Tom: If it was so easy to 'sit back, defend and grab a winner on the counter' every team would be able to pull it off and City wouldn't be sat top of the Prem. Time people started to appreciate how much skill it takes to play like Atletico!

Richard: Pep's just illustrating that they need to get the Haaland deal over the line.

  9. CLOSE!published at 21:07 British Summer Time 5 April 2022

    Man City 0-0 Atletico Madrid

Tell you what, five minutes into the second half and Atletico are already getting some joy in attack.

Antoine Griezmann stands his marker up then feeds the run of Marcos Llorente, but the Spaniard's cross is straight into the hands of Ederson.

    Darwin Nunez (49 mins)

    Game on!

Ibrahima Konate will be kicking himself because he misses his kick to make what should be a routine clearance from a cross and the ball runs through to Darwin Nunez, who is never going to miss from around eight yards out.

Liverpool looked so in control in the first half but now Benfica are back in it.

Mo Salah gets to the right side of the box but Jan Vertonghen is across to make the tackle and then almost sends Everton away with a good ball down the flank but the Liverpool defence mops up.

That was a real race down the pitch between Ilkay Gundogan and Antoine Griezmann.

Gundogan had a couple of grabs for Griezmann's shirt without actually getting hold of it to stop the France striker.

That could have been really dangerous. It was a good job it was Antoine Griezmann, who isn't Atletico's quickest player.

    Better from City already.

Kevin de Bruyne fizzes a pass into Ilkay Gundogan inside the box.

The German turns and his curler is brilliantly blocked by former City defender Stefan Savic.

    John: Bus 1 City 0.

Dan: I think [Bob] Liverpool's recent success has less to do with Klopp's beaming smile and more to do with the £130m or so spent on Van Dijk and Alisson but that's just me.

Rog: Surprised City don't swap Sterling and Mahrez occasionally to have a left footer on left wing and a right footer etc. Gets a bit predictable when they usually cut back inside to get on their 'good' foot.

  19. KICK-OFFpublished at 21:01 British Summer Time 5 April 2022

    Man City 0-0 Atletico Madrid

    Away we go again.

Liverpool with a comfortable lead, City with work to do.

And that's bad news for Pep Guardiola's men heading into Sunday.

Manchester City are being forced into wide areas. They are allowing City to have width but if they were to cross the ball first time there would not be much of a threat for the Atletico defenders.
