  1. 'Exceptional header'published at 18:19 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Sparta Prague 1-0 Rangers

    Richard Foster
Former Rangers defender on BBC Scotland

    Quote Message

It's an exceptional header. I don't even know if you can do anything defensively there because of the speed of the ball and the height that he jumps

  2. 'No right' to score thatpublished at 18:18 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Sparta Prague 1-0 Rangers

    Mark Hateley
    Former Rangers striker on Sportsound

    Quote Message

It's a great header. He's got no right to get that trajectory on it from there. An incredible finish

  3. goal

GOAL Sparta Prague 1-0 Rangerspublished at 29mins

    David Hancko

Sparta take the lead - thanks for goal-line technology ... and David Hancko.

The big centre-back rises to meet a corner and his header across the face of goal is scooped clear by goalkeeper Allan McGregor after it strikes the inside of the far post.

However, replays confirm that the ball had crossed the line and the danger at set-pieces Sparta showed domestically at the weekend strikes again.

  4. GOOD SAVE!published at 24mins

    Sparta Prague 0-0 Rangers

I was just about to say that the game has dipped into a bit of a lull and Rangers' makeshift defence has coped well so far.

However, Sparta striker Martin Minchev bursts past Calvin Bassey and his low drive is denied by the outstretched leg of goalkeeper Allan McGregor.

    Sparta Prague 0-0 Rangers

    Richard Foster
Former Rangers defender on BBC Scotland

    Quote Message

Sparta don't look particularly comfortable when Rangers run at them in the box. All it takes is a defender diving in and poorly-timing it to give away a penalty. At the moment, they can't get out their own half

  6. Postpublished at 15mins

    Sparta Prague 0-0 Rangers

Good spell for Rangers as Joe Aribo's header from a Borna Barisic cross is deflected clear from in front of goal and, from the resulting corner, big centre-half Leon Balogun rises first but heads wide.

  7. Sakala gives 'different dimension'published at 18:01 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Sparta Prague 0-0 Rangers

    Charlie Adam
Former Rangers midfielder on BBC Radio Scotland

    Quote Message

Sakala's got that turn off pace to burn away from the defender that he showed there. Morelos probably doesn't have that. It can give you a different dimension away from home too

  8. Postpublished at 12mins

    Sparta Prague 0-0 Rangers

First sight of goal for Fashion Sakala as he races behind the home defence following a pass from Joe Aribo.

However, the Rangers striker's low drive is straight at goalkeeper Florin Nita.

  9. 'Amazing reflexes'published at 17:58 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Sparta Prague 0-0 Rangers

    Mark Hateley
    Former Rangers striker on Sportsound

    Quote Message

It's a fantastic save from McGregor. His reflexes are amazing. He sees it all happening and he reacts. He probably knew that was coming before the defenders did

  10. GREAT SAVE!published at 9mins

    Sparta Prague 0-0 Rangers

Allan McGregor is forced into the first save of the game - and it needs to be a good one to prevent the home side taking the lead.

The Rangers defenders are slipping and sliding as if on ice as Jakub Pesek picks up the ball just inside the visiting penalty box and the Czech Republic winger's snap shot is turned over the bar from the flying goalkeeper.

  11. 'Fluid front three for Rangers'published at 17:55 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Sparta Prague 0-0 Rangers

    Mark Hateley
    Former Rangers striker on Sportsound

    Quote Message

It will be a fluid front three for Rangers. They've played very direct so far and haven't been hanging about in the midfield. Rangers are really highly-pressed up the pitch

  12. Postpublished at 6mins

    Sparta Prague 0-0 Rangers

The first threat of the game comes from Rangers and home goalkeeper Florin Nita has to make a hasty clearance inside his own six-yard box as striker Fashion Sakala looks to pounce.

Sparta are determined to play out from the back and Rangers' high press has them in a bit of trouble.

  13. Postpublished at 3mins

    Sparta Prague 0-0 Rangers

It sounds more like a hockey international than a football match thanks to the shrill cries of the young home fans.

A lively start from both sides, but so far no goal threat from either.

  14. KICK-OFFpublished at 17:45 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Sparta Prague 0-0 Rangers

How will Rangers fare in their first European tie under Steven Gerrard without defensive talisman Connor Goldson?

We're about to find out...we're under way in Prague after Rangers take the knee and Sparta don't.

  17. Gerrard balancing act ahead of Hibs gamepublished at 17:43 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Sparta Prague v Rangers (17:45)

Speaking to Rangers TV, Steven Gerrard has been talking about the absence of centre-half Connor Goldson, who is replaced with Calvin Bassey.

“Obviously, we were thrown a bit of a curveball with Connor missing out, but it’s an opportunity for Calvin to step in," Rangers' manager says.

"It’s the reason we brought Calvin in. We knew he could fill two positions for us - left-back and left centre back - so I’m really looking forward to seeing how he does in there.

“We’ve got a huge game at the weekend, a top-of-the-table clash, so we’re trying to get the balance right for both games

“This is something we’ve been trying to build for three years, to have two players in each position that are all capable of playing in this system, doing their job and their role and responsibility that we give them."

  19. History favours Spartapublished at 17:36 British Summer Time 30 September 2021

    Sparta Prague v Rangers (17:45)

Rangers and Sparta have met once before in European competition and it was the Czechs who came out on top, progressing on away goals despite a 2-1 defeat in Glasgow.

Since that European Cup second-leg defeat in October 1991, Sparta are unbeaten in six games against Scottish opponents, winning five of them and drawing the other.

They impressed against Celtic last season, beating Rangers' city rivals 4-1 both home and away in their Europa League group but still failing to progress to the knockout stage.

Rangers, meanwhile, have lost all four ties against teams from the Czech Republic or the former Czechoslovakia, including that infamous defeat by Slavia in the last 16 last season.

    Sparta Prague v Rangers (17:45)

With last season's top scorer Lukas Julis, who scored five goals against Celtic in the Europa League group stages last season, ruled out with a groin injury, Sparta boss Pavel Vrba hands a start to 20-year-old Martin Minchev.

The Bulgarian takes the place of the more experienced Vaclav Drchal in th eonly change from the side that thumped Zlin 5-2 at the weekend.
