play. He is still offside right now.

I'll give you your Timo Werner and raise you a Joelinton.
