  1. 'Conte's statement interesting'published at 12:46 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2021

    BBC Radio 5 Live

BBC Sport's Simon Stone has been on BBC Radio 5 Live speaking on the appointment of Antonio Conte as Tottenham manager.

"Antonio Conte has signed up until June 2023, so that's about 20 months with the option of an extension to that if everybody is in agreement.

"Tottenham have said that a further announcement on Conte's backroom staff will be made in due course but there is some interesting quotes in the statement that relate back to conversations that Conte had with the Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy during the summer when when Tottenham tried to get Conte to Tottenham as Jose Mourinho's replacement, it didn't happen.

"Conte has said: that last summer our union did not happen because the end of my relationship with Inter Milan was still too recent and emotionally too involved with the end of the season so I felt it wasn't the right time to return to coaching.

"But the contagious enthusiasm and determination of Daniel Levy in wanting to entrust me with this task had already hit the mark. Now that the opportunity has returned, I have chosen to take it with great conviction."

  2. 'A clear mind'published at 12:40 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2021

    Tony Pulis
Former Stoke and West Brom manager on The Sports Desk

I like him. I managed against him when he was at Chelsea and we had some food together. They actually won the league at West Brom when I was there.

He’s a fantastic fella, I’ve spoken to him since he’s been in Italy. He’s very organised, very well set-up and he’s got a clear mind on having a direction of how to run a football club.

  4. 'His track record speaks for itself'published at 12:32 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2021

    Tottenham Hotspur

Speaking about Antonio Conte's appointment, Tottenham's managing director of football Fabio Paratici said: "We are delighted to welcome Antonio to the club. His track record speaks for itself, with vast experience and trophies in both Italy and England.

"I know first-hand the qualities Antonio can bring to us, having worked with him at Juventus, and look forward to seeing his work with our talented group of players."

  5. Pep and Jurgen incoming...published at 12:23 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2021

We'll also be hearing from Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp shortly.

Both sides are back in Champions League action on Wednesday.

    Stay tuned for updates...

  6. Conte's returnpublished at 12:17 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2021

    Simon Stone
    BBC Sport

Antonio Conte adds to the list of high-profile coaches now working in the Premier League.

His duels with Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel in particular will be fascinating.

The speed with which this deal was done underlines the commitment managing director Fabio Paratici has to this working out and whilst the option of an extension to Conte's 18-month contract was expected, it does suggest an element of long-term planning.

In Premier League terms, the ride starts at Everton on Sunday - but before that, Tottenham have a European Conference League game with Vitesse on Thursday.

  7. 'Already hit the mark'published at 12:12 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2021

    Tottenham Hotspur

More now from new Spurs boss Antonio Conte...

"Last summer our union did not happen because the end of my relationship with Inter was still too recent and emotionally too involved with the end of the season, so I felt that it wasn’t yet the right time to return to coaching," said Conte.

"But the contagious enthusiasm and determination of Daniel Levy in wanting to entrust me with this task had already hit the mark.

"Now that the opportunity has returned, I have chosen to take it with great conviction."

  8. 'A Premier League club that has the ambition to be a protagonist again'published at 12:07 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2021

    Tottenham Hotspur

Speaking to Tottenham's official website, Antonio Conte said: "I am extremely happy to return to coaching, and to do so at a Premier League club that has the ambition to be a protagonist again.

"Tottenham Hotspur has state-of-the-art facilities and one of the best stadiums in the world.

"I can't wait to start working to convey to the team and the fans the passion, mentality and determination that have always distinguished me, as a player and as a coach."

    It's official...

Antonio Conte has just been announced as the new Tottenham manager.

The former Chelsea boss replaces Nuno Espirito Santo, who was sacked on Monday.

He has signed a contract until the summer of 2023.

Atalanta v Man Utd (20:00 GMT)

Manchester United have a couple of players to assess before Tuesday's Champions League game at Atalanta, says boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

The United boss did not identify the players but did not appear too concerned about their chances.

Paul Pogba, who is currently serving a domestic ban for his red card against Liverpool, is likely to feature.

"We were looking all right in the training session this morning. Everyone was on there," said Solskjaer.

Jack Tanner: Short term Eddie Howe is a better choice for Newcastle than Unai Emery.

MonsieurSharp: Has to be Unai Emery to NUFC - will make them hard to beat in the short to medium term and can be part of the club rebuild envisaged by the new owners in the longer term. Would be a fantastic appointment.

    Malmo v Chelsea (17:45 GMT)

Premier League leaders Chelsea will be without Mason Mount for Tuesday's trip to Malmo in the Champions League.

The midfielder is absent because of illness and joins injured trio Timo Werner, Romelu Lukaku and Mateo Kovacic in being unavailable for the game.

However Christian Pulisic is fit again and travelled with the squad to Sweden after recovering from an ankle injury.

"Mason does not really feel better," said Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.

Another big time manager at Spurs. Problem is Spurs are not a big time club. Pep Guardiola wouldn't get that squad in the top 6 and neither will Antonio Conte. Club needs a total rebuild on the playing side from top to bottom, and managers like Conte are not Interested in doing that. Another short term expensive mistake for me.

  15. Emery leading candidate for Newcastle jobpublished at 11:25 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2021

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport

Villarreal head coach Unai Emery is the leading candidate to take over as Newcastle manager.

The new owners hope that they can appoint the former Arsenal boss before Saturday's game against Brighton.

But there is still work to be done on a deal with the 49-year-old, who is contracted to the Spanish club until 2023 and won the Europa League with them last season.

Newcastle has also held talks with former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe and former Roma manager Paulo Fonseca.

Emery will lead Villarreal against Young Boys in Champions League Group F on Tuesday evening, and in Monday's pre-match press conference said he did not know anything about links with Newcastle.

A little switch to the international scene now.

He's currently on 99 caps for Wales but Gareth Bale could win his 100th after being named in the squad for World Cup qualifiers against Belarus and Belgium.

The Real Madrid forward missed Wales' October qualifiers because of hamstring tear.

As a spurs fan I am delighted to see Conte. He has given Daniel Levy a wish list which I think should be acted on during the next window. I know Conte isn't happy to bring through young players such as Skipp but it's up to them to prove they are good enough.

So, Unai Emery and Eddie Howe seem to be leading the race to become the new Newcastle boss.

But who do you think would do a better job out of the two, Newcastle fans who would you prefer?

Or is it a case of neither and you'd rather have former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca in charge?

  20. Emery and Howe in contention for Newcastle jobpublished at 10:42 Greenwich Mean Time 2 November 2021

    Alistair Magowan
    BBC Sport

Villarreal head coach Unai Emery and former Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe are in contention to become Newcastle's new manager.

Emery, 49, won the Europa League with Villarreal last season and has a contract until 2023, having been sacked by Arsenal in November 2019.

Howe, 43, has been a free agent since he left Bournemouth by mutual consent in August 2020 following the club's relegation from the Premier League.

Newcastle's new owners are keen to make an appointment with the club winless this season, second bottom of the Premier League table and six points from safety.

They have also spoken to former Roma boss Paulo Fonseca as they seek to appoint a permanent replacement for Steve Bruce.

Interim boss Graeme Jones has taken charge of the team for the last two matches, which ended in a 1-1 draw at Crystal Palace and a 3-0 home defeat by Chelsea.
