What can I say - listen to that crowd, it's what they were waiting for.

You can question Sam Gallagher, but he was in the right place at the right time there.

It was an unbelievable shot on the turn and he did not think about it - he just knew where the goal was and he struck it so well.

    Finally a breakthrough.

Boro cleared the initial corner but not to great effect, as Tayo Edun scuffs it back into the mix and Paddy McNair miskicks.

Sam Gallagher watches it coolly into his path, takes a touch and arrows a low drive across keeper Joe Lumley and into the bottom-left corner.

Rovers ahead. It lights Ewood Park.

  8. CLOSE!published at 62 mins

    Blackburn 0-0 Middlesbrough

Matt Crooks' header is cleared off the line by Lewis Travis!

Middlesbrough enjoying a purple patch and it was on the back of Aaron Connolly swiping the ball just wide after another great bit of play from Isaiah Jones.

Jones and Matt Crooks are unlocking the Rovers left-side defence with one-twos and sharp movement.

    Blackburn 0-0 Middlesbrough

Couple of good chances for Middlesbrough.

First of all, Aaron Connolly is set away in the box, but the Boro loanee sees his shot blocked by desperate cover.

Then Isaiah Jones squeezes his way into the Blackburn area, but his rising drive zips the wrong side of the post.

It's a bit scrappy at the moment. Balls bouncing about. Nostrils flaring and tackles going in.

Needs someone to take the ball down, show some poise. It's scattergun. Harum-scarum.

    Blackburn 0-0 Middlesbrough

Sam Gallagher brings the ball down outside the Middlesbrough box and surges forward into it on the attack, winning a corner as his centre is blocked.

The corner is swiped away easily at the near post, an anti-climax of a delivery.

  12. Postpublished at 53 mins

    Blackburn 0-0 Middlesbrough

Darragh Lenihan and Aaron Connolly compete for a looping ball and the Blackburn skipper stays down afterward.

The Rovers skipper tries to get his bearings but his face is strewn with blood from a whack on the schnozz.

He's got those foam tubes in the nostril and will carry on. Connolly might do well to stay away from him for a bit.

He's a tough lad is Republic of Ireland defender Lenihan. He doesn't stay down for nothing.

  13. Postpublished at 51 mins

    Blackburn 0-0 Middlesbrough

Middlesbrough have cranked it up in the second-half and are zipping the ball about with purpose.

Only last ditch work from Blackburn's defensive unit has cleared the lines but it's encouraging for Chris Wilder, who has been audible from the touchline with guidance and direction for his players.

Isaiah Jones and Matt Crooks nicely open Blackburn up down the right and Jones is able to slide a pass into the box, but Darragh Lenihan scoots across to clear.

Reda Khadra gets over to close down Paddy McNair and looks odds-on to rob the Northern Ireland man, but Boro get a free-kick instead.

There is football from the EFL tonight, tomorrow, Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Thursday you'll have to make do with the World Cup qualifying - and also during the week the Africa Cup of Nations which is also running on BBC Sport by the way.

    Or just have a break.

  18. 'We're just missing a goal'published at 20:40 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2022

    HT: Blackburn 0-0 Middlesbrough

    Kevin Gallacher
Former Blackburn striker on BBC Radio Lancashire

I've thoroughly enjoyed it so far.

It's been feisty - there've been tackles going in and both managers will be happy with their teams.

Neither goalkeeper has really had anything to do - we're getting great football and tenacity, we're just missing a goal.

  19. HALF-TIMEpublished at 20:33 Greenwich Mean Time 24 January 2022

    Blackburn 0-0 Middlesbrough

Blackburn v BoroImage source, Rex Features

Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray stomps his way down the tunnel at Ewood Park as the whistle sounds for half-time, a frustrated man.

His side were the more productive outfit in attack, but had nothing to show for it and to be fair, Joe Lumley has not had too many saves to make.

Boro have had lots of the ball in their own half but struggled to get their catalysts like Isaiah Jones and Aaron Connolly into the game.

Jones went down after trotting into the box and some Boro fans and players wanted a spot-kick.

It's been entertaining, but a goal would be nice.
