Rangers must come from behind if they are to reach their first European final in 14 years after a resolute showing was undone by a late RB Leipzig wonder strike in their Europa League semi-final first leg.

The Bundesliga hosts were limited in their opportunities but take a slender lead to Glasgow thanks to a stunning Angelino volley five minutes from time.

Ryan Kent flashed a rare chance wide for Rangers, but Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side will have to hope the tie can be salvaged at Ibrox.

For large spells, their performance in Germany was composed, with a vocal home crowd growing all the more frustrated as time ebbed away before a goal that illuminated an otherwise tense tie.

But it will be Rangers hoping to call upon a raucous Ibrox next Thursday as a night of drama is teed up in Govan.

FT: West Ham 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

West Ham will have to come from behind in Germany next week if they are to reach their first European final in 46 years after Eintracht Frankfurt secured a deserved first-leg advantage at London Stadium.

Jarrod Bowen came agonisingly close to snatching a draw for the hosts in stoppage time when his overhead kick from a Declan Rice cross bounced down off the crossbar.

But that would have been harsh on Frankfurt, who were a constant threat on the counter-attack and showed why they had won away at Real Betis and Barcelona already in the knockout stages.

  4. 'We are now in a very good position'published at 22:53 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

FT: West Ham 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp: "I am not surprised by our performance. We can do this if we are fully focused, we have proven this often.

"Tonight it was another highlight for us. We wanted to make the first step towards the final.

"We were already brave against Barcelona and in the games before. We have to know that we have a lot of quality and must dare to play football, then this is possible.

"We have gotten a lot of support from our fans tonight, they believe in us. We are now in a very good position for the return leg. It's the big goal to win this competition, but we should not think of the second step before making the first."

Leicester City's Europa Conference League semi-final remains in the balance after a hard-fought draw with Jose Mourinho's Roma at The King Power Stadium.

Foxes' manager Brendan Rodgers will be disappointed they are not taking a lead to Stadio Olimpico for the second leg after they dominated the second half and came from behind to draw level.

Roma struck early when Nicola Zalewski played in captain Lorenzo Pellegrini for a smooth low finish underneath Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel in the 15th minute.

Leicester maintained their composure and deservedly equalised after 67 minutes when Ademola Lookman bundled in a cross from Harvey Barnes, via defender Gianluca Mancini.

Mourinho will be satisfied with this result as Leicester could not make their domination pay, with Roma keeper Rui Patricio saving superbly from lively substitute Kelechi Iheanacho, who also headed over from close range.

  7. Postpublished at 22:45 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

FT: West Ham 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt are just the third German side to beat an English team away from home in the Europa League, after Borussia Dortmund in March 2016 (2-1 v Tottenham) and Frankfurt themselves in November 2019 (2-1 v Arsenal).

  8. 'We will give it everything'published at 22:42 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

FT: West Ham 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt captain Sebastian Rode: "It was the difficult game we expected. We had a lot of good moves, defended well, we hit the post, they hit the woodwork.

"I am happy with the result and the game as well. Next we have the return leg at home, the stadium will be sold out and we will give it everything to make it into the final."

  9. 'We were the better team'published at 22:40 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

FT: West Ham 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

    West Ham United

West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek: "We had many chances. It is possible to go through, there is still a lot to play for in the second leg.

"It was hard from the beginning but we reacted well. We should go there very confident to go through to the final. We were the better team today, there is still a good chance for us. It’s possible to beat them, we are the better team.

"We didn’t show up good enough today. For some players the second leg will be the biggest game in their lives."

  10. 'Preventing high crosses for big players will be key'published at 22:38 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

FT: West Ham 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt scorer Ansgar Knauff: "I don't know if I am doing anything special. But as against Barcelona we put them under pressure right from the off.

"The early goal gave us a boost of course. But their goal did not put us down, we recovered well from that.

"The club, the fans, the city - we are on an incredible road here. We have analysed West Ham. I feel we did well to prevent their high crosses aimed at their big players tonight and this will be key for the return leg as well."

  11. 'Good to go home with this result'published at 22:33 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    FT: Leicester 1-1 Roma

Roma boss Jose Mourinho, speaking to BT Sport: "Maybe it's a fair result. They had more of the ball but we knew that. We were organised, we defended well, we couldn't counter-attack as well as we could, we lost a few balls, a few possessions but the team was fantastic in attitude.

"We played an opponent with a different culture, a different intensity and to take everything to Rome is good for us. I'm not saying it's easy but it's good to go home with this result. Let's go for the final. I'm not speaking about the final in Tirana, but the 'final' in Rome.

"Nobody would believe this is a Conference League game. Credit to the competition to have a game of this level and a referee of this level. This game was too good for the Conference League."

