There might continue to be a "points deduction elephant in the room" around Reading, but while that is being kept at bay, Veljko Paunovic's side have steadily been turning a corner after an indifferent start to the season.

Five wins in their past six league games have taken the Royals up to eighth. Midfielder John Swift is proving a key cog with eight goals in 12 games, including Saturday's solo winner against Barnsley.

Blackpool meanwhile had a four-match unbeaten run ended at Forest on the same afternoon. Neil Critchley's Tangerines have just the one away win so far this season at Middlesbrough in mid-September.

    Fulham 0-0 Cardiff City

Kieffer Moore inches away from giving Cardiff a surprise early lead.

The Wales striker is denied by the corner of the post and crossbar after he takes aim from a tight angle on the half volley on his left foot.

Marek Rodak a relieved goalkeeper to see it bounce behind for a goal kick.

    Middlesbrough 0-0 Peterborough

Sol Bamba has just breathed a huge of relief, as his backpass to Boro goalkeeper Joe Lumley was sold short and Clarke Oduor raced onto it.

The Tykes wing-back struck a shot from the right side of the box across the keeper but his effort pings the outside of the left upright and zings out for a goal-kick.

Big Sol is a happy man.

  6. Albion's perfect startpublished at 19:52 British Summer Time 20 October 2021

    Swansea 0-1 West Brom

    Gareth Vincent
BBC Sport Wales at the Swansea.com Stadium

Swansea came into this game with more confidence than at any stage in Russell Martin's brief reign having thumped Cardiff in the south Wales derby on Sunday.

    So much for momentum.

Jamie Paterson was the hero of the derby, but he gave away possession in his own third and West Brom punished Swansea clinically, with Karlan Grant tapping home his sixth goal of the season.

Albion are only the second visiting side after Stoke City to score a league goal on this ground in 2021-22. It's the perfect start for Valerien Ismael.

Fulham looking to heap more pressure on Mick McCarthy and Cardiff this evening.

A decent enough start from the hosts as they force a corner and then Harrison Reed takes an early shot from range but it's well over the crossbar.

Will there be some managers sitting nervously in their dugout seats this evening knowing that unless they come away with a positive result, it could see the pressure ramped up?

    Huddersfield 0-0 Birmingham

Huddersfield almost joined West Brom on the scoresheet early on with a superb break down the right hand side.

Sorba Thomas puts the ball into a dangerous area and Danny Ward darts towards it, attacking the loose ball but just turning it over with the outside of his boot. Lovely effort.

55 seconds is all it takes for West Brom to take the lead!

Swansea give the ball away straight from the off in their own half and allow West Brom acres of space to tee up a chance around the edge of the box.

Matt Phillips and Callum Robinson combine to pick out an unmarked Karlan Grant on the edge of the six-yard box to stroke home the opener.

  13. Back in business Barkhuizen hopes to ignite Prestonpublished at 19:42 British Summer Time 20 October 2021

Preston v Coventry City (19:45 BST)

Preston striker Tom Barkhuizen has begun his road back from recovery having missed almost three months of the season after contracting Covid-19.

The 28-year-old gave a very candid interview this week to our colleagues at BBC Radio Lancashire about how life in football has been put well and truly in perspective by the knock-on effects of the virus.

Issues such as agreeing a new contract are also not exactly at the forefront of his mind.

    Hull v Peterborough (19:45 BST)

Hull City and Peterborough bosses Grant McCann and Darren FergusonImage source, Getty Images

It's not been a good start to the season for the Championship's easterly-facing duo of Hull City and Peterborough.

Both promoted from League One last season, both keen to avoid yo-yo-ing back there at the first attempt, both struggling thus far.

Since an opening day thumping of Preston North End, Hull have lost seven of the following 11 games, with only a 2-0 win over Middlesbrough offering respite - and goals have been scarce. Just eight so far, three from Keane Lewis-Potter. Just a point keeps them out of the bottom three.

The Posh are only four points above bottom-side Derby - by virtue of the Rams' points deduction - as their return to the second tier has also swiftly soured. It is keeping goals out that has been their real Achilles heel, with 25 conceded the worst record in the division.

