So close to an equaliser for Colchester!

Alan Judge clips a cross to the far post, Sylvester Jasper heads it goalwards but Jamie Jones superbly plucks it out of the top corner with his fingertips.

It's all gone a bit sloppy. BBC Radio Manchester's Bill Rice says the pitch is starting to cut up a bit too as the rain comes down in Essex.

    Colchester 0-0 Wigan

Colchester have regrouped well after falling behind but without creating a clear-cut chance to level.

At the other end, Will Keane arguably should have doubled Wigan's lead but keeper Jake Turner produces a fine low block.

  5. HALF-TIMEpublished at 13:02 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    Rochdale 0-1 Plymouth

Jordon Garrick's header separates the two sides at the break.

But Rochdale are certainly not out of this. All to play for in the second half.

    Rochdale 0-1 Plymouth

Closing in on half-time at the Crown Oil Arena.

Rochdale go the long, long way round from a free-kick to get into the Plymouth box but when Jake Beesley does work a yard of space he can only shoot straight at Michael Cooper.

  7. goal

GOAL Colchester 0-1 Wiganpublished at 12:55 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    Callum Lang (24 mins)

Colchester have had the better of this game so far - but find themselves behind.

Max Power releases Gavin Massey down the right, and his cross is tucked home at the far post by Callum Lang.

He has now scored in four successive games - and five of Wigan's last six.

  8. Postpublished at 12:51 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    Rochdale 0-1 Plymouth

Lovely football from Plymouth. Jordon Garrick and Ryan Hardie combine beautifully to release Ryan Broom, but under pressure the winger sees his stabbed effort fly wide.

  9. Postpublished at 12:49 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    Colchester 0-0 Wigan

Another chance for Colchester. This time a pull-back from the right picks out Freddie Sears, but the experienced forward fires over from 12 yards.

  10. Postpublished at 12:47 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    Rochdale 0-1 Plymouth

Rochdale looking for a route back into this tie as Abraham Odoh cuts inside and tries a curler from 25 yards.

Unfortunately his effort hits a team-mate, enabling Plymouth to scramble it clear.

  11. Postpublished at 12:46 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    Colchester 0-0 Wigan

Promising from Colchester. Noah Chilvers controls a cross from Junior Tchamadeu but his shot on the turn flies over.

The best moment so far from the home side.

  12. DISALLOWED GOALpublished at 12:43 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    Rochdale 0-1 Plymouth

Moments later Ryan Hardie does put the ball in the net for Plymouth. Unfortunately for the Scot, the offside flag cuts short any celebrations.

  13. Postpublished at 12:42 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    Rochdale 0-1 Plymouth

Ryan Broom's deliveries are causing Rochdale problems.

The winger arrows in another centre towards Ryan Hardie but Dale keeper Jay Lynch gets there first to unconvincingly punch clear.

  14. Postpublished at 12:40 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    Colchester 0-0 Wigan

Early penalty appeal by Colchester is waved away after Sylvester Jasper took a tumble in the box.

  15. 'Onus is on Wigan'published at 12:37 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    Colchester 0-0 Wigan

    Hayden MullinsImage source, Rex Features

Colchester head coach Hayden Mullins knows his side will need to be at their best if they are to upset Wigan.

The U's are 18th in League Two after an inconsistent season and meet a Latics side second in League One, but only behind leaders Rotherham on goal difference.

"We're up against a good side, we know that. We know it will be a tough game but the onus will be on them," Mullins told BBC Essex.

"I think we have earned the right to go in with a bit of confidence, really enjoy the game but attack it at the same time."

  16. Wigan strong against lower league oppositionpublished at 12:35 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    Colchester 0-0 Wigan

Colchester and Wigan meet for the first time in the FA Cup today - and play each other for the first time in any game since March 2016 in League One.

It's the first time the U's have been in the second round since that season - although they have gone on to reach the third round seven out of the last eight times they have reached this stage.

Wigan, meanwhile, have lost just one of their last 13 FA Cup ties against a side from a lower division - last season against Chorley - although they have won only one of their past seven visits to Colchester.

  19. Postpublished at 12:31 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    Rochdale 0-0 Plymouth

The first sniff of an opening for Plymouth as Joe Edwards is played into the box.

His shot skids just the wrong side of the post - but it wouldn't have counted in any case as the flag belatedly goes up.

  20. Colchester support Wigan's Wykepublished at 12:27 Greenwich Mean Time 5 December 2021

    Colchester v Wigan (12:30 GMT)

In the build-up to this afternoon's second round tie, Colchester's players have been warming up wearing shirts bearing the name and number of Wigan striker Charlie Wyke.

The former Carlisle and Sunderland forward was released from hospital this week after suffering a cardiac arrest in training, and was thankful to Latics boss Leam Richardson for saving his life by performing CPR.
