  2. 'Spain best in the world' - Martinez Losapublished at 22:07 Greenwich Mean Time 30 November 2021

    FT: Spain 8-0 Scotland

Scotland manager Pedro Martinez Losa reflected on a difficult night for the Scots as they conceded eight in Seville.

"Spain is the best football team in the world," he told BBC Scotland.

"We are planning to progress and we are still in the race for qualification to the World Cup, so nothing changes.

"I think the players know that we are in a transitional phase, the women's game is changing all the time so we have to push and learn from the moment and we have to work to develop the best team possible for the future.

"Clearly, it was about the level of the opponent today, when other teams lose as much as they do against this team, we know it's nothing to do with the tactics and it's down to the level of the opponent."

The bigger picture is Spain are going to stroll this group, and Scotland are in charge of their own destiny in terms of a play-off berth.

They have to wait until April for their next game, a decisive trip to Ukraine, followed by the home game against Spain.

They finish against the Faroe Islands in September. Beat Ukraine and take care of the Faroes and they are play-off bound.

I didn't think we would concede as many goals as we did. It was always going to be difficult, but it's disappointing to see some of the unforced errors and chances we gave away. We now have to look at the game against Ukraine, if we take a point it would set us up nicely for the play-offs and that was always the goal.

We have to remember that errors that we made and chances we allowed are down to the quality of Spain. They have talent all the way down the pitch. The games against Spain were never going to define our campaign, we need to be able to grow and move on.

'Telt' as one might say in Scotland.

I'm not going to run through all the goals, but Scotland were torn apart by an utterly brilliant Spain side. They'll reflect on their own errors, but they were playing a side on a whole other level tonight.

Scotland's heaviest defeat for over 10 years.

I'm desperate for the full time whistle to go - I can't watch. You just wonder if Spain can get to double figures.

Erin Cuthbert, usually so influential, has barely had a kick tonight.

Substitute Esther Gonzalez is hungry for goals and just fails to find the far corner with a rasping shot.

Scotland desperate for the final whistle.

Mariona Caldentey is inches away from a hat-trick as she curls just past the post.

34-3 is the shot count at the moment. I can't remember watching a more one-sided game.

    Sumptuous.

A shot cracks off the crossbar and it falls to Mariona, who takes a touch and dinks Lee Alexander brilliantly.

Esther Gonzalez is trying to claim she got a touch on the line...

    Jennifer Hermoso

You can't keep them out for long!

Scotland cough up possession on the edge of their own box, Esther Gonzalez cuts the ball back, it takes a deflection and falls to Hermoso who shifts the ball out of her feet and sticks it away on her left foot.

    She had so much time.

Tremendous save from Alexander there and not for the first time today. The score would have been much worse if not for her.

  15. GREAT SAVE!published at 78 mins

Lee Alexander stops Spain making it 7-0. Great stop with her feet as Ona Batlle fired a shot in on the angle from about 10 yards.

Alexia Putellas does a Zidane turn away from her marker. Glorious.

Scotland get up the pitch, but Lisa Evans overhits her pass for Christie Murray. A decent opening gone.

You feel for Lee Alexander in there, It's tough for her when your team are allowing this many opportunities.

We all knew Spain are an absolutely fantastic side, but Scotland will look back at the number of errors they've made tonight in horror.

They're so narrow in defence too. Spain have enjoyed the freedom of the flanks.

Lucy Graham heads onto the roof of the net for Scotland as they force a rare corner.

    They look a bit shellshocked.
