Joe Newell's been one of Hibs' best performers so far. He gets plenty power in the shot but just clears the crossbar

  2. CLOSE!published at 37 mins

    St Johnstone 1-0 Hibernian

Decent hit from Joe Newell. He turns and drives at the St Johnstone defence, gets to the edge of the area and drives a shot over the bar.

It opened up for him, as they say.

Lots of determination from St Johnstone. Rooney's got the better of young Doig at the back post. I don't think he makes much of an effort to jump for it. But what a sweet cross from Wotherspoon as well. It's just begging to be headed in.

  4. Spoony's on itpublished at 34 mins

    St Johnstone 1-0 Hibernian

The cross from David Wotherspoon is sublime. A St Johnstone hero comes up with the goods once again.

    Now, how's your bottle Hibs?

  5. goal

GOAL St Johnstone 1-0 Hibernianpublished at 31 mins

    Shaun Rooney

    He's at it again!

Brilliant from Callum Booth in the build-up, he thumps into two tackles on the left of the Hibs box, and the ball breaks to David Wotherspoon.

The winger dummies, floats the ball to the back post where Rooney is waiting to head into the far corner. Goal in the League Cup final. Goal in the Scottish Cup final.

    Scenes.

  6. GREAT SAVE!published at 27 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Hibernian

It's THAT MAN, Zander Clark. Can you say that, for a goalkeeper?

Anyway, he denies Jackson Irvine with his foot after the ball broke to the Australian in the box. Huge save, which Clark is making a habit of this season.

  7. CLOSE!published at 23 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Hibernian

Great last-ditch defending from St Johnstone's Jason Kerr.

Martin Boyle, for the first time, finds space down the right and stands a ball up into the six-yard box, only for Kerr to nod it over his own crossbar to safety.

    That's what Boyle can do.

Hibs have had most of the play, but St Johnstone have had the two best chances - from Kane and then that was brilliant from Middleton and only a good tackle from Gogic prevented him testing Macey more than he did.

  9. CLOSE!published at 17 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Hibernian

Brilliant stuff from Glenn Middleton. He gets played through, weaves his way into the Hibs box, completely does Paul Hanlon, who's left flailing on the Hampden turf, but Alex Gogic gets back to rescue Hibs.

A good tackle is enough to put off the St Johnstone forward and Matt Macey gathers. What a run, though!

  10. Quarter of an hour gone...published at 15 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Hibernian

Joe Newell is a tasty player. Great passing range, lovely to watch.

He's come close to unpicking the St Johnstone defence a couple of times here, but that fabled back three have stood strong.

Quarter of an hour gone, and this final is yet to catch fire. We have had the first apology for swearing though...

  11. Lack of composure from Kanepublished at 14:12 British Summer Time 22 May 2021

    Willie Miller
Former Scotland defender on BBC Sportsound

That's where Kane doesn't show the composure - I've seen that on too many occasions. It's not an easy one for him to take, but he has to at least get his foot over the ball and make the goalkeeper make a save.

  12. Saints respondpublished at 9 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Hibernian

Ooft, Chris Kane has passed up the best chance of the match so far. Craig Bryson lifts a good pass forward for Kane, and he lashes it well over from about 12 yards.

He needed to get over the ball. Great chance.

  13. Fresh air swipepublished at 6 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Hibernian

That was a half chance there for Martin Boyle of Hibs. The ball fell from the Glasgow sky after a high lob into the area, he tries a half volley but can't get a clean connection.

It was about 12 yards out. Might have done better.

  15. Hibs on front footpublished at 3 mins

    St Johnstone 0-0 Hibernian

Hibs have edged the first few minutes in terms of territory. Jackson Irvine swung in a ball from the left, but Callum Booth, the former Hibee, was able to clear.

It's been said millions of times, but it really isn't the same in an empty Hampden.

There's a bit of that, plus Kevin Nisbet, Martin Boyle and more in Tom English's piece with the Hibs boss.

Worth a few minutes of your time. Read it here.
