The Blues have been linked with a big money move for Sevilla's Jules Kounde but might save the club a stash of cash if he continues like this.

The fact they are shooting into the Kop end, where most of their ever-enthusiastic fans are housed, could well be a factor.

And Chelsea definitely seem to have been affected by that Ziyech injury, but either way Villarreal have looked a different side since the break.

On the front foot, creating chances and not giving Chelsea a minute on the ball - they are properly making a contest of this now.

They probably should be level and you wonder now how Chelsea will respond.

For Chelsea it's a little disjointed, a little bit of complacency maybe or maybe they just need fresh legs.

Villarreal have become much more aggressive when they close down the Chelsea players.

They're not playing this back-six anymore, they're pushing players forward and that's also helping them.

Credit to Villarreal they've come back out stronger and they're giving it to Chelsea.

Their flow is much better.

Tell you what, it is a contest now.

Villarreal are vastly improved and are causing Chelsea a few issues at the back.

Boulaye Dia is inches away from getting on the end of a cross but Trevoh Chalobah stretches full length to divert the ball away from goal.

Wow, just seen a replay for Gerard Moreno's chance and it is an incredible save from Edouard Mendy, making up for his error by tipping the ball onto the post.

What a save.

It seemed certain that they'd equalise then.

He shaped himself perfectly - it crashes off the post but that mistake could by Chelsea could have put them back on level terms.

Villarreal almost gifted an equaliser.

Edouard Mendy slips from his goal kick and Boulaye Dia slips a pass through on goal to Gerard Moreno.

The dangerous yellows striker takes a touch and caresses a drive which kisses the foot of the post.

The La Liga side have hit the woodwork twice now.

Unai Emery is a real character on that touchline, you feel all the emotions and everything he is going through.

I'm fully expecting Tuchel to have dressed the team down at half-time, telling them they've got to go out there and finish the game off as quick as you can.
