Cheers of encouragement are turning into murmurs of discontent from some sections of the Celtic support as this heads towards half-time.

Callum Davidson will be really happy with Saints' response to that opening 10 minutes.

Celtic have faded as the half has progressed.

  2. Postpublished at 36mins

    Celtic 0-0 St Johnstone

Kygo Furuhashi's low cross causes panic inside the Saints six-yard box and, when James Brown's fluffed clearance falls to Liel Abada, only a desperate Craig Bryson lunge prevents the winger finding the target and it deflects over the crossbar.

I think Callum Davidson will be very, very happy that they've survived that onslaught at the start and they've crept into the game now

However, it's straight at goalkeeper Joe Hart, who holds at the second attempt.

    Celtic 0-0 St Johnstone

However, the former Derby County midfielder's shot is well wide.

  7. Postpublished at 21mins

    Celtic 0-0 St Johnstone

On-loan Tottenham Hotspur centre-half Cameron Carter-Vickers is unable to get his effort following a corner on target as Celtic continue to create the better chances.

  8. Satisfied Saints boss?published at 17:40 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    Celtic 0-0 St Johnstone

    Nick McPheat
    BBC Sport Scotland at Hampden

Callum Davidson is barking at his St Johnstone players to press harder on Celtic.

They sense they are getting somewhere here. They've weathered the early storm and that Joe Hart incident was all a bit nervy.

  9. Hart in mouthpublished at 17:39 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    Celtic 0-0 St Johnstone

    Pat Bonner
Former Celtic goalkeeper on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

If that was in the middle of the goal, that was in the net. I tell you, Joe Hart won't do that again. He did that in a European tie and they lost a goal from it. You expect him to have learned his lesson. He's got away with one

  10. CLOSE!published at 18mins

    Celtic 0-0 St Johnstone

So close to disaster for Celtic and goalkeeper Joe Hart.

Centre-half Stephen Welsh plays a back post across the six-yard box and the former England number one delays his clearance so long that it bounces off sliding Saints forward Michael O'Halloran and rebounds just wide of the far post.

  11. Rooney key for Saints?published at 17:36 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    Celtic 0-0 St Johnstone

    Allan Preston
Ex-St Johnstone defender on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

St Johnstone's best avenue is set-plays - try and hit Shaun Rooney at that back post

  12. Postpublished at 16mins

    Celtic 0-0 St Johnstone

St Johnstone have survived Celtic's whirlwind start and are beginning to venture out of their own half.

  13. Jota throws book at Saintspublished at 17:27 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    Celtic 0-0 St Johnstone

    Nick McPheat
    BBC Sport Scotland at Hampen

Four times inside the first seven minutes Jota has shown what a threat he can be.

That 'Rabona' cross was absolutely sensational.

The Portuguese winger is well up for it. He's cheerleading the rest of his side, throwing his arms up and screaming encouragement.

  14. Postpublished at 6mins

    Celtic 0-0 St Johnstone

It's all Celtic and what another sublime touch by Jota.

The on-loan Benfica winger's fancy flick cross has Saints all sorts of trouble inside their own penalty box before it's booted clear.

  15. And Turnbull must score...published at 17:23 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    Celtic 0-0 St Johnstone

    Allan Preston
Ex-St Johnstone defender on BBC Sportsound

    Quote Message

He has to score. For a player of David Turnbull's quality, that's a poor miss

  16. CLOSE!published at 4mins

    Celtic 0-0 St Johnstone

It looks like Celtic must score as Jota races clear down the left and cuts the ball back to David Turnbull.

But somehow the Scotland midfielder scoops his side-footed effort over the crossbar from 12 yards.

  17. Postpublished at 2mins

    Celtic 0-0 St Johnstone

This will feel very much like a home game for Celtic considering there are only about 2000 Saints fans at a packed Hampden.

  19. Tribute to Celtic legendpublished at 17:17 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    Celtic v St Johnstone (17:15)

An emotional moment as Hampden is filled with a minute's applause for former Celtic great Bertie Auld.

  20. History suggests Celtic winpublished at 17:14 Greenwich Mean Time 20 November 2021

    Celtic v St Johnstone (17:15)

St Johnstone are the League Cup holders, but Celtic will be hot favourites to progress to the final this time considering they are unbeaten in 20 meetings with the Perth side since a 2-1 defeat at McDiarmid Park way back in May 2016. The Glasgow side have won the latest three.

Not only that, but Ange Postecoglou's side are unbeaten in their latest eight outings - winning seven of them - and, if you discount their loss to Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League, they have not been beaten domestically in 10.

Callum Davidson's Saints have only won once in five outings, scoring just twice during a run that included a 2-0 defeat at Celtic Park last month.
