Jonathan Avis: Scrap VAR, horrendous decision. It was a penalty all day long. It got scrapped. Incorrect decision. Should have stayed as a pen. They slowed the replay down so much and it takes away the aggressive nature of the foul. Horrendous. UEFA just scrap VAR.

Seeing the penalty decision again, the ball had been played in to Noelle Maritz in the penalty area but she had miskicked the ball and lost possession seconds before Magdalena Eriksson's challenge.

However, the referee decided the contact was not as severe as she first thought and we continue at 0-0

In fast motion it looks rather rash there.

She looks to have given the referee an easy decision.

On reflection though it's a lot closer.

Sweden get a free-kick in a dangerous position 30 yards out and Real Madrid's Kosovare Asllani floats in a cross and it finds Barcelona's Fridolina Rolfo free in the box but she can't direct her header goalwards.

But Swiss boss Nils Nielsen will not be happy at the amount of space Rolfo had in the middle of the penalty area.

It's going to be a really good battle between the two sides.

They both know they have to put on a good show today to give themselves a good chance in this competition.

  16. Contrasting records at the Eurospublished at 16:53 British Summer Time 13 July 2022

    Sweden v Switzerland (17:00 BST)

Sweden made history by becoming the first ever women's European champions as they won the inaugural tournament in 1984, beating England 4-3 on penalties after the two-legged final had ended 1-1.

The second leg of that final took place at Luton Town's Kenilworth Road stadium with only 2,567 fans in attendance.

Since then, Sweden have lost in the final on three occasions - 1987, 1995 and 2001 - and also gone out in the semi-finals four times - 1989, 1997, 2005 and 2013.

Switzerland, by contrast, did not qualify for all of the first 11 tournaments and went out at the group stage in the Netherlands five years ago.
