    Cadiz 0-0 Barcelona

    The lull before the storm?

The last five minutes would have been a good time to pop out and grab a brew.

Barca are passing the ball around and Cadiz are just sitting tight at the back. Not exactly a thriller - but you get the feeling the drama is all still to come.

Phil Jenkins: No sympathy for Barcelona and Real Madrid. Thrown money around for years, buying players and barely playing them, packing them off for buttons. Wasting years of players careers and paying silly money in wages has finally caught up.

  3. Postpublished at 21:15 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Cadiz 0-0 Barcelona

The pattern of the game is set.

Barcelona are dominating possession but without really creating too much in front of goal. Cadiz, on the other hand, are more than happy to let their visitors have the ball, before trying to hit on the break.

First goal here could prove crucial.

    Cadiz 0-0 Barcelona

    Nervy times for Barcelona.

Ruben Sobrino drives into the box with the ball as he attempts to make space to get a shot in. Gerard Pique dives into the tackle - no margin for error - and he gets the ball.

Good defending in the end, but he could not afford to get that wrong...

He may only be 17 - and just turned 17 at that - but Gavi looks like some footballer.

The Barca midfielder whips in a delicious-looking cross from the left but it is glanced away from the waiting Luuk de Jong.

The subsequent corner comes to nothing.

    Cadiz 0-0 Barcelona

It really is some atmosphere in the Nuevo Mirandilla tonight... the Cadiz fans are up for this.

And they are up on their feet as a free-kick is swung in from the right, but Barca scramble clear.

    Cadiz 0-0 Barcelona

    That's better from Barca.

Sergino Dest gets the ball from Memphis Depay on the left, twists and turns just inside the penalty area, before blazing over from a tight angle.

Dest is going to be a key man for the visitors this evening.

    Cadiz 0-0 Barcelona

A noisy home crowd is very much behind Cadiz this evening.

The yellows come into the match in confident mood, having finally got their first win of the season last time out.

And the hosts have started well - Barca are not going to get a minute on the ball tonight.

  10. KICK-OFFpublished at 21:00 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Cadiz 0-0 Barcelona

Cadiz proved tough opponents for Barca last season - winning at their place and drawing at the Nou Camp - and will fancy their chances of another upset.

    Away we go.

So what do you think then?

Is Koeman toast? How long will it take Barcelona to get back to where they once were? Is this the worst Barca team you have seen in your life?

  12. Long-ball Barcelona?published at 20:56 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Cadiz v Barcelona (21:00 BST)

While things are pretty hostile in the background, it's been quite ugly on the field as well.

When you think of Barcelona, you think of free-flowing, possession, football... not any more it would seem.

Koeman's men lumped in 54 crosses in their last-gasp draw against Granada earlier this week - and the whistles from the Nou Camp crowd showed their feelings about the more direct style.

Koeman warned afterwards, fans should not 'expect miracles' from his very young squad but, unless they start winning soon, you get the feeling it might not be his problem for much longer.

    Cadiz v Barcelona (21:00 BST)

Guillem Balague has just described Ronald Koeman as a 'dead man walking' in the pre match chat....

'A matter of when not if', he says. You really can't help but feel for the Barca boss right now.

  14. 'A toxic battle'published at 20:52 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Cadiz v Barcelona (21:00 BST)

So, what exactly is going on at Barcelona?

Lionel Messi's shock summer exit left us in no doubt about the perilous state of their finances.

But, as the club start what could be a lengthy rebuild, the relationship between president Joan Laporta and boss Ronald Koeman doesn't seem the most conduicive to success on the pitch - far from it.

Guillem Balague's column on the 'toxic battle ripping apart a European giant' sums things up nicely. You should definitely give that read here.

  15. Team Newspublished at 20:49 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Cadiz v Barcelona (21:00 BST)

The teams are out and 17-year-old midfielder Gavi makes his first start for the visitors.

Gerard Pique returns to the starting lineup for Barca - presumably not as the emergency striker he played as in a second-half cameo last time out.

Luuk de Jong also starts for the first time in La Liga - another night of aerial bombardment?

    Cadiz v Barcelona (21:00 BST)

Hello and welcome to the latest installment of the 'Barcelona crisis'.

As pressure continues to grow on boss Ronald Koeman, anything but a win at struggling Cadiz is unthinkable... isn't it?

It's not long until we find out, kick-off comes in the next 10 minutes. Buckle up, it could be a bumpy ride.

  17. Crisis time at Barcelona?published at 20:35 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    Cadiz v Barcelona (21:00 BST)

Who would be a Barcelona fan at the moment? And it's not often we get to say that....

From being absolutely skint, to a 'toxic' power struggle between the president and manager, to playing an ugly long-ball game with their hero now plying his trade in another country.

The start of this season has not been exactly enjoyable for the Barca faithful. Now they know how the majority of football fans feel.....
