No doubt it was a difficult job, not least because the Liverpool connection left him no margin for error with the fans once things went wrong, but not sure Benitez can have any complaints after one win in 13 league games. It's not the best squad in the league but it's nowhere near the worst either

Liverpool 1-0 Brentford
Sergi Canos plays it forward and it's flicked on by Ivan Toney. Brentford find space on the right but Alisson gets to Shandon Baptiste's cross first.

Glenn Dolby: Benitez had it coming although it's not all his fault. Millions of pounds worth of players he didn't sign, regardless he just couldn't get them to play of him and the fans never wanted him. Doomed from the start.
AJ Vergette: Everton turning into a trigger happy, chequebook institution who throw money around and then go up in arms at the main man in the dugout when he hasn’t given them what they want in less than a year.
Liverpool 1-0 Brentford
Nice play from Curtis Jones but it rolls away from him in the box. Liverpool have started the second half brightly.
Pablo Fornals (51 mins)
But the equaliser arrives soon after!
Michail Antonio prods the ball on for Pablo Fornals, who gets in behind Luke Ayling, cuts along the middle of the box before placing a low effort into the back of the net.
All square, all to play for.
West Ham 1-2 Leeds
Michail Antonio tries to force his way through the Leeds defence after a poor clearance by Luke Ayling. He can't get the shot away but Declan Rice is behind him but lashes the loose ball over.

Wayne Rooney will get a mention. It is up to Wayne where he feels he is at, if he was offered the job. It would be very difficult to turn down - but from a club and fans' point of view, is he experienced enough? He would get the respect of the fans and the players.
The choice I look at and Brighton fans won’t want me to say... is Graham Potter. Everton fans want open and expansive football and you would get that with him.
He is very good at man-management and he is calm. This appointment has to be the right one. I don’t think Duncan Ferguson is the right choice. They need to look elsewhere.
Liverpool 1-0 Brentford
Vitaly Janelt gets it half-clear for Brentford but it's straight to Fabinho. He chests it and hits it first time. It's down the middle and pretty comfortable for Alvaro Fernandez.
Liverpool 1-0 Brentford
Early change for Brentford. Rico Henry is off. Sergi Canos is on.
Perhaps a little niggle for Henry which he couldn't run off at the start of this second half?
West Ham 1-2 Leeds
Leeds finished the first half on the front foot and they make a positive start to the second as Raphinha flicks the ball through, looking for Dan James but he can't get to the ball before the West Ham defence.
Liverpool 1-0 Brentford
Jordan Henderson goes around two players on the right and curls it in towards the near post.
Roberto Firmino can't get there in time before the keeper gathers it in.

He was on a hiding to nothing. The only way he was going to do something was if he finished above Liverpool in the league.
That was the be-all and end-all of it.
West Ham 1-2 Leeds
Jack Harrison has scored twice in a league match for Leeds United for the first time, in what is his 136th league appearance for the club.

Back under way at the London Stadium. Will the second half match the first in the entertainment stakes?

Not surprised, I think it has been coming. Everton fans have voiced their opinions for a large part of the season.
It was probably an appointment that never really fitted. I was surprised when he went for the job and surprised that [chairman] Farhad Moshiri thought the fans would accept it.
There has not been a real style or identity of how they would want to play. Everyone thought he would come in and make them hard to beat, if anything, they look very easy to beat.

Off we go again for the second half at Anfield.

A really good display from Brentford defensively, Liverpool were frustrated at times. There was some great last-ditch defending but they were undone right at the end and they will be hugely frustrated as they were comfortable at times.
Thomas Frank will be furious, he will be delighted with the overall display but so frustrated at that small moment.
