  2. 'Cohesion can help Solskjaer's cause'published at 19:47 British Summer Time 20 October 2021

Man Utd v Atalanta (20:00 BST)

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer brushed off widespread criticism of the club's form when he faced the media on Tuesday.

But Joe Smith from the Stretford Paddock YouTube Channel believes the Red Devils boss needs to re-unite the team on and off the pitch - and solve the ongoing conundrum of how best to utilise Cristiano Ronaldo.

Smith told BBC Sounds' Football Daily: "Top of the list, I think we need to see a team who plays with cohesion. Maybe we look at philosophy and tactics after that. Before anything else we need to look like we're all pulling in the same direction.

"This team is playing the worst it's played under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Before anything else we need to have everyone pulling in the same direction."

Asked about how Ronaldo fits into the Manchester United approach, he added: "There's an issue that needs to be addressed. If you're going to play Ronaldo every week you have to account for the fact that when you don't have the ball, you have 10 men.

"Regardless of whether we should have signed him, we now have to react to the fact we have signed him."

  3. OGS - now's the time to kick onpublished at 19:45 British Summer Time 20 October 2021

    Man Utd v Atalanta (20:00BST)

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at Old Trafford

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is urging his team to find another gear at Old Trafford this evening.

A run of one win in five games - and two in seven - has punctured United's early season optimism and serious questions are now being asked of Solskjaer, even if his position as boss is not under imminent threat.

"After making some great progress over the last two-and-a-half seasons, we're now at a point in our collective development where we need to kick on again," he says in his programme notes.

"Despite the last couple of games, we know the ability we have in this squad; now we need to strike the right balance and make it work, like we know we can."

  4. 'We want to be on the attack'published at 19:44 British Summer Time 20 October 2021

Man Utd v Atalanta (20:00 BST)

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer told BT Sport:

"The last few games we’ve looked a little bit open. We’ve been too easy to play through on counter-attacks. Today we’ve picked a team that will give us legs and energy. Our fans will also want to see us on the front foot.

"It’ll be nice for [Marcus Rashford] to play football freely without a niggle on his back or shoulders. The last few months he's been carrying an injury. You’ll see a smile now, and Marcus enjoying football is a brilliant sight to see.

"The last two or three seasons Atalanta have been scoring close to 100 goals in the Serie A, so we will have to defend really well. Plus we want to to hopefully be on the attack."

    It's all over.

Barcelona get their first goal and their first points of the Champions League campaign.

That keeps them in the hunt for the knockout stages.

But it was made very easy by a Dynamo Kyiv who did not have a single shot on or off target, just some blocked ones.
