Birmingham fans started the night protesting against the club's ownership and their manager Lee Bowyer ended it protesting against the match officials.

Sheffield United were just about worthy winners after a much better second-half showing and they've got the play-offs in their sights now.

Here's how things look after tonight's game.

Sheffield United move up to 10th in the table courtesy of their win against Birmingham.

They're now three points off the Championship play-off places with games in hand on those around them.

The mood at St Andrew's is as flat and deflated as you'd expect.

The Blades fans are delirious.

That makes it seven wins in nine Championship matches for Sheffield United - with a meeting against former Blades boss Steve Bruce's West Brom to come on Wednesday night.

Well, that escalated quickly.

After a pretty drab first half Lyle Taylor gave the home side the lead.

They pressed for a second but Billy Sharp pegged them back and then Jayden Bogle grabbed a second for the away side.

They're three points off the play-offs now and they're in top form.

One last chance for Blues to get the ball forward.

How they must rue not taking their chance to make it 2-0 when Juninho Bacuna's shot was saved by Wes Foderingham.

Woof.

Birmingham goalkeeper Neil Etheridge is over the halfway line for the home side.

He's jinking this way and that but loses the ball.

David McGoldrick tries to get the ball out of his feet to shoot at the empty net but Juninho Bacuna drags him back.

Into five minutes of time added on.

Sheffield United skipper Billy Sharp is off and David McGoldrick is on.

For the time being Wes Foderingham is staying on in the Blades goal ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

Sheffield United are going to have to make a change in goal.

Keeper Wes Foderingham has gone down before taking a free-kick in the area.

He's getting some treatment but seems unlikely that he'll be able to continue with a muscle injury.

Can Birmingham find an equaliser?

Their past two games have ended 2-2.

Birmingham City make their first changes of the evening.

Jordan Graham and Lukas Jutkiewicz are on and Onel Hernandez and Scott Hogan are off.

Blades win a free-kick in a good area as Kristian Pedersen clatters Sander Berge as he looks to burst forward.

John Fleck whips it in but the home side clear.

A third goal for the away side will end this.

First change of the evening.

Blades livewire Iliman Ndiaye makes way for Oli McBurnie.

Blues boss Lee Bowyer is booked for his protestations about the second Blades goal.

He had a point to be fair as Billy Sharp was offside in the build up to the goal.

I dunno where this was in the first half. It's like watching two different teams.

Iliman Ndiaye forces an error in the Blues backline and sets up John Fleck but his low shot is straight at Neil Etheridge in the home goal.

You've got to respect Billy Sharp's hustle.

The Sheffield United skipper who has made a career out of scoring goals and he's still doing it in the second tier.

He's 36 tomorrow and closing in on 600 league appearances.

Right. So what HAD happened is...

Onel Hernandez fed Gary Gardner and his square ball beat Scott Hogan but Juninho Bacuna was there at the back post to test Wes Foderingham in the Blades goal.

And then yeah... Sheffield United tore down the other end and equalised and now it's now.

Righteo.

What have Sheffield United got now then?

Defeat here would really dent their top-six push.
