Portugal think they are ahead as Jose Fonte heads in from Raphael Guerreiro's cross - but the whistle goes and the goal is disallowed. It looks as if Fonte fouled his marker to get the ball.

Paul Collins: Only been 11 minutes and I'm already bored of watching Spain. Passing around doing very little else while Portugal are doing nothing.

Back in the day, there was a maximum of five games at the Euros - the group stage then semis and final.

    Now there's seven - with a last 16 and quarter-final.

It used to be eight teams. Now it's 24.

I think Ronaldo is one of the greatest euros players ever, but the tournament has far more games now than it used to. Past players had to be on their game immediately

The last time one of these sides did not win the Euros was 2004 when Greece won the whole thing.

You'd have to go back to Euro 2000 for the last time neither side were in the final.

Nothing resembling a chance in the opening nine minutes in Madrid. It's been feisty though - and it's great to here real fans again.

Anon: For me Ronaldo is probably eighth in the list of great Euro Champions. 7. Panenka (1976) 6. Platini (1984). 5. Gullitt (1988). 4. Riva (1968). 3. Facchetti (1968). 2. Yashin (1960). 1. Muller (1972).

A bit of a niggly start here and Diogo Jota is penalised for fouling Ferran Torres. Liverpool on Manchester City.

Portugal are in what could genuinely be the toughest European Championship group to date.

    Spain's is more reasonable.

Group E: Spain, Poland, Sweden, Slovakia

Group F: Germany, France, Portugal, Hungary