    Nil-nil tonight then, yeah?

    Huddersfield v Birmingham (19:45 BST)

    Fraizer CampbellImage source, Getty Images

If anyone is pleased to see Birmingham come to the John Smith's Stadium tonight, then it's Huddersfield striker Fraizer Campbell.

The 34-year-old has scored more goals against the Blues than any other club. In fact his last goal, some 16 games ago going back to last season, came against the men from St Andrew's.

He's had to settle for a spot on the bench of late, as Carlos Corberan's side have won two of their last three in the Championship with Danny Ward leading the line.

After a decent enough start, Birmingham have slumped to five defeats in the past six games, and are without a goal in 453 minutes.

Lee Bowyer's side have enough threats in Troy Deeney, Scott Hogan and Lukas Jutkiewicz, they just need to give them service.

    Middlesbrough v Barnsley (19:45 BST)

Cauley Woodrow has been one of few highlights as he scores a penalty against ForestImage source, Getty Images

What a difference a summer has made for Barnsley, as the heroics of their Championship play-off campaign last season feel an awful long time ago.

Valerien Ismael's exit to West Brom, taking skipper Alex Mowatt with him, Conor Chaplin's move to Ipswich plus the return of loanee goal-getter Daryl Dike to Orlando, has hit them hard.

One win in 12 and just seven goals have been key to their struggles, with Markus Schopp unable to get the Tykes into the same relentless groove that Ismael instilled in 2020-21.

Their hosts tonight, Middlesbrough, are faring slightly better amidst a defensive injury crisis of late.

Lee Peltier returns from suspension, but it was Sol Bamba and a host of stand-ins last time out against Peterborough to shore up the defensive ranks.

The Teessiders will be looking to some more magic from Argentina maverick Martin Payero after his weekend's best game in red since joining.

  17. Baggies look to continue bounce backpublished at 19:37 British Summer Time 20 October 2021

Swansea City v West Brom (19:45 BST)

    IsmaelImage source, PA Media

West Brom head to Swansea this evening after a return to winning ways against Birmingham City on Friday.

Valerien Ismael's side can move to within three points of leaders Bournemouth with another victory but the Swans will be buoyant having dispatched local rivals Cardiff 3-0 on Sunday.

Russell Martin will be hoping that kick-starts some consistency for a team who have won just twice in their past eight league games.

The Baggies, without midfield dynamo Alex Mowatt tonight through injury, are also looking to secure a first league away win double in south Wales since 1946-47 season having already won at Cardiff this campaign.

That man Mowatt produced a pretty decent strike too that night.

Fulham return to Craven Cottage for the second time in five days this evening as they take on out-of-form Cardiff City.

Aleksandar Mitrovic has 12 goals in as many Championship appearances this campaign, including a brace in Saturday's defeat of neighbours QPR.

Marco Silva's side will be hoping to keep pace with Bournemouth and West Brom as an under-pressure Mick McCarthy needs a response after his charges were humbly beaten 3-0 by rivals Swansea on Sunday.

They start the evening just three points above the bottom three.

Bournemouth extend lead to six points

    SolankeImage source, PA Media

There were five Championship matches on Tuesday evening.

Leaders Bournemouth maintained their unbeaten run, winning 1-0 at Stoke City thanks to Dominic Solanke's second-half finish.

That result also extended their lead to six points over West Brom.

Defeat for the Potters and a 1-0 win for QPR against Blackburn saw Rangers climb to fifth while Derby and Luton shared four goals in an entertaining 2-2 draw at Pride Park.

Meanwhile, it was a case of late winners at both Bristol City and Sheffield United as visitors Nottingham Forest and Millwall respectively came away with 2-1 victories.

Forest scored twice in injury time courtesy of a brace from Lyle Taylor, the first from the spot and the second within a minute from close range.

Jake Cooper's thunder strike saw Millwall take all three points at Bramall Lane.

You can read more on those results and other news across the division on our Championship page.
