Pep Guardiola is up there as one of the best of all time. The best team I have seen is the 2010-11 Barcelona side that beat Manchester United in the Champions League final.

He has been an inspiration for a lot of coaches and managers. They can play possession and on the counter attack. This squad is probably the best he has had at Manchester City since he arrived.

Steve Bruce is one of those honest managers. He knows if people say negative things about his team he knows why, because they are playing poorly.

But he has played with what he has had at his disposal. There are a couple of journalists up there that need to eat a little bit of humble pie because they have given him nothing but stick all year.

He has taken it on the chin and shown that when he has his best team they can cause problems. I'd love him to take that manager of the month award out to a restaurant with him and plonk it on the table.

Newcastle United

"They are worthy champions and have set the benchmark for a lot of years. You can't but admire them. We have to take part and give them a game.

"Their biggest strength is their depth. You know whatever team they pick they are all very good players. [Raheem] Sterling and [Gabriel] Jesus up front. [Ilkay] Gundogan is still playing.

"We still want to get as many points as we possibly can and finish above the points totla we got last year. I hope we can go out and play like we did against Leicester a week ago and cause them a few problems."

Scott Carson says he is over the moon that he is starting tonight.

"I got told yesterday, and I’m delighted - I thought my Premier League days were over but thankfully I’ve never given up and have got a chance tonight," he said.

"Of course I was surprised but since I’ve been here I’ve tried to work as hard as I can and be there if needed. Thankfully the manager’s seen that and given me a game tonight.

"Nerves? There always is every game you play but I think that’s good. Even with my experience it’s good to be a bit nervous."

Manchester City have won their last 11 away league games on the bounce and another would see them break the all-time record, currently held by Chelsea in 2008 and Manchester City themselves in 2017.

Then the history books will forever say that the day City broke the record they had 35-year-old Scott Carson making his debut.

How did Manchester City's staff and players celebrate their latest title win? By dancing and eating pizza.

"It was so nice,” boss Pep Guardiola said. “The unexpected parties are the nicest ones. If you organise a big party they are normally more boring than last Tuesday. We came here in our [Covid] bubble. We drank a bit, we danced, we hugged a lot, we remembered how good it was.

"Then at 11.30pm, 15 pizzas arrived and that was the best moment of the night. I was not in perfect condition to decide [which one] – but all of them were so good."

At the start of April, few Newcastle fans would probably have expected to have seen this picture just a few weeks later but two wins and two draws has seen Steve Bruce lead the Magpies to safety and earn him the manager of the month award.

"For me to win is a reflection on the players and my staff," he said. "They work tirelessly, and without them there's no award to win.

"I'm delighted, and I want to thank them sincerely."

I'm actually pretty chuffed for him. His style may not be everyone's cup of tea but he's had to face quite a lot of strong criticism this season.

Newcastle got another great result last time out, winning at Leicester, but it's no coincidence that they are doing well now they have their best players back fit.

This is a very difficult game to predict because I have no idea what sort of team Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola will put out, with his team confirmed as champions and the Champions League final two weeks away.

City have got two more league games after this one, away at Brighton on Tuesday and then at home to Everton on the final day. Guardiola will have a pretty good idea of his team to face Chelsea in Portugal, but he can't just rest all of them for a fortnight - he needs to keep them sharp.

Who he chooses to use beforehand, and when, is going to be key for making sure his best side are absolutely ready physically on 29 May. We might see a non-performance from City in one of their games before then, but I'm guessing their team will be strong enough to beat Newcastle.

Prediction: 0-2

Top scorer Callum Wilson has been ruled out of their remaining three matches with a hamstring strain so Joelinton starts in his place.

On-loan Derby goalkeeper Scott Carson replaces Ederson to make his first start in the English top flight since 22 May 2011, which also came against Newcastle, while playing for West Brom.

Kyle Walker, Eric Garcia, Ilkay Gundogan and Bernardo Silva also start in place of Aymeric Laporte, Benjamin Mendy, Ruben Dias and Sergio Aguero.

Actually, this game just got 100 times more interesting with the news that Scott Carson makes his Manchester City debut tonight!

He's been on loan from Derby since the dawn of time, but he's back in goal for a top flight game for what I'm told is the first time in a decade.

If Manchester City had met Newcastle a couple of weeks ago, the fixture could have had a degree of intrigue about it.

As it is, both sides have achieved their domestic objectives for the season, leaving little riding on tonight's game.

Still, with the pressure off the players could well play with a degree of freedom that could lead to an entertaining game.
