  1. Farewellpublished at 22:44 British Summer Time 10 August 2021

Thanks for your company this evening, on what's been a really disappointing night for Rangers, and Scottish football.

Once again there will be no team in the Champions League, despite starting out with Celtic and Rangers in the qualifiers.

Looks like it's Thursday nights ahead for us! Until next time...

  2. Europa to provide some comfort?published at 22:36 British Summer Time 10 August 2021

FT: Rangers 1-2 Malmo (2-4 agg)

It should be said, Rangers have given the Europa League a right good go in the last two seasons. Falling short in the last-16 twice in a row.

A run deep into the knockouts again would definitely soothe the frustration of tonight's loss. But there's work ahead to get to that point.

  3. CL glamour gonepublished at 22:30 British Summer Time 10 August 2021

FT: Rangers 1-2 Malmo (agg 2-4)

Instead of the allure of Champions League nights against Messi's PSG, Haaland's Dortmund, Lewandowski's Bayern, or De Bruyne's Man City, it's Qairat Almaty or Alashkert for Rangers in a Europa League play-off next.

They need to dust themselves down quickly. A trip to Kazakhstan or Armenia awaits.

  5. Three defeats from four 'not good enough'published at 22:20 British Summer Time 10 August 2021

    FT: Rangers 1-2 Malmo (2-4)

Rangers manager Steven Gerrard tells Premier Sports: "We did really well tonight for 45 minutes. But we've got two restarts badly wrong and we've paid for it.

"The most frustrating part is we've lost the second half to 10 men. Two throw-in situations we've not defended well enough. Besides that, I can't really at the moment think of too many things that went wrong.

"To be 1-0 up and then go 2-1 down, a bit of fear and panic set in. We've got the second half performance wrong and that's on all of us.

"We've lost three games out of four and at Rangers that's not good enough. We've lost the second half 2-0 to 10 men and that's not good enough."

Why do Scottish clubs routinely fail in the qualifiers? Not always, of course. But we seem to fail to punch our weight time and again.

Lack of preparation? Complacency? Answers on a postcard.

  11. Tomasson spot onpublished at 21:59 British Summer Time 10 August 2021

FT: Rangers 1-2 Malmo (agg 2-4)

Credit to Malmo boss Jon Dahl Tomasson, he got that second half spot on.

Losing his midfield pivot to a controversial red card right on half time, and he kept two strikers on and went for it at the start of the second half.

Got the goals, and they defended for their lives.

FT: Rangers 1-2 Malmo (2-4 agg)

Malmo love scudding a Scottish side. Celtic, Hibernian, now Rangers.

They're jubilant on the Ibrox pitch. Plenty to think about for Steven Gerrard.

Three defeats in a row for him for the first time as a manager.
