Kazakhstan are overloading areas of the pitch when Wales have the ball and are trying to force errors.

Wales need to use the ball sensibly and quickly.

    Wales 0-0 Kazakhstan

Now Rachel Rowe bursts into the penalty area only to see her cross-shot gathered by goalkeeper Irina Saratovtseva, before Kayleigh Green shoots wide from Natasha Harding's cross.

This, it's fair to say, is a very promising Welsh start.

Again Ceri Holland crosses invitingly from the left. This time Kayleigh Green is on the end of it but heads over the top.

  4. Chance!published at 3 mins

A first opportunity for Wales inside three minutes as Ceri Holland crosses from the left.

Natasha Harding gets in front of her marker but her header is saved.

  5. Postpublished at 2 mins

    Wales 0-0 Kazakhstan

Already some signs of space for Wales, as Rhiannon Roberts plays a good ball down the channel but Natasha Harding cannot quite control.

Hayley Ladd says there can be no excuses for Wales as they look to reach the 2023 World Cup, which is being hosted in Australia and New Zealand.

In her new BBC Sport column, the Manchester United player says "everything is in place" for Gemma Grainger's players.

"We have great facilities for training so there are no excuses from us, we have great support, a great foundation and now we want to take that and produce some good results," she writes.

    I think it’s a familiar 11.

I think that 4-1-4-1 will look very different when we have the ball with Rowe and Roberts providing width.

That midfield trio of Ingle, Fishlock and James is world class.

  10. Wales seek a fast startpublished at 19:08 British Summer Time 17 September 2021

    Wales v Kazakhstan (19:15 BST)

Kazakhstan have never qualified for a major tournament and lost all eight of their Euro 2021 qualifying games, conceding no fewer than 43 goals in the process.

It was a similar story for Estonia, although they did pick up one Euro 2021 qualifying point on the way to finishing bottom of their group.

No wonder, therefore, that Wales are targeting six points from their opening two World Cup qualifiers, against Kazakhstan tonight and in Estonia next Tuesday.

Wales narrowly missed out on a play-off place in qualifying for the last World Cup, and there was more agony in their bid to reach Euro 2021.

Under former boss Jayne Ludlow, Wales lost out to Northern Ireland due to an inferior away goals head-to-head record, despite finishing level on points with them and boasting a vastly superior goal difference.

Wales have a tough task in Group I, where top seeds France will be favourites to come out on top, but Jess Fishlock says they have "real belief" ahead of tonight's game.

"We know what we have to do. We want to qualify and we want to push the game and keep pushing for equality," said the OL Reign star.
