He has his head in his hands.

Not really a clear chance for Pulisic, who was running at 100mph when he got the ball.

A big chance for Chelsea, one they've been looking for.

Mason Mount finds Kai Havertz, who cannot sort his feet out and the ball breaks nicely for Christian Pulisic, but the American shoots wide as he comes racing onto the ball.

    Chelsea 1-1 Villarreal

    Stephen Warnock
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

There's a lot of tired bodies and minds on the pitch now.

I'm sure both managers will have been talking about momentary lapses of concentration and mistakes to their teams to stop it from happening.

I am reliably informed that this is Villarreal and Spain defender Pau Torres' eighth period of extra time since May.

Got some stamina in those legs.

Liz Tray: This pointless Charity Shield-style match should not be going to extra time. That is mad. The season starts in a second. Chelsea don't need all this. And to think, it could have been us vs Utd. What an escape.

  8. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 91 mins

    Chelsea 1-1 Villarreal

A sixth change for Villarreal in extra time.

Aissa Mandi, who came and who gave without taking, replaces Yeremi Pino.

Neither manager will be happy with the match going into extra time just days before their league seasons commence.

It will be very interesting now to see how much energy each side put into the additional half an hour, which in truth looked inevitable almost from the moment Villarreal equalised.

Belfast and Northern Ireland are the biggest winners, I suppose. It's their Super Cup party and they'll host another half an hour if they want to.

  11. 'Expect a big improvement from Chelsea'published at 21:58 British Summer Time 11 August 2021

    Chelsea 1-1 Villarreal

    Stephen Warnock
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

Really good performance from Villarreal in the second half, they changed their tactics and it worked in their favour.

I have to say, the changes that Chelsea made haven't worked and the players haven't really got into the game - they were poor if anything.

We should expect a big improvement from Chelsea in this extra time. Tuchel is walking round giving out instructions.

Chelsea look leggy, which isn't good considering the season starts this weekend .
