    Manchester City director of football Txiki Begiristain has paid tribute to Dias, who has signed a new six-year contract with the club this morning.

    "Ruben has already proved to be such a vital part of our squad", he said.

    "It tells you everything about his quality and importance to the club that we wanted to recognise his impact with this new contract.

    "He is everything you would want in a central defender and so much more and he will be a big part of our drive to bring even more success to the club over the next few years."

    Ruben Dias has spoken about signing a new deal to Man City just a year after joining from Benfica.

    "Playing for City has surpassed all my expectations and it's an absolute pleasure to be part of such an incredible squad," said Dias, who has made 50 appearances for City and was named the Champions League defender of the season for 2020-21.

    "To be part of the squad that achieved so much last season was incredible and made us all hungry to achieve even more.

    "Now I just want to try and play my part in helping us be successful this season and beyond."

    Tottenham Hotspur manager Nuno Espirito Santo said his side "still have things to improve" after Son Heung-min's free kick secured a 1-0 victory over Watford to move top of the Premier League table after three wins in three games.

    Spurs are yet to concede a goal under the former Wolves boss in the league this season.

    Son Heung-min scored the only goal for Spurs as they beat Watford on Sunday.

    So, no Cristiano Ronaldo yet at Manchester United but they got on with things with victory over Wolves yesterday.

    Mason Greenwood's late strike snatched all three points for United.

    Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side were second-best to a lively Wolves for long periods before Greenwood' contentious late winner.

    Wolves felt Ruben Neves was fouled by Paul Pogba in the build-up but the goal was allowed to stand.

    Cristiano Ronaldo may have been in Portugal, but he was everywhere at Molineux.

    The striker is set to complete a stunning return to Manchester United before transfer deadline day and, even though he is in Lisbon having a medical, his presence was felt before, during and after Sunday's 1-0 win against Wolves.

    United fans were in a carnival mood, celebrating the imminent arrival of one of their greatest, and it was an outpouring of love rarely seen for any player.

    Mason Greenwood scored the only goal 10 minutes from time to make it seven points from nine for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's men.
