In Celtic's statement, one paragraph really stood out. "I have already had great discussions with Peter, Dom and the board about their ideas and strategy for the future of the club," said the new manager. "I know the club's new modern vision aligns very much with mine and we now look to go and deliver on this."

If that means Peter Lawwell will have an on-going say on the "ideas and strategy for the future of the club" then that's news. The club's "new modern vision" is something that needs explaining, too. What exactly does that mean. How modern? How visionary? Nothing will be dull at Celtic Park, that's for sure.

  2. 'Welcome to Scotland, Ange'published at 11:15 British Summer Time 10 June 2021

Welcome to Scottish football, Ange. Strap yourself in. Things tend to get bumpy around here.

The new Celtic manager's experience in Australia and Japan is undeniable. The tributes to him are widespread. No-nonsense, smart, successful. To pull off the rebuild of a team and a coaching staff, he's going to have to be everything his many supporters believe him to be.

  3. Celtic confirm Postecoglou's Uefa recognitionpublished at 11:06 British Summer Time 10 June 2021

Doubts were raised over whether Ange Postecoglou had the correct coaching licence to manage in Europe, but Celtic have confirmed there are no issues.

“Ange has successfully achieved UEFA recognition and endorsement in relation to his Pro-Licence issued by Football Australia," the club state.

"He begins working immediately and will be arriving in Glasgow as soon as current protocols allow."

Pre-season starts on 17 June for the Parkhead club, so it looks like the new boss won't be making the start of that as he will have to spend 10 days in quarantine when he arrives in Scotland.

  4. McKay 'struck by Postecoglou's passion for Celtic'published at 10:56 British Summer Time 10 June 2021

As for incoming Celtic chief executive Dominic McKay, he says that he has been "struck by Ange's passion for Celtic".

"I have been hugely impressed by Ange and his aligned vision to work with me to develop and evolve the club," McKay says.

"He is someone I believe has the coaching and managerial credentials to be a real success at Celtic and we are already working closely together on our plans for the season and seasons ahead.

"He is hugely motivated by this opportunity, honoured to be Celtic manager and eager to be part of the club’s future success."

  5. 'We've known about Ange for a number of years' - Lawwellpublished at 10:49 British Summer Time 10 June 2021

On the appointment of new Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou, outgoing chief executive Peter Lawwell added: “Ange is a manager we have known about for a number of years and someone who has been prominent in our thoughts for some time.

“He is a great coach who has attractive, winning football in his DNA. He has an excellent record, he is a very strong personality and someone with a real desire and passion to take Celtic forward.

“I wish Ange and Dominic [McKay] all the very best for the future and I am sure they will work towards delivering great success to the club and our supporters.”

  6. What can Celtic expect from Postecoglou?published at 10:41 British Summer Time 10 June 2021

Ange Postecoglou has earned praise from Pep Guardiola, is one of the "top 10 coaches anywhere in the world" and will prove "no second choice".

Those are the words of Tokyo-based football author Scott McIntyre, who adds that the 55-year-old Australian is a "serial winner and tactical innovator".

"Celtic supporters should be absolutely thrilled to grab a guy of his pedigree," said McIntyre on BBC Radio Scotland when asked about the man the club appointed after the long pursuit of Eddie Howe collapsed.

But the former Yokohama F Marinos boss represents "a huge risk", according to Pat Bonner.

And Natasha Miekle, from the Celtic State Of Mind podcast, added: "Every result that goes wrong, every point that is dropped, will be scrutinised through the lens of 'what could Eddie Howe have done?'"

David Scott: "Celtic showing they have complete confidence in appointing Postecoglou by offering a 12-month contract. Lose the Champions League qualifier and he may be out of the job in less than a month."

People might look at that as being harsh, David. But I must admit, the contract length raises a question...

As a neutral, this is exactly where I am at with this. We often find ourselves asking for something different in Scottish football, now we've got it.

It's going to be really intriguing to see how it all plays out as there is no doubt that Ange Postecoglou has a HUGE job on his hands.

But at the same time, you don't have to look far to see his credentials. It's set up for some season...
