Two in two for the Nottingham Forest loanee!

Lyle Taylor shows all his experience and quality to slot home a measured finish from 18 yards after being teed up by Juninho Bacuna.

Birmingham striker Lyle Taylor is in the book for disagreeing with a decision that went against him.

    Getting livelier out there.

Birmingham boss Lee Bowyer will want to see a bit more from his charges.

They're starting to get put under far more pressure at the back and they haven't really created anything of note at the other end, with Marc Roberts' long throws looking their most likely route to goal.

That was the sixth goalless first half at St Andrew's this season - and it is at least encouraging that only two of the previous five went the distance and stayed 0-0 at 90 minutes.

What is also encouraging is seeing that bit of 'afters' just now after Billy Sharp ran 30 yards to get involved in that private grapple between Blues skipper Marc Roberts and Blades striker Iliman Ndiaye.

If it's warm enough to scrap, it must be warm enough to score a few goals too. It's certainly got the crowd enlivened at both ends - and both benches!

    Biggest chance of the game.

Sheffield United are in at the home defence and Sander Begre tees up John Fleck.

His effort is deflected behind for a corner. He maybe should have got his shot away a bit quicker.

    Blades on top now.

What's just gone on there will just spark the tempo a bit and give a little bit more edge to the game.

It might not be bad for the actual game itself.

  7. YELLOW CARDpublished at 50 mins

    Birmingham 0-0 Sheff Utd

    Oooh, getting heated now.

Marc Roberts is booked for Birmingham after a bit of a fracas with Iliman Ndiaye.

Billy Sharp piled in to look after his young team-mate and he's shown a yellow as well.

    Birmingham 0-0 Sheff Utd

Billy Sharp goes down in the area under a challenge from home goalkeeper Neil Etheridge.

The whistle had gone for an offside against Sharp but if it hadn't I think the referee would have given the penalty.

Let's hope for a bit more on-field action this half.

No doubt of interest to fans of both clubs in action this evening is Steve Bruce's appointment as West Brom boss.

Bruce, who has previously managed both Blues and the Blades, was confirmed as Valerien Ismael's successor on Thursday.

The veteran manager is hopeful he can turn the Baggies back into promotion candidates as he looks to take a team into the Premier League for the fifth time.

"But it didn't enter my head when this offer came up. My focus is on getting West Bromwich Albion back in the big league," he told BBC Radio WM.

"And if I didn't think I could do that, I wouldn't be here. It's as simple as that. I would have declined the opportunity."

Bruce's first game in charge of the Baggies is a trip to Bramall Lane to take on Sheffield United on Wednesday.

A scoreline that tells you most of the story.

Blues fans have been protesting against the club's ownership in the stands and that's probably been more interesting than the fare on the pitch so far.

    No shots on target.

Sheffield United will move to within three points of the top six with a win this evening. They'll need to up their game if they're to get that result as Blues have been a match for anything they've offered up to this point.

    Ouch.

Blades goalkeeper Wes Foderingham comes for a high cross but makes an absolute mess of it.

Lyle Taylor looks to set it back for Kristian Pedersen but the pass is way too strong and the shot is skewed into the stand.

It's been a frenetic first half hour at St Andrew's.

Action at both ends. Insurrection in the stands. Whistling. A tannoy announcement of 'Please do not use whistles in the crowd'. And then more whistling.

It all adds up to a very odd atmosphere. But nothing that compared to the drama of the faulty ladder to the TV gantry here in the pressbox, which took up most of the first 20 minutes.

It's a neat looking rope and pulley contraption, which looks like it was invented by my handyman father-in-law, until it stopped working, that is.

A Blues steward has sorted the situation and it now looks to be safely tethered until anyone wants to come down it at half time. But it was such a distraction that no scribe close to the incident appears to have taken a single note of what was happening meanwhile out on the pitch!

    Birmingham 0-0 Sheff Utd

Birmingham goalkeeper Neil Etheridge takes decisive action to punch a corner away.

That's the only kind of work he's been called into so far this evening.

    Birmingham 0-0 Sheff Utd

Blues have the ball on a break away but Juninho Bacuna's pass in to Lyle Taylor is overhit and the move breaks down.

Taylor was in a good position if the former Huddersfield man had been more accurate with his ball.

    That's a bit better.

Birmingham winger Onel Hernandez shows great pace to get away down their left but his low cross is smuggled away by John Fleck.

Paul Heckingbottom has hit the ground running since taking over at Sheffield United in November.

His side have looked the more likely to break the deadlock in this first 30 minutes but I have to admit that isn't saying a great deal.

    Dear me.

It's not great this at the moment.

Both teams giving the ball away really cheaply and struggling to get any kind of fluency in their passing.

Some nice work from young Blades forward Iliman Ndiaye but an errant pass sees the move break down.

Neither goalkeeper has been forced into action yet.
