Everton boss Rafa Benitez: "I think it is difficult to explain when you are winning 2-1 and concede four goals in a few minutes. We need to understand how to manage the game, especially managing when you are winning.

"We conceded four goals in a few minutes and normally you cannot do this in the Premier League.

"When you score the second goal that is when you have to be better compact and organised but we made mistake after mistake. Difficult to explain.

"We have to be better, especially when you are in control of the game."

Brighton v Man City (17:30 BST)

Brighton came from 2-0 down to beat Manchester City 3-2 in this fixture last season.

That win ended a run of seven straight defeats for the Seagulls against Pep Guardiola's side in the Premier League.

  3. 'A striker who knows exactly where the goal is'published at 17:26 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

Former Scotland forward on Final Score

It shows you where Callum Wilson's confidence is because it's not even a chance. It's dropped in front of him and the only thing he can really do is take a touch and lay it off - the safe option - but he hooks it back over his head right into the top corner.

That's a striker who knows exactly where the goal is because he scores it without looking.

Jon Evans: Aston Villa fans calling for Dean Smith to go and getting a "big name" manager should look at Everton. Carlo Ancelotti last season, Rafael Benitez this season. Only slightly ahead of us last season and only currently slightly ahead and just lost worse to Watford than Villa did.

    Former Oxford United manager

Brighton have made an excellent start to the season but this is their first game against one of the big boys and it is going to be hard for them.

Manchester City are playing well, and were excellent in their 5-1 Champions League win over Club Bruges in Belgium in midweek. Defensively, they give very little away.

    Prediction: 0-2

Listen to the most famous BBC Sport Limerickman's commentary on this game on Match of the Day tonight.

(I'm number three on the list of famous BBC Sport people from Limerick.)

  8. 'We clearly deserved to win'published at 17:20 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    Crystal Palace 1-1 Newcastle

    Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We deserved clearly to win this game. We had chances to win but unfortunately we didn’t.

"The manager is giving us confidence and we’re trying to show that on the pitch.

"We’re playing better football, but it’s about being consistent and about finishing it off when we have the chance to win the game."

On his disallowed goal: "It’s part of the game and we have to accept it. Last season we had a couple of goals where the VAR was for us, but today it wasn’t."

  9. 'We had control of the game'published at 17:19 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    Leeds 1-1 Wolves

    Leeds United

Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa to Sky Sports: “We deserved something more than the draw. Apart from some things at the start of both halves, we had the control of the game. Progressively we started to get closer and closer to the goal and to have won the game would have been more in accordance with what happened on the pitch.”

On Joe Gelhardt’s impact: “In the initial minutes when he came on it was difficult for him to get on the ball and in the 15 minutes he was causing danger constantly. Not only the penalty but a few occasions he could have scored.”

On Raphinha’s injury: “He received a knock and we don’t know the extent of the injury yet.”

It's always hard going back to your old clubs but Joshua King was playing with added impetus today. Well played to the guy.

King played 11 times for Everton last season... without scoring once

  11. 'That's the Ranieri factor'published at 17:17 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    FT: Everton 2-5 Watford

    James McFadden
Former Scotland forward on Final Score

That's the Ranieri factor. People looked at the result last week and asked what can he do. Well today it shows you.

They go behind and could have folded but they didn't - it was Everton who folded, actually.

It was dreadful defending but you have to give Claudio Ranieri and Watford credit. They got themselves back in, took control of the game and were absolutely clinical at the end.

  12. 'As individuals we have to look at ourselves'published at 17:16 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    Everton 2-5 Watford

    Everton

Everton's Demarai Gray: "We were in a good position 2-1 up, Watford made it difficult for us but as a group we have to take accountability. It not acceptable.

"The manager has made it clear it is not good enough. We have to concentrate and do things properly.

"It hurts but we have to move forward.

"As individuals we have to look at ourselves and make sure we are playing our part for the team. Disappointed and disappointed for the fans. We will get back in training and focus on making it right."

  13. 'That difference we have been searching for'published at 17:16 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    Southampton 2-2 Burnley

    Burnley

Burnley boss Sean Dyche to BBC Match of the Day: "I think there were a lot of good things about our performances. I've been saying that a lot lately but we had two excellent goals by Maxwel [Cornet].

"We are disappointed with the goals [conceded]. The first from a set-piece and the second from a mistake, but from a player that has been terrific for us. We brought him to add to what we do. He [Cornet] had been good but we had to be a bit cautions with him as he cramped a bit with a hamstring issue. He gives us that bit of difference we have been searching for."

On defending against Tino Livramento: "We did well on it second half and got Maxwel in the number 10 spot. The Premier League has good players and you have to deal with all of them, not just one of them.

"By our positive substitutions, it was clear we were trying to win the game. We took Maxwel off as a precaution as he's still getting up to Premier League fitness. It was another positive display with a couple of mistakes. Eradicate them and we are in good shape with what we are trying to achieve."

  14. 'It's baby steps'published at 17:13 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    FT: Crystal Palace 1-1 Newcastle

    Newcastle United

Newcastle striker Callum Wilson, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We were unfortunate to go behind but we showed great character to get back into the game.

"We were hoping it was a foul [for Benteke's disallowed goal]. Two players were on the floor so we knew something must have happened.

"After the week we had it was important to get a positive result. It’s a point on the board and something to build on. It’s baby steps – we’re going in the right way.

"I was waiting for one opportunity in the game. Sometimes they come so high so it was an instinctive finish. I was glad it found the back of the net.

"You have to stay professional. We’re professional athletes at the end of the day. Whether the change is positive or not, you have to get on with it and try and get a result."

  15. 'Even after Richarlison scored I had a feeling'published at 17:10 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    Everton 2-5 Watford

Claudio Ranieri and Joshua KingImage source, Reuters

Watford's Joshua King: "To be fair we went in at half-time and it was 1-1 and we felt we could at least get a draw. Even when Richarlison scored I had a feeling we would get something out of this game. When we scored the header the belief just grew in the team.

"For a striker it is confidence. I had a horrible season last season. Any striker when you start scoring gets confidence.

"We needed the win today. This is a great group with togetherness. This is a team sport and sometimes I won't score, sometimes I will. Any way I can contribute - goals or assists - I am happy.

"You have to bury the Liverpool game. They are on fire at the moment and probably the best team in the league along with Manchester City. This game was so important for us for our confidence. I think this game, espectially second half will get us pushing.

"The manager has just come in, his second game in, and that was a good performance by the team."

Leeds look to have a player on their hands in Joe Gelhardt.

Talk about the 19-year-old Scouser has been excitable for a while in this part of West Yorkshire, with the England Under-20 international regularly lighting up games for the Leeds Under 23s.

Today he has showed what the chat is all about in a dazzling cameo against Wolves.

Gelhardt lifted the team and the crowd when he came on, only denied by a superb stop from Wolves keeper Jose Sa before winning the penalty which did bring the equaliser after a storming run.

And he could have even grabbed the winner with the last kick of the game.
