    Bournemouth 1-0 West Brom

It's a good start for Bournemouth and new boss Scott Parker.

Emiliano Marcondes scored in last season's play-off final for Brentford, but couldn't agree a new deal with the west London club.

The Dane finds himself back in the Championship, but will be hoping he can be part of another promotion challenge.

What response do West Brom have?

GOAL: Bournemouth 1-0 West Brompublished at 12 mins

Bournemouth have the first goal of the Championship campaign and it's from one of their league debutants!

Nice interplay between Jaidon Anthony and Philip Billing on the left releases Anthony in behind the full-back.

The ball is squared and Emiliano Marcondes is unmarked around the penalty spot to send a low left-footed shot into the net.

It was close to Baggies keeper David Button, but he couldn't get down to it quickly enough.

Good advantage played by the ref too - Billing looked like he was fouled in the build-up.

    Bournemouth 0-0 West Brom

Albion midfielder Alex Mowatt lofts the ball towards the penalty spot, and Karlan Grant manages to get on the end of it.

But he can't get too much power on his header, which bounces into the arms of Bournemouth keeper Mark Travers.

Nice early feel of the ball for him.

    Bournemouth 0-0 West Brom

This time the Baggies do get a free-kick some 30 yards out as Emiliano Marcondes muscles Callum Robinson to the ground.

New man Alex Mowatt is standing over it.

    Bournemouth 0-0 West Brom

The hosts have settled into the game now, and are seeing more of the ball.

But a turnover in the Cherries half sees Grady Diangana running at the Bournemouth defence again on the right.

He chops the ball into the middle and then goes down claiming a foul, which the referee again waves away.

Dominic Solanke causes a few issues for the West Brom defence as he chases a through ball clipped over the top.

The ball won't sit down for the striker to run through on goal.

After a one-two with a team-mate he puts the ball back into the centre from the left-hand side of the box, but it's cut out by an Albion man.

  8. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Bournemouth 0-0 West Brom

Early flash point as Philip Billing clatters into Kyle Bartley as the West Brom centre-back clears the ball.

The Baggies defender isn't happy when Billing offers to help him up.

The visitors have started brightly, and are pressing high as we thought they would under Valerien Ismael.

    Bournemouth 0-0 West Brom

First time I've seen West Brom's new away kit.

It's a garish yellow number... think a luminous bruised banana.

Grady Diangana has an early run at Cherries left-back Jordan Zemura, and wins the game's first corner.

It goes deep to the back post and is diverted goalwards. There are faint claims for a handball but referee Dean Whitestone isn't buying it.

The 2021-22 Championship season is under way!

Will either Bournemouth's Scott Parker or West Brom's Valerien Ismael get off to a perfect start with their new employers?

This is the first league meeting between these two sides since March 2018.

The Cherries came back from 1-0 down to win that Premier League encounter 2-1 thanks to an 89th-minute goal from Junior Stanislas.

Incredibly, this is the first-ever match between these two clubs in the second tier.

Bournemouth v West Brom (19:45 BST)

The teams are out onto the pitch at the Vitality Stadium.

It's great to see a packed ground again.

New Cherries boss Scott Parker got a good reception from the home crowd when he was introduced to supporters a few minutes ago.

The former England international - a sharp dresser on the touchline - is in one of his suits.

    Kick-off is almost upon us.

  12. Can Ismael's 'Swarm Ball' succeed at West Brom?published at 19:43 British Summer Time 6 August 2021

Bournemouth v West Brom (19:45 BST)

    Rob Gurney
    BBC WM Sport

It's always a little foolish to read too much into pre-season, but West Bromwich Albion's 4-0 win at local rivals Birmingham was impressive, and means they haven't conceded in their four senior friendlies.

The 3-4-3 system Valerien Ismael favours gives them solidity and, going forward, fluidity in pretty much equal measure.

Dara O'Shea, Kyle Bartley and loan signing Matt Clarke ooked a fairly formidable combination, with Semi Ajayi as another option in central defence.

Darnell Furlong and Conor Townsend showed plenty of mobility in the wide areas, while Jake Livermore's pitch coverage, alongside Alex Mowatt, was outstanding.

That's going to be crucial if Ismael's 'Swarm Ball', to unsettle the opposition while they're in possession, is to succeed.

The front three of Grady Diangana, Callum Robinson and Karlan Grant showed their awareness, and an ability to interchange will prove a handful for most Championship defences.

But it's clear Albion still need squad options to cover injuries and suspensions as the season progresses.

  13. Late squad change for Cherriespublished at 19:42 British Summer Time 6 August 2021

Bournemouth v West Brom (19:45 BST)

Forward Junior Stanislas was named among the Bournemouth subs, but has now dropped out of the squad.

David Button starts in goal for West Brom, with England international Sam Johnstone on the bench with his future still uncertain.

Boss Valerien Ismael hands a debut to former Barnsley midfielder Alex Mowatt, and there's a first league start for Cedric Kipre.

On-loan defender Matt Clarke is not in the matchday squad after picking up a knock in training this morning.

West Brom XI: Button, Kipre, Bartley, O'Shea, Furlong, Livermore, Mowatt, Townsend, Diangana, Robinson, Grant.

Subs: Johnstone (GK), Ajayi, Ingram, Phillips, Tulloch, Zohore.

Bournemouth make two changes from their 5-0 win over MK Dons in the Carabao Cup last Saturday.

Centre-back Chris Mepham back after serving a one-game suspension for his red card in the second leg of the play-off semi final against Brentford.

Jack Stacey misses out after being forced off against the Dons, with Jordan Zemura coming into the back line.

  19. Baggies start life after Pereirapublished at 19:26 British Summer Time 6 August 2021

Bournemouth v West Brom (19:45 BST)

West Brom start life back in the Championship without one of the stars of their past two campaigns.

Matheus Pereira was instrumental in Albion's promotion in 2019-20 and was the club's top scorer in the Premier League last season, with 11 goals.

A summer of speculation over his future at the Hawthorns has ended with the Brazilian midfielder sold to Saudi Arabian club Al Hilal for an undisclosed fee.

Emiliano Marcondes scored for Brentford in their Championship play-off final win over Swansea in May, but left the Bees after failing to agree a new contract

Along with the arrival of Scott Parker as boss, there's been a bit of change in Bournemouth's playing personnel over the summer.

The Cherries have a slimmed-down squad this time around, with former Brentford midfielder Emiliano Marcondes and loan signing Leif Davis the only major arrivals.

Goalkeeper Asmir Begovic, defender Diego Rico and striker Sam Surridge have all left, but the club have kept hold of forward Arnaut Danjuma for now.

But with the likes of David Brooks and Dominic Solanke they have the attacking talent to challenge for promotion again, while they also have experience in players such as Steve Cook, Jefferson Lerma and Junior Stanislas.
