Two-goal hero Karim Benzema speaks to La Liga TV after reaching 301 goals for the club: "I am very proud. Scoring that number of goals in this club makes me feel very happy. For me this is the greatest club in the world. Today I thought we put in a great performance after the defeat against Getafe.

"The first half was balanced. These games, none are easy, the rivals want to win. At the end of the day we have won and that's the most important thing to pick up three more points.

"I've always felt good with Vinicius. I am here to help him. I have always known his potential and I think he can get even better. He is a fantastic player and helps us a lot."

    Karim Benzema

A sublime finish from the French striker as he collects a pull back 12 yards out, turns with a little stud-drag of the ball and finishes right footed into the corner.

It'll be his final contribution as he's to be substituted and that was a truly classy way to go out.

    Too good, just too good.

    Real Madrid 3-1 Valencia

Denis Cheryshev warms the hands of Thibaut Courtois. Cheryshev let fly from 20 yards and while Courtois had to dive, the ball came at him at a nice height.

    Real Madrid 3-1 Valencia

It's been a strange performance by Valencia.

A nice start, they they lost a bit of direction which is understandable. But from 30-60 minutes it's like they just disappeared into the Madrid night.

Now they're at least trying again and showing a bit of energy. I guess against good teams you have to be present at all times and they've paid for not being so.

    Real Madrid 3-1 Valencia

Daniel Wass really does have a cracking long-range strike in the locker.

For the third time tonight he goes close, whistling a right-footed shot narrowly wide.

Valencia are suddenly up for it!

    Goncalo Guedes

Goncalo Guedes steps up and pings his penalty to the left of Thibaut Courtois, who dives and SAVES IT!

The ball rebounds out and Guedes uses all his might to muster the power to head the ball into the opposite corner of the net.

Two bites needed but they all count.

Valencia have a chance from the spot. Ferland Mendy with a tug on the arm of Marcos Andre.

Only he knows why he's done that.

Denis Cheryshev is on for Valencia and he has a pop from 30 yards. Thibaut Courtois would have saved that blindfolded.

It's so, so easy for Real.

    Real Madrid 3-0 Valencia

Asensio stands over a free-kick 35 yards out. This looks a little ambitious and he duly hits the heart of the wall.

Valencia really have gone out with a whimper here. They looked spritely early on but it just drained from them.

  14. GREAT SAVE!published at 63 mins

    Real Madrid 3-0 Valencia

Thibaut Courtois pulls out a world class save to deny Daniel Wass.

The Valencia midfielder thumps one hard and high at the top corner from the edge of the box but the big keeper dives right and gets up to palm it away.

    Superb.

    Vinicius Junior

Vinicius Junior will not score a more straight forward goal than this.

Real Madrid pounce in midfield to rob Valencia of possession. Asensio is played in, his shot is palmed into the air and Vinicius can practically blow it in from a yard.

He nods it home, Carlo Ancelotti is punching the air. This will be an eight-point lead at the top of La Liga.

    Real Madrid 2-0 Valencia

Maxi Gomez fancies a belt from 35 yards as he lines up this free-kick for Valencia.

It deflects off the wall and threatens to cause a bit of mayhem in the six-yard box, only for Karim Benzema to be back there defending.

    Vinicius Junior

The boy is like a slalom skier.

Vinicius Junior feeds Karim Benzema, gets a ball back from the Frenchman and somehow finds himself six yards out with a simple finish.

The ball bounced around a maze of legs and Valencia's Mouctar Diakhaby doesn't cover himself in glory as he gets his feet in a tangle to present the opening.

Turn out the lights, take down the nets, go get a shower.

    This one is done!

    Real Madrid 1-0 Valencia

    Cristiano Piccini booked for Valencia.

He tries a trick in the Real Madrid half and gets it wrong, losing the ball. You just know he will foul Vinicius Junior in order to spare blushes should Real go on and score.

The foul comes, a clear pull and yellow. Self inflicted and a bit mad.

    Real Madrid 1-0 Valencia

Karim Benzema is in his own half to send the ball back to his keeper. Real Madrid in a patient frame of mind it seems and you get the feeling that if Valencia don't show a bit more then this game will just slip away.

If you wanted to midfielders who can just take the sting out of a game and tick minutes away, Modric and Kroos would be up there wouldn't they? They're draining the time away nicely.
