  1. Blue is the colourpublished at 17:20 British Summer Time 8 May 2021

Man City v Chelsea (17:30 BST)

    Guy Mowbray
    Match of the Day commentator

Blue is definitely this season's colour, with all the cool trophies to be seen wearing ribbons of whatever shade.

Manchester City already have the League Cup, and a win here will secure them the Premier League trophy for the third time in four seasons before these two meet again in Istanbul at the end of the month in club football's most glamorous seasonal soiree.

While City's place in the spotlight was forecast by all (once over a relatively scruffy start), Chelsea have been the rising stars of the year. Previously just a part of the pack, they've responded magnificently to the methods of Thomas Tuchel - who's not given them a complete makeover, but rather a light airbrushing in the areas most needed.

Eighteen clean sheets in 24 games - only conceding more than one once (freakishly against West Brom) - shows that functionality over flamboyance isa la modedown the King's Road in 2021.

It brought deserved success against City in the FA Cup semi-final three weeks ago - a game in which Guardiola's players looked uncommonly out of sorts. I wouldn't expect that to be the case again here.

After being almost perfect against PSG, City will be fired up for getting the job done, opening the champagne and laying a marker down for 29 May.

That's when the season will end, before the next one comes round so very quickly with the Community Shield. It could be Manchester City v Chelsea. What a very fashionable fixture.

Manchester City have been unbelievable. They didn’t start off in the greatest of form but they have come through in the end.

They have shown they can win in different ways, they have played without a number nine, we’ve seen the emergence of Foden and signing of Dias.

They are a joy and absolute pleasure to watch for anyone who loves total football.

  5. 'Not one thought about the CL'published at 17:16 British Summer Time 8 May 2021

Man City v Chelsea (17:30 BST)

"There is not one thought about the final of the Champions League because we don't have the Premier League in our hands," said City boss Pep Guardiola ahead of this game.

"I'm so cautious. I think if you don't have it, you don't talk about it.

"Always I've said the Premier League is the most important title.

"Financially for the club, qualification for the Champions League is the most important title, maybe, but there is no doubt what is the most important thing.

"Of course the Champions League is so special, it's nice, but this one means consistency and many things."

No that’s not a picture of Old Trafford last Sunday (above), it’s Etihad Stadium, the last time City actually sealed a title triumph here - that was in 2014, when Manuel Pellegrini was at the wheel and they beat West Ham 2-0 on the final day to hold off Liverpool.

If and when City get the job done, this will be Pep Guardiola's third league title in England, but his previous two triumphs have been clinched without playing (when Manchester United lost at home to West Brom in 2018) and then at Brighton (2019).

So, it’s just a shame there will be no fans inside the ground today if City clinch their latest title on home turf this time but there will be plenty outside by the looks of things when I arrived earlier - and 10,000 will (hopefully) be able to attend the game against Everton on the final day of the season (23 May) and give the team a send off before the Champions League final the following weekend.

It’s like a phoney war ahead of the Champions League final with Manchester City making nine changes.

You can’t say it isn’t strong and is certainly still good enough to win the game, but Chelsea now look the favourites with the line-up they have put out.

Man City v Chelsea (17:30 BST)

    Martin Keown
Former Arsenal defender on Football Focus

This game is part of a trilogy, we have already seen the FA Cup semi-final where Chelsea had an extra day to prepare, City made eight changes and got knocked out. I can’t see that happening today. City will go for it.

It was quite a tepid Man City performance at Wembley, they made a lot of changes and it wasn’t the real City, but today it will be. They want to finish the season in style and complete the job.

But Chelsea need the points to get into the Champions League, so it is going to be fascinating.

Telling that both Ruben Dias and N'Golo Kante survive the rotation.

Those two were absolute colossuses (colossi?) in their side's respective Champions League semi-final wins in the week.

There are no Manchester City fans inside Etihad Stadium to celebrate if they do clinch the Premier League title today, but there are plenty waiting outside already.

Hundreds of fans with flags, fireworks and flares were waiting to greet the players, singing "Campione, Campione, Ole Ole Ole", as you might expect.

Perhaps optimistically they were also chanting "Istanbul, Istanbul we are coming - we are coming at the end of May".

As things stand the City and Chelsea teams will both be heading to Turkey for the Champions League final, but it's unclear if any supporters will make it.

There’s so many different nuggets to think about going into this game, but if you are Manchester City you just want to wrap the league up.

For Chelsea it’s massive for Champions League qualification, especially after the Leicester result last night.

So you don’t want to show all your cards but they probably know all their cards anyway as they have played each other enough times. But both sides need a result today.

Here we go then, it is the game that could seal the Premier League title, wrapped up in a Champions League dress rehearsal.

Manchester City win and they are champions. But just to add that extra delicious wrinkle, a Chelsea win could well be a huge mental blow ahead of that big game in Istanbul.

I'd be very keen to hear how you feel this game shapes up on the psychology front?

Eberechi Eze has toyed with Sheffield United the whole game so sometimes you deserve a bit of luck - which he got with that deflection.

He just glides past players. It's effortless. A sensational performance today.
