  1. 'Klopp has brought passion to the PL'published at 19:45 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2022

Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool (10-11 on pens)

    Jonathan Woodgate
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

He's brilliant, Jurgen Klopp. He's brought passion and energy to the Premier League since he's been here. He has a connection with the fans, they absolutely adore him, he has connection with his players and he's done a fantastic job.

Here was Lawro's prediction from earlier...

"I have a feeling this game is going to go the distance. Liverpool keeper Caoimhin Kelleher has a history of making saves in penalty shootouts, including against Leicester in the quarter-finals, and I just wonder if this final will end up being settled in the same way.

"Whoever wins, it will be extremely close. Chelsea will make sure of that, even though their form is not great. They carry much less attacking threat, but they are still solid and have not lost that.

"Liverpool are on a fantastic run of nine straight wins in all competitions and scoring plenty of goals too, but they might have to be patient at Wembley as they try to break the Blues down."

Lawro's prediction: 1-1 - Liverpool to win on penalties after extra time.

    Liverpool

Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher speaking to Sky Sports: "It’s a mad one. I got close to a few when it came down to me I didn’t even think I had scored the winning penalty. I’d forgotten I’d got the winning one. All the lads were class, I was just happy to score.

"It was more hit and hope. I got close to a few but all the penalties were very high quality, thankfully we were able to win.

"I thought we had scored when we got the disallowed goal but they had a few disallowed so I think a draw was a fair result overall."

"He [Jurgen Klopp] just said 'well done for scoring the winning penalty, there's a wall with all the goalkeepers on who have won cups so now you can go on that.'"

Give Kepa a break. Everyone says pre- penalties it's a lottery and after, theories abound. Nothing in it. Great final.

'Jurgen Klopp has done it again'published at 19:37 Greenwich Mean Time 27 February 2022

Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool (10-11 on pens)

    Jonathan Woodgate
Former England defender on BBC Radio 5 Live

We fancied it to go to penalties because we knew it would be tight. But for it to go to 11-10 in penalties, both keepers taking one [is incredible].

People say the League Cup isn't important, it is. Jurgen Klopp has done it again. Now they are on Man City's coat-tails and this should give them confidence.

Henri Colens: What a final! I feel for Chelsea and Kepa. Both Mendy (MoM) and Kelleher were superb. Jurgen Klopp - what a coach, what a manager, what a man! He has rebuilt Liverpool and instilled a never-say-die attitude. The transfer policy is fantastic, and the city loves him.

Kindergarten Klopp: Woof! My dad, a lifelong supporter turns 78 tomorrow. I dunno how many years my heart has left after finals like that!

Arjun Singh: No blame on Kepa there. We deserved to win the game by the end of extra time. Congratulations to Liverpool.

I don't think Chelsea will ask Kepa to be on penalty duty next time they win one in a game.

We'll never know if Edouard Mendy would have scored that. Or saved one of the 11 (ELEVEN) penalties he would have faced.

Mark Burt: Had to happen. Tuchel master plan, absolutely ridiculous. Mendy had a blinder and Kepa saves nothing and misses the penalty. You could not write it.

I can't help thinking that's karma for Kepa after his pathetic refusal to come off against City.

It's impossible to imagine a goalkeeper sub for penalties going worse.

Kepa conceded all 11 and then missed the crucial kick himself.