On the performance of English defender Chris Smalling, Mourinho added: "He was fantastic, along with [Gianluca] Mancini, brave. To play against Vardy the way we did, Smalling is playing so so well. I'm happy with the players but a little bit frustrated as we could've had more of the ball in the second half."

  12. 'We were a bit lucky from their bicycle'published at 22:33 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

FT: West Ham 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner: "I am very impressed by the lads, how they played, how they took the lead in the first minute.

"It's just impressive, the confidence they showed. West Ham threatened then, but we did well defending the set pieces.

"Borre's run behind the defence was instrumental and it's not the first time Knauff has scored from the far post. We wanted these runs and we also knew West Ham are sometimes a bit passive around their box.

"Leading after the first leg is always good, even though we were a little bit lucky from their bicycle kick. The lads did so well, they positioned well against their very physical defence and Borre moved well between the lines, so we evaded their man marking."

  13. We have to win - Soucekpublished at 22:30 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    West Ham 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport at London Stadium

West Ham midfielder Tomas Soucek was blunt and to the point when he was asked to assess the situation in the semi-final after tonight's game at London Stadium.

"For many players, the second leg will be one of the biggest games of their lives because it is one step from the final," he said.

"We have to win. We need to be ready from the first minute."

  14. 'We didn't play well enough to get a result'published at 22:28 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

FT: West Ham 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

    West Ham United

West Ham boss David Moyes speaking to BT Sport: "Not what we wanted - we didn't play well enough to get a result tonight but it's still there, it's not gone. We'll go to the second leg probably not fancied and do what we can to still make it.

"I didn't change too much [after first goal], I thought we deserved to get back in the game and if we had showed enough quality in the final third we might've got back in front but we didn't. Started slow in second half and gave away a poor goal for the second.

"I think we missed an awful lot of opportunities to create chances, we should've made more, we had chances to cross the ball better and didn't take them, we missed big chances in the box. We made some chances and had one or two efforts, we'll have to make more next week."

On Michail Antonio's goal: "I hope it will do him good, he works hard for the team, we need some quality up front. We need everybody to try and take their chances when they come."

  15. Postpublished at 22:25 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

FT: West Ham 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

West Ham are just the third side to lose the first leg of a semi-final at home in the Europa League.

The others - Basel v Chelsea in 2012-13 and Celta Vigo v Manchester United in 2016-17 - were both knocked out.

  16. 'We dominated the game'published at 22:23 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

    FT: Leicester 1-1 Roma

    Leicester City

Leicester boss Brendan Rodgers, speaking to BT Sport: "I thought we played ever so well, really dominated the game, very pleased with the performance. You want to start well, bring your tempo and intensity into the game. The only thing missing was the final bit of quality in the final third.

"The players coming into the game, it is the benefit of having five subs and players who can come in and influence it - he has done great, (Harvey) Barnes.

"We really worked them and opened up the space as well - the (Roma) back line of five, midfield in front of that - some of our play was excellent, it was just that final pass or combination play to get us in.

"We have come through a couple of legs against two outstanding teams, Rennes in particular were outstanding. PSV, they won the Dutch Cup, so that shows you. We were really good in our game and that gives us great confidence going into the second leg."

  17. 'I still have confidence in this group'published at 22:21 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

FT: West Ham 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

    West Ham United

Here is a better transcript of that interview...

West Ham forward Jarrod Bowen speaking to BT Sport:

"When we went 1-1 we had the chance to go and get another goal but didn't. They're a top side, we're disappointed - we hit the bar, we hit the post. We didn't want to lose at home but we've showed we can go away and get a result so it's about doing that.

"It's not what you want to do, concede a goal that early on but the reaction from the fans and us getting back into the game, we dominated and created chances even one goal down. They're a good team and scored two good goals."

On his chances: "I thought I had scored the first one and it hit the post and the one at the end I just thought hit it and see what happens. Unfortunately it didn't go in but still loads of confidence in this group.

"Antonio's hold up play is excellent, he's horrible to play against and to get a goal tonight hopefully gives him a bit confidence.

"We're behind in the tie. We've got to face the facts that we've got to go there and win and that's what we'll try to do."

  18. Postpublished at 22:18 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

The Eintracht Frankfurt fans were still so loud that it was difficult to hear what Jarrod Bowen was saying there. He said a lot more than that but no idea what it was.

  20. 'We didn't want to lose at home'published at 22:17 British Summer Time 28 April 2022

FT: West Ham 1-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

    West Ham United

West Ham's Jarrod Bowen to BT Sport: "At 1-1 I thought we could go on and get the goal.

"They're a top side. We hit the post and the bar. We didn't want to lose at home.

"I thought we dominated and created chances. [With the bicycle kick I] just hit it and see what happens."

On Michail Antonio ending a goal drought: "He hasn't been scoring but his play has been unbelievable. He's probably one of the toughest strikers to play against. I'm buzzing for him."
