So Rangers are the first team into the quarter-final of the League Cup.

And then, four more ties on Sunday complete the second round, with the draw taking place after Celtic's home clash with Hearts. And the draw won't be seeded, so anyone could face anyone.

Rangers assistant Gary McAllister tells Premier Sports: "We started the game ever so well. We looked nice and sharp in front of goal.

"It's been a tough week. We scored an early goal, which helps. We looked exciting.

"Scott Wright and Ianis Hagi were excellent tonight. We've got a heavy schedule. Every player is so key."

Rangers left-back Calvin Bassey tells Premier Sports: "I felt the boys did the right things today.

"It was good to put in a performance like that and get back to winning ways.

"We have a lot of games. We're happy, we're going to enjoy the moment but tomorrow we'll focus on the next game."

Rangers threatened to run up a cricket score, but in the end it's just 5-0, which almost flatters Dunfermline considering the pressure they were under for the 90 minutes. Kemar Roofe scores twice - one from the penalty spot - with John Lundstram, Scott Wright and Ianis Hagi also helping themselves to goals.

Steven Gerrards' side are safely into the next round of the Scottish League Cup.

Alfredo Morelos gets to Scot Arfield's dinked ball into the middle but can't control it, then Kemar Roofe misses the ball as he tries to connect.

Roofe again searches for that hat-trick as he collects a pass and opens up his left foot, but his weak shot is an easy save for the goalkeeper.

Rangers' Alfredo Morelos twists and turns in the box then cracks a shot at goal that is deflected wide. The Colombian is desperate to get on the scoresheet tonight.

A cross reaches an unmarked Alfredo Morelos at the back post but he hits it first time rather than taking a touch to set himself, and has a bit of a fresh air swipe at it.

It's constant corners from Rangers. They've now had 12. Jack Simpson gets up highest and heads the latest one from Stephen Kelly over the bar. It's practically set-piece practice from Rangers here.

Jack Simpson should perhaps put a corner into the back of the net but his timing isn't quite right and he can't get to Stephen Kelly's corner. Then John Lundstram is off target with a shot and Alfredo Morelos tries a curling effort which goes wide.

Still relentless Rangers pressure, but after conceding four in the first half, Dunfermline have improved somewhat defensively since the break.

Another change for Rangers, and this time it's 21-year-old midfielder Stephen Kelly who is given the last 12 minutes in place of Glen Kamara.

Nathan Patterson has put a number of excellent crosses into the box, and from a corner kick he sends a delightful ball to the back post. Kemar Roofe gets something on it but can't direct it towards goal.

Rangers keep it alive but Joe Aribo shoots wide and there's temporary relief for the Dunfermline defence.

Nathan Patterson is left unmarked on the right of the box. Scott Arfield eventually places the ball into his path and his cross is not far away at all from reaching Alfredo Morelos.

Rangers are not letting up. Joe Aribo flicks the ball into the path of Calvin Bassey who tries to cut it back, but he can't get his cross past the first man.

Meanwhile Rangers make another substitution; Ianis Hagi makes way and Scott Arfield comes on.

Alfredo Morelos flashes a shot across the face of goal. It appeared Dunfermline goalkeeper Deniz Mehmet got his fingertips to it, but a goal kick is given.
