  1. Will delayed kick-off help Liverpool?published at 19:54 British Summer Time 28 May 2022

Former Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, speaking to BT Sport about the delayed kick-off and concern over Thiago in the warm-up: "It looks like Liverpool have had a situation in the warm-up as well so it might be beneficial to have an extra 15 minutes.

"It's not ideal but you have got to get on with it. If you are not comfortable in the warm-up, it's very rare you get through the 90 minutes.

"They can maybe afford to take a risk if it's a niggle."

As Real Madrid's ageing stars watched on from the touchline while their younger counterparts saw out a remarkable Champions League semi-final victory, it was evidence that the club's immediate and longer term future may be in better shape than many critics have suggested.

None of Karim Benzema, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos or Casemiro was on the pitch as the final whistle went on a 6-5 aggregate success over Manchester City that earned Carlo Ancelotti's side a spot in Saturday's final against Liverpool.

Rodrygo wrote his name into Real folklore with two late goals to take that tie to extra time, Eduardo Camavinga glided across the turf making the Bernabeu his own and Federico Valverde's engine was still whirring after 120 minutes.

  11. Salah out for revengepublished at 19:44 British Summer Time 28 May 2022

    Salah

Mohamed Salah's Champions League final motivation was summed up is a six-word tweet posted moments after Real Madrid completed a dramatic resurrection against Manchester City to set up a meeting in Paris.

"We have a score to settle," announced Salah, a superstar of few words but barely able to conceal the hint of menace in his message to the team responsible for the worst night of his Liverpool career.

When Liverpool meet Real Madrid in the Stade de France on Saturday, memories of a balmy May evening in Kyiv four years ago - when Jurgen Klopp's side were beaten 3-1- will be painfully revived for Salah.

That night in Ukraine contained many striking images, from the sight of Liverpool keeper Loris Karius alone and in tears at the final whistle after his calamitous performance gifted Real two goals, to the acrobatic bicycle kick from Gareth Bale to put Real on the path to victory.

But for Liverpool, it was the sight of a tearful Salah receiving a consoling pat from Cristiano Ronaldo as he walked off heartbroken after only 30 minutes, following a mischievous tangle with Real's enforcer-in-chief Sergio Ramos that encapsulated the agony.

James Olley from ESPN speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live: "It is the outer perimeter that is the problem.

"It is a stadium that has main roads out of Paris and the river at the back and the issue is that there are underpasses where they have decided to check tickets.

"At that point they are checking tickets, searching bags and taking alcohol off people.

"The problem is it takes time but secondly there are a lot of people outside without tickets. In an ideal world you would want something to stop tens of thousands of people without tickets getting to the outer perimeter and chancing their arm. It is tense out there."

This group of players is very special - Klopp speaks to BBC Breakfast

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has spoken to BBC Breakfast in the build-up to this game.

"This group of players is very special. The best I’ve ever had. We grew together, they are fantastic people.

"They are young but in the future it will be a joy to see what they are doing because they are so smart.

"It’s an open group. Some will join us, some will leave us. But the core will stay.

"And together with the people of Liverpool, we are quite confident.

"I know it’s a cliche but it feels like a family."

We asked BBC Sport readers to pick their all-time Liverpool XI this week and the results are in...

Ray Clemence (45%) beat Alisson (39%) to the goalkeeper role, while three of the back four are current players - Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andrew Robertson - alongside Alan Hansen.

Van Dijk (80%) and Hansen (73%) were the second and third most selected players, behind Steven Gerrard, who was named in 93% of teams.

Gerrard, Graeme Souness and John Barnes made up your midfield three. Xabi Alonso (33%) was the most selected outfield player in any position to miss out.

The front three were Mohamed Salah, Ian Rush and Kenny Dalglish.

We ran a similar selector in 2020 when the Reds won their first Premier League title and the one change since then has seen Salah take Luis Suarez's place up front.

You can still pick your XI here.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp talking to BT Sport: "Konate is a little bit quicker so it made sense.

"The pitch is absolutely ok. It is not the best possible pitch but okay.

"The comebacks kings against the mentality monsters. We know all about Real Madrid, we expect a very strong side but we try to be a bit of pain for them.

"We want to beat the best teams in the world."

  18. Real's sensational run of comebackspublished at 19:39 British Summer Time 28 May 2022

They were 2-0 behind with 29 minutes left against PSG in the last 16.

In the quarters, they trailed Chelsea 4-3 with 10 minutes left.

Thiago Alcantara was a major doubt for this Champions League final with an achilles injury. He has been named in the team but has been in deep discussion with manager Jurgen Klopp during the warm up and working away from the main team.

Liverpool fans will hope these are just checks to make sure all is well.

  20. How Diaz has made himself a Liverpool fixturepublished at 19:38 British Summer Time 28 May 2022

Liverpool v Real Madrid (20:00 BST)

Luis Diaz has scored six goals and created five in 25 games since his £37.5m move from Porto in January.

Within two months the Colombia forward had scored and assisted against Manchester United at Anfield, done the same in the Champions League quarter-final win over his old rivals Benfica and set one up against Everton.

By the time the Anfield faithful had created a song for him, he had also scored the equaliser in a 1-1 draw with Tottenham, netted against Villarreal in the European semi-final and helped his new team win the League Cup.

    Read about his rise here.
