That period of play with the England chances really got the crowd going then. The home side should really be leading though

England have really got the crowd going and one of the results has been a loud show of support for Harry Maguire. Really good spell for England but just not able to cash in yet.

    England 0-0 Germany

Thilo Kehrer goes to ground in the England penalty area with Raheem Sterling the closes home player to him.

Kehrer wants a penalty, the referee isn't interested in the slightest, play on. Seeing it again, Sterling did have a grab of the shirt before the German fell down, but nothing given.

Ian: The modern goalkeeper needs to be comfortable with the ball at his feet and have good distribution. Nick Pope isn’t and doesn’t, England struggle to play out from the back with him in the team. Ramsdale should be starting if Pickford isn’t fit.

Richard Dominy: England shots at goal - wow message finally getting through. Have to say Sterling is moving a lot more rapidly in front of Wembley crowd.

    England 0-0 Germany

England hassle well to win the ball in the midfield. Harry Kane sends it forward to Raheem Sterling and he looks to be in a one-on-one race with defender Thilo Kehrer.

However, Sterling takes a heavy touch and the ball bounces harmlessly out of his range.

I think it was Luke Shaw who hits the pass from deep and curled round the back of the German defence. Raheem Sterling on the right hand side of the box, chops onto his left-foot and tries to feed the ball at the far corner. What a save!

    Hungary 0-1 Italy

The breakthrough has been found in Budapest!

Hungary try to play out from the back but a backpass to the keeper is a little short and it allows Leeds' Wilfried Gnonto to put him under pressure.

The ball breaks free for Giacomo Raspadori and he shifts it to his left foot before slotting into the empty net.

That means Italy would qualify for the finals.

  8. CLOSE!published at 27 mins

    England 0-0 Germany

After 20 minutes with no chances, a couple for England in a couple of minutes. This time Harry Kane hooks a volley goalwards, and it just flies past the post. But that shot and the Sterling chance has cranked up the volume and the atmosphere at Wembley.

  9. GREAT SAVE!published at 26 mins

    England 0-0 Germany

England finally get involved and Raheem Sterling is put through after a great ball forward from Luke Shaw. The pass cuts out three German players.

Sterling cuts inside on to his left foot and tries to place the ball in the bottom corner, but is denied by an outstretched save by Marc-Andre Ter Stegen.

    Much better from England.

Jonas Hofmann has so much space and is free to run down the right wing for Germany and Kai Havertz takes it first time and tries to square it to Leroy Sane but England just about manage to clear.

    Hungary 0-0 Italy

It is still goalless in Budapest.

The game is even, with both sides having 50% possession in the opening 25 minutes. Neither has had a shot on target yet.

A reminder that a draw is enough for Hungary to reach the finals. Italy need a win.

More nervous moments in the England defence. John Stones sends a short pass back to Nick Pope and the Newcastle stopper is just able to hack it clear under pressure from Jonas Hofmann.

Every time the ball is played back to Pope, the Germans are sprinting to charge it down.

Germany with 65% of possession so far while England are yet to have a shot...or a corner.

    England 0-0 Germany

Fortunately for England ex-Manchester City man Leroy Sane can't take advantage of having a free-kick 25 yards out and a jumping home wall does its job with a combination of Declan Rice and Harry Kane ensuring the ball does not get through.

Germany have a free-kick in a promising position after Reece James commits a foul. England haven't offered much yet. Danger for England here...

Nick Pope took a heavy first touch and he was unaware of Havertz, who put him under pressure. And a shot from Gundogan went over the bar, but it doesn't instil you with great confidence [Nick Pope] with the ball on his feet.

England keeper Nick Pope had some nervous moments with the ball at his feet against Italy in Milan and that was another one. He was very lucky to get away with poor control. Could have been embarrassing if Jamal Musiala had been a bit quicker to react.

There was another feature on the other night about the talk of England need to move the ball more quickly and feel like we are virtually saying it every time England get together at one stage or the other.

It's also about making the right decisions. More promising from England.

Goalkeeper Nick Pope almost gets caught out by former England Under-21 international Jamal Musiala after a heavy touch by Pope.

Pope half clears it and it falls to Ilkay Gundogan but the Manchester City midfielder can only send his shot over the top - much to Pope's relief. A let-off for the Three Lions.
