GOAL - Lauren Wadepublished at 12:26 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2021

    North Macedonia 0-5 Northern Ireland

    A wonderful finish!

Rebecca Holloway's pass finds its way to Lauren Wade on the edge of the area.

She has all the time in the world to pick her spot and duly curls a left-footed beauty into the top corner.

    Wade deserves that.

  2. MISSED PENALTYpublished at 12:24 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2021

    North Macedonia 0-4 Northern Ireland

Rachel Furness steps up again...she goes the other way, but this time it's saved!

  3. PENALTYpublished at 12:23 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2021

    North Macedonia 0-4 Northern Ireland

More productive work from Lauren Wade down the right as she cuts back and finds Marissa Callaghan free in the middle.

The skipper has a look up and cracks the crossbar...and NI are then given another penalty for what looks like a push on Kirsty McGuinness as the Cliftonville forward waits for the looping ball to come down.

    This is relentless.

Rachel Furness makes it FOUR from the penalty spot.

Simone Magill is involved again as she draws a foul from Elma Shemsovikj after turning the midfielder near the by-line.

Furness sends the keeper the wrong way for her second and NI's fourth...after only 16 minutes.

Wow. That is the dream start for Northern Ireland.

Kenny Shiels called for a statement win pre-match and his players have answered the call so far.

I know you can only beat what is in front of you, but the visitors have been brilliant and clinical in the opening 15 minutes.

What a moment for Rebecca McKenna too, who has been a real gem in the Kenny Shiels' era to date and has bagged her first international goal.

It's so, so easy for Northern Ireland.

  7. goal

GOAL - Simone Magillpublished at 12:12 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2021

    North Macedonia 0-3 Northern Ireland

    Another one!

And it's a well-worked goal as Marissa Callaghan fizzes a pass into Rachel Furness on the edge of the area.

Spotting Simone Magill's run, she flicks it into the forward's path first time and NI's No.9 finishes in clinical fashion with her right foot.

Ruthless stuff from the away side here. Three up after 11 minutes.

  8. goal

GOAL - Rebecca McKennapublished at 12:10 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2021

    North Macedonia 0-2 Northern Ireland

Rebecca McKenna doesn't miss this time!

Marissa Callaghan sends Lauren Wade scampering down the right with a peach of a pass.

Wade charges forward and spots McKenna unmarked in the box. She takes a touch and hammers it high into the net.

Two goals in the opening 10 minutes for Northern Ireland.

  9. Postpublished at 12:09 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2021

    North Macedonia 0-1 Northern Ireland

    What a chance!

Demi Vance is causing all sorts of problems down the home side's right flank as she drills another inviting ball across the six-yard area.

Rebecca McKenna is there to meet it at the back post and smashes the ball first time, but it's cleared off the line by Viktorija Nedeva!

What a piece of defending to deny Northern Ireland a second.

  10. goal

GOAL - Rachel Furnesspublished at 12:04 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2021

    North Macedonia 0-1 Northern Ireland

The perfect start for Northern Ireland as Rachel Furness opens the scoring in the fourth minute!

The Liverpool midfielder gets on the end of a searching Demi Vance cross to convert from close range.

Exactly what Kenny Shiels' side needed early on.

  15. Northern Ireland 'wounded but not down'published at 11:52 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2021

North Macedonia v Northern Ireland (12:00 GMT)

Northern Ireland manager Kenny Shiels wants his players to "lay down a marker" against North Macedonia.

NI travel to Skopje with their fate still in their own hands after a battling draw in Belfast with higher-ranked Austria last month.

England and Austria play each other on Saturday and, with at least one side guaranteed to drop points, Shiels wants his players to put the pressure on the leading pair.

"We want to show the teams above us that we are wounded but not down," he said.

"We lost to one of them and drew with the other, so we are up for the fight and determined to show that."

  16. What causes Shiels' 'heartache'?published at 11:46 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2021

North Macedonia v Northern Ireland (12:00 GMT)

    Andy Gray
    BBC Sport NI

Family, unity and togetherness are phrases you will hear in almost every press conference with this team.

Yesterday, Kenny Shiels gave an insight into just how tightly-knit this group of players and staff are.

The 65-year-old says the competition for places in his starting team has given him "headache and heartache".

"You have to explain to the girls why they are not starting. You really want them to feel that they are a big part of it, and I know myself that footballers want to play," he said.

"These girls are no different. They are very determined and very together. They know I want them to feel happy and then I bring them some bad news, but it has to be done in football.

"It's the part of the job that I don't like, but I think if you treat them with respect, give them established reasons as to why they might not be starting - there are so many reasons which are not ability related."

  18. Flexible approach from Shielspublished at 11:41 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2021

North Macedonia v Northern Ireland (12:00 GMT)

    Andy Gray
    BBC Sport NI

The first thing you notice about the NI team is the front three of Lauren Wade, Kirsty McGuinness and the returning Simone Magill, who has been in red-hot form for Everton. That is a forward line who will be hungry to add to their international tallies.

Behind them, Shiels has named five defenders but it's a flexible approach which he can change up. Rebecca McKenna and Demi Vance will add width from full-back, although they could become out-and-out wingers if NI get on top early on.

Sarah McFadden, arguably NI's best player from the October games, is likely to start as one of three centre backs but has the ability to shift into midfield if Shiels opts to go with a back four, leaving Julie Nelson and Rebecca Holloway to patrol the back.

In the middle of it all, Marissa Callaghan and Rachel Furness will bring plenty of experience to proceedings in midfield in a game which NI are expected to come away with three points.

  19. Team news - two changes for NIpublished at 11:37 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2021

Simone Magill - who is fresh from scoring Everton's winner against Leicester on Sunday - is preferred to Kerry Beattie up top.

Cliftonville forward Caitlin McGuinness, however, is not named in the squad.

  20. Can NI keep the pressure on Austria?published at 11:31 Greenwich Mean Time 25 November 2021

North Macedonia v Northern Ireland (12:00 GMT)

It's been quite a year for Northern Ireland.

While it started with a chastening defeat by England at Wembley, their greatest-ever result arrived just two months later with victory over Ukraine in the Euro 2022 play-off.

And Kenny Shiels' side have duly kicked on from the euphoria of reaching their first major tournament, launching their bid to reach the 2023 World Cup with a couple of commanding wins over Luxembourg and Latvia.

Last month, England again proved too strong at Wembley but a point against Austria - having been denied a famous win thanks to Stefanie Enzinger's injury-time leveller - has left Northern Ireland with the belief that they can still finish second in the group and seal another tournament play-off spot.

Now they're in Skopje, where they hope to beat a North Macedonia side that have conceded 18 goals in their first four games.

Their campaign has been a deeply demoralising one, shipping eight and six against England and Austria before failing to build on a win over Latvia by falling to a home defeat by Luxembourg.

North Macedonia sit 83 places below Northern Ireland in the rankings, but there is no such thing as a foregone conclusion in World Cup qualifying, so today's encounter Skopje promises to be an intriguing one.
