Plenty of huff and puff in the first half here, but not loads of quality. Feels like one mistake, and one goal, could win it.

Still, the sun setting over St James' Park is throwing a nice shade of pink across the sky. Lovely stuff.

  2. KICK-OFFpublished at 16:01 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2022

    Norwich 2-0 Everton

We're back under way at Carrow Road. No changes.

    HT: Wolves 1-0 Southampton

    John Acres
BBC 5 Live reporter at Molineux

Wolves lead but I don't think it's a penalty. There are three challenges in the box and I think a Southampton player wins the ball each time.

The on-field decision was no penalty, VAR tells the referee to go and have a look at his own decision and he overrides it. The penalty was put away beautifully by Raul Jimenez.

Everton assistant Duncan Ferguson strides out to take a seat on the away bench. Probably didn't need to say a word in the dressing room. Just stood there, those eyes swimming with menace.

This is how the bottom of the table looks as things stand. Norwich have jumped up, Burnley - after their game was postponed - move to the foot.

  6. 'Miserable from Everton'published at 15:57 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2022

    HT: Norwich 2-0 Everton

    John Southall
BBC Radio 5 Live at Carrow Road

November 30 was the last league goal for Norwich before this. It's an eight hour + roundtrip for Everton fans this, so far it has been miserable once again from their side. Demarai Gray has been their one shining light.

This could be very damaging for Rafael Benitez, he needs to use his bench, he needs a reaction from his side.

    This from Gracenote...

Norwich have never dropped points in a Premier League match when they were leading by at least two goals at half-time (W12-D0-L0). The last time the Canaries dropped points in a top flight match when leading by two goals at half-time was on 4 November 1989 away at Arsenal (2-0 at half-time, 4-3 loss).

I've enjoyed the game so far, I think Claudio Ranieri will be the happier manager.

More quality's required in the final third from Newcastle to win this game, but they've got to be careful as Watford look good on the counter-attack.

It's goalless but this is tense. Watford look dangerous on the break. Newcastle are dominating and hit the crossbar through Joelinton but have still lacked quality. All to play for!

    HT: Norwich 2-0 Everton

We all know how football works and who gets the blame when things go so badly wrong. After such a shambolic first half and the ill will that currently exists within the Everton fanbase, would it be unfair or unreasonable to suggest the next 45 minutes could be make or break for Rafa Benitez?

  11. 'Pedro can do more'published at 15:50 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2022

    HT: Newcastle 0-0 Watford

    Neil Lennon
Former Celtic midfielder on BBC Radio 5 Live

He's a mercurial talent, Joao Pedro, but I'd need to give him a good shake at half time because I'd want more out of him.

There's no doubt he's got talent, no doubt he's a danger, but he's playing on the periphery of the game. So's Allan Saint-Maximin for Newcastle.

  14. Postpublished at 15:48 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2022

Jose Sa denies Mohammed Salisu again, this time tipping his effort over the bar to give Southampton their ninth corner of the game. Once again, however, the set piece is dealt with.

  17. HALF-TIMEpublished at 15:47 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2022

    Norwich 2-0 Everton

Norwich's best half of the campaign, and boy did they need it. It gives them hope. Slim, beautiful hope.

Nothing of the sort for Everton. They are pure, undistilled pessimism.

Luminol (15:37), no one would argue that the squad doesn't need improving, but Benitez is making very poor use of what is available to him. He's not THE only problem, but it does seem increasingly obvious that he is A problem.

    Wolves 1-0 Southampton

Oriol Romeu is in space some 25 yards from goal and decides to have a go. His shot is on target but Jose Sa has it covered all the way.

Into four minutes of stoppage time.

  20. Postpublished at 15:46 Greenwich Mean Time 15 January 2022

    Newcastle 0-0 Watford

    Alistair Magowan
BBC Sport at St James' Park

It's getting a bit lively inside St James' Park as the home fans turn their attentions on Emmanuel Dennis for what they think is an over-exaggeration of his injury.

Still it makes a change from Allan Saint-Maximin. He's been getting a bit of stick this half for giving the ball away.

Can I also just mention the midfield battle between Joelinton and Moussa Sissoko? Class. The Brazilian has the upper hand so far.
