    Lorient 1-0 PSG

Laurent Abergel saw his name up in lights when space opened up in front of him 25 yards out but he fires just over.

Houboulang Mendes was in acres of space to his right. The pass was probably the better option but it looks like the skipper pulled rank.

  2. HALF-TIMEpublished at 21:20 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2021

    Athletic Bilbao 1-2 Real Madrid

An entertaining first 45 at San Mames comes to a close.

A frankly ridiculous start brought three goals in 10 minutes - two of them absolute belters.

I have high hopes for the second half.

  3. Postpublished at 60 min

    Lorient 1-0 PSG

That's a decent stop from Keylor Navas.

Armand Lauriente tries a shot from just outside the box that deflects off Presnel Kimpembe but the PSG goalkeeper pushes it away from danger.

  4. HOW DID HE MISS?!published at 21:13 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2021

    Lorient 1-0 PSG

    That miss is even worse!

It's lovely from build-up play from Lionel Messi, controlling a ball over the top, jinking forward down the right and playing the ball with the outside of his foot to Angel di Maria at the far post, but the former Manchester United man blazes over from eight yards.

  5. CLOSE!published at 52 mins

    Lorient 1-0 PSG

    PSG should be level.

Achraf Hakimi's low cross from the right falls to Georginio Wijnaldum in space right on the penalty spot, but he scuffs his effort wide of the post.

  6. Postpublished at 36 min

    Athletic Bilbao 1-2 Real Madrid

Some wonderful managerial touchline theatrics from Bilbao boss Marcelino after Real Madrid won a free-kick near the touchline.

Head in hands, hands outstretched, skipping along his technical area, loud chuntering. The lot.

It did look a soft free-kick to be fair.

  7. KICK-OFFpublished at 21:02 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2021

    Lorient 1-0 PSG

Lorient have kicked-off the second half.

PSG have made a change at the break. Nuno Mendes, who struggled during the opening 45 minutes, is replaced by Sergio Ramos.

  8. Postpublished at 28 mins

    Athletic Bilbao 1-2 Rea Madrid

The whistles rain down from the San Mames crowd as Real Madrid have their first sustained spell of possession for a while.

Real slowly gain a modicum of control after a frantic 25 minutes.

  9. Postpublished at 23 mins

    Athletic Bilbao 1-2 Real Madrid

This is a great game played in a great atmosphere.

The home crowd certainly sense their side are well in this despite that horror start.

Unai Vencedor should do better when he collects the ball inside the penalty area but blazes over.

Carlo Ancelotti is looking a little concerned on the touchline.

  10. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:48 Greenwich Mean Time 22 December 2021

    Lorient 1-0 PSG

Half-time at the Stade du Moustoir and Lorient are good value for their lead.

They rode their luck when Icardi drilled wide and Messi hit the post, but they have been a constant threat on the counter attack.

Monconduit's goal was fantastic as well.

Is their woeful run of form about to come to an end?

GOAL - Lorient 1-0 PSGpublished at 41 mins

    Thomas Monconduit

    Hello?!

Lorient have been great tonight and their efforts have been rewarded with a fine goal.

Enzo Le Fee plays a neat lay-off to Thomas Monconduit just outside the area and he blasts the ball beyond Keylor Navas into the top corner and in off the bar!

  13. goal

GOAL - Athletic Bilbao 1-2 Real Madridpublished at 10 mins

    Oihan Sancet

Ignore that. Bilbao are right back in it - and this is an absolute belter.

Oihan Sancet collects the ball on the edge of the box and fires in a fizzing effort beyond Thibaut Courtois and in off the post.

  14. goal

GOAL - Athletic Bilbao 0-2 Real Madridpublished at 7 mins

    Karim Benzema

    And another!

This is more down to bad defending to honest. Eden Hazard is dispossessed on the edge of the box but Bilbao cannot clear and the ball lands at the feet of Karim Benzema, who drills low past Julen Agirrezabala.

    Real Madrid in control.

  15. goal

GOAL - Athletic Bilbao 0-1 Real Madridpublished at 3 mins

    Karim Benzema

    What a start!

A sweeping one-touch move sees the ball land to Karim Benzema on the left of the penalty area and he curls a first-time effort into the far corner.

    Lovely stuff.

We are off at San Mames!

  17. HITS THE POST!published at 27 mins

    Lorient 0-0 PSG

    Oooh, that's so unlucky!

Lionel Messi (he's got potential that lad) looks to guide the ball into the far corner from the edge of the box but the ball smacks off the woodwork and away!

    Lorient 0-0 PSG

I've just seen a replay of that Moffi miss again.

    It doesn't get any better.

  20. How did he miss?!published at 15 mins

    Lorient 0-0 PSG

Oh no, how on earth have Lorient not scored there?

Another rapid counter sees Terem Moffi played clean in on goal. He's six yards out and Keylor Navas is already on the floor, he HAS to score, but Moffi instead tries the clever dinked finish and the ball lobs into Navas' hands.
