It is goodbye from us after another difficult day at the office for Mick McCarthy.

Defeat number eight in a row leaves the Cardiff City manager's future in serious doubt, but it's a different story for ex-Bluebirds boss Neil Warnock after Middlesbrough's third straight win.

There is plenty for EFL action still to come today which you can follow online here.

Middlesbrough manager Neil Warnock told Sky Sports: "We won that game because of the 10 minutes after half-time when we put bodies on the line and we were under the cosh.

"We created a lot of chances, Crooks and Duncan just had the goalkeeper to beat, but we don't make it easy on ourselves.

"I was pleased for Sol [Bamba] too, three games in a week at his age, and Lee Peltier too.

"Credit to them, they're brilliant on and off the field and they're a credit to manage.

"I was seething that they didn't have a red card [for Marlon Pack's challenge], they're the ones you have to get out of the game and McGuinness could have had one too.

"But I'm glad we've got 11 lads intact and got the three points."

  3. 'If I'm getting sacked I wanted to have a go'published at 14:51 British Summer Time 23 October 2021

    FT: Cardiff City 0-2 Middlesbrough

Cardiff City manager Mick McCarthy told Sky Sports: "We didn't start well, it was a bitty game but the penalty has gone against us.

"But it's given, we had a go after half-time and had our chances but then we've conceded another poor goal.

"If anyone thinks that I send the players out to be benign and static, it's never been the case with my teams.

"If I'm getting sacked in the morning I wanted to go out and have a go at it, at least I can think that if I am.

"I keep saying it, but until I'm told differently I'll keep doing my job.

"It's lousy, I don't like losing one and we've lost eight on the bounce."

Everyone's going to be looking at Mick McCarthy and blaming him for the results, but are these players good enough as well?

They're the ones who cross the line, it's down to them to show heart.

The fans pay a lot of money to watch, they make big sacrifices, they don't go on holidays, they don't go out, they pay their money to support their team and all they ask for is a team that works hard and a club they can see trying to find a way to be successful.

They haven't got any of that, and that's what hurts ex-players like myself.

There is no way out of this unless Cardiff City have somebody on board that can plan.

Middlesbrough's former Cardiff defender Sol Bamba told Sky Sports: "The whole club here looked after me for nearly six years, but I came here to do a job.

"There are mixed feelings but I am happy to get three points.

"We have got a great dressing room and that's the key."

This is the stark reality, Cardiff could find themselves inside the relegation places by the end of the afternoon if Hull, the side directly below them, win away at Luton.

It is grim reading for Cardiff fans, it will hurt.

The Warnock way has probably sent Mick McCarthy on his way.

The fans are in no doubt the Cardiff manager has to go after a club record eight successive league defeats.

It was an abject display for most of this game and Middlesbrough won't have many an easier three points this season.

It takes a long time to sort out managerial matters unless of course - and I wouldn't be surprised if they've done this - Cardiff have already been sounding out people.

It looks beyond a coincidence to me that Chris Wilder turns up at Fulham on a Wednesday night.

Middlesbrough are celebrating a third successive Championship win - and only a second away from home this season - as Neil Warnock enjoys his trip to back south Wales.

Andraz Sporar put Boro ahead with a debatable penalty before Martin Payero sealed the points.

    What now for Mick McCarthy?

After eight straight defeats, this may well be the end of the line for the Cardiff boss.

Mehmet Dalman is stood up, still watching, but you wouldn't be surprised if the hotline to Malaysia is being used in the wake of this.

I've already seen fans starting to leave, not adding to the insult by waving as they go, but you just feel that's what they've been tempted to do.
