Norwich manager Dean Smith, speaking to BBC Match of the Day: "We’re frustrated. I’d have preferred Teemu to go straight through and score the goal. We had to change our game plan a little bit and they were always going to try and kill the game at every opportunity.

"We knew we were going to have the lion’s share of possession. We went more with a diamond to get the full-backs a little bit higher, but the quality of our runs wasn’t good enough.

"They got a dubious penalty which lifted the crowd and gave them something to hold on to."

On Newcastle's penalty: "We’ve taken all responsibility away from the on-pitch official. He didn’t feel it was unnatural. If it takes him 90 seconds to see whether it’s close enough – it’s pathetic for me.

"We’ve managed to go three unbeaten, but we feel we’ve lost two points here today, given the circumstances."

Corr. A striker's dream, but no one gambles on it. Raphinha zips a ball across the face of goal and it was just begging someone to get a touch on it.

What a chance for Crystal Palace.

It's a great break from the visitors and Conor Gallagher's effort is closed down, but he then hooks it up to the back post for Christian Benteke to attack six yards out - and he heads wide!

"They worked very hard. They made it hard for us after the red card. It was a nice goal, but we're disappointed not to win.

"It’s been a great time with [Dean Smith]. We haven’t lost yet. We’re learning from him and he’s learning about us. It’s a big chance – we just have to take it."

Nice whip on the delivery by Conor Gallagher but no Palace player can get a clean header on it.

Leeds hack it out of danger.

Newcastle United

Newcastle midfielder Jonjo Shelvey: "It's a missed opportunity. We defended brilliantly throughout. Everyone to a man worked their socks off today. It's unfortunate the red card early doors gave us a mountain to climb.

"We felt we deserved the three points.

"I'm not going to criticise Ciaran [Clark]. If he doesn't bring him [Teemu Pukki] down he goes through and scores. He's probably earned us a point in the end.

"When you play against 11 men with 10 it's really hard. Everyone stepped up to the plate. We're confident we can get out of the situation we're in. We've got a huge game Saturday. We'll recover and go again.

"I'm not really concerned because I know what we have in the dressing room. We just have to keep believing and stick together. Everyone is buzzing round the place. We'll keep fighting for these fans."

Good feet from Wilfried Zaha and he's brought down by Stuart Dallas to the right of the Leeds box - the defender goes into the book and Crystal Palace have a free-kick in a dangerous area.

Which way is Raphinha going to go next? I'm not sure even he knows, never mind Tyrick Mitchell. The Leeds man wriggles inside off the right but there's no way through the Crystal Palace defence and the hosts have to start over.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe to Amazon: "We had a mountain to climb so early in the game. We started brightly 11 v 11. The sending-off has a huge bearing on the match.

"Full credit to the players for how they responded. There were some great individual performances.

"I'm so disappointed for everyone connected with the club we couldn't get over the line.

"Defensive resilience [was the best thing]. 11 v 10 for 80 minutes. We defended really well. Norwich made it difficult for us but our midfield coped.

"If we deliver the mentality we showed with 10 men v 11 on a regular basis, we'll win games. No doubt about that.

"The players have had some hard knocks this season and another one tonight with the red card.

"We just have to dust ourselves down, reflect on tonight and then go to Burnley."

Leeds are really piling on the pressure just like they did in the opening period of the first half. Vieira has been animated in his technical area trying to get his players going.

How about that! Wilfried Zaha looks to dribble beyond Stuart Dallas, who is stumbling and so appears to try and tackle the Crystal Palace forward with his head on the way down.

Zaha is not happy, and Dallas looks in some discomfort.

It opens up for Adam Forshaw about 30 yards from goal and the midfielder is buoyed by the rise in crowd volume. He fires comfortably over. Name in lights, and all that.

Raphinha nonchalantly pings a cross-field ball from the right to the toes of Dan James on the left. He loves that one. James can't find a route through the Palace defence, mind.

It's been a game slim on clear chances.

Raphinha is Leeds' playmaker, ball winner, box-to-box midfielder at the moment - he wins the ball back and starts an attack, it breaks to Kalvin Phillips on the edge of the box but his curling effort is blocked. There were about three cries for handball in that move.

Wilfried Zaha tries to take on Raphinha, who hurts himself while attempting the tackle. Crystal Palace play on inside the Leeds box and the home fans are furious. The attack comes to nothing, to their relief.
