    FT: Nottingham Forest 1-0 Arsenal

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, speaking to ITV: "They won, they scored a goal and we didn’t. We were not good enough and we have to apologise for it.

"I don’t want to use excuses, I expect the team I put out to do better and when you don’t in the cup you are out.

"Today showed we were not capable of winning against Forest away from home and didn’t put in the level to win the game. It’s a collective issue and today we have not done it."

    Newcastle 0-1 Cambridge United

Joe Ironside caused one of the classic FA Cup upsets on Saturday, but he had to wait for it to be confirmed by VAR. The Cambridge United player has been speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live about that moment.

"To be honest I haven't processed anything," he said. "Just trying to take it in. I didn't sleep at all! It's been a brilliant experience.

"It was an unbelievable atmosphere to play in. It dawns on you how big the stadium it is, how loud it is. When we scored the scenes were just brilliant. What struck me most I couldn't hear anyone in warm-up so I had to get used to the noise of everything.

"[The VAR] wasn't ideal. The longer it went on surely it has to be given. Heart is in your mouth so to speak. The fans got to celebrate it twice."

  8. 'I'm really proud'published at 19:20 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2022

    FT: Nottingham Forest 1-0 Arsenal

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper speaking to ITV: "I think so [we deserved it]. We came up against a really good team. We had a clear game plan. We wanted to be brave with our pressing and get at them on the counter and that's how we scored.

"I'm really proud of the boys, pleased with the performance. It's brilliant to get through and I hope the players now really believe in what we're doing."

On Lewis Grabban: "He's club captain. He's experienced and we work together in terms of how we manage him. Then we brought him on and he scored."

On facing Leicester City in round four: "That will be one we look forward to. I don't know when it is but we need to get ready for Millwall next week. We're thinking about building a way that can serve us right now. It's a big club this."

Would it have been nice to win? Absolutely. Would I prioritise a top 4 finish over anything else this season? Again, absolutely. Forest were the better team on the day so congratulations to them, but the priority for Arsenal should be the league, all eyes on that, and probably worth bringing another CM in this window.

Grumpy Expat: Well done to Forest. But Leno in goal, Lacazette coming on too late and an all round insipid performance with no sense of urgency. It’s like Arsenal have gone back a year in this game

  12. 'We deserved it'published at 19:12 Greenwich Mean Time 9 January 2022

    Nottingham Forest 1-0 Arsenal

Nottingham Forest goalscorer Lewis Grabban speaking to ITV: "It was good! We did well throughout the game, we deserved it and didn’t have many chances but when we got it we put it away. It is always hard against Arsenal but we did deserve it."

On starting as a substitute: "Being a senior one I could do with a rest! Every time I step on the pitch I have a point to prove, but we did well today."

On the next round: "Leicester will be another tough one and we will have to be at our best to get into the next round."

Arsenal coasted the entire game expecting to roll Forest over because they're a division below. Terrible attitude from the players, Arteta will be livid
