It was almost as if the game plan went out the window.

Wales were stuck between a rock and a hard place but once they got that goal it helped to settle them and gave them the opportunity to get into shape and hit on the counter.

Wales have managed the half out. The talking point is definitely the free-kick. What a hit. He always seems to produce it in a Wales shirt. He’s turned up tonight. It was one of those moments you can say 'I was here'.

This is it. I’d be saying ‘break the game down into 15-minute blocks’ and try to get through each one. See if we can get another goal or just dig in for the 15 minutes. Wales edged the first half. One man, one goal is the difference.

A half chance for Wales, but Aaron Ramsey is tackled - accidentally - by Dan James.

A great 45 minutes for Wales.

Good work from Dan James with pressure that was rewarded. Once Ramsey takes his touch you expect him to score but it was a great save from the keeper.

Better spell for Austria as Christoph Baumgartner sees a looping effort easily saved by Wayne Hennessey.

Wales arguably could be further ahead, but for now I think would happily take a 1-0 lead into the break.

Marcel Sabitzer tries a shot from so far out that it's just utterly ridiculous and I can't think of a suitable joke about it.

More high pressing from Wales and Aaron Ramsey goes clear, but his shot just deflects wide.

Moments like that, you need someone to step up. How anyone could doubt Gareth with what he's achieved over the years and what he continues to achieve is beyond me. It's the same with Aaron Ramsey.

Marko Arnautovic should do better there.

He races clear as Wales play an incredibly high line, but his second touch is far too heavy and allows Wayne Hennessey to come out and smother.
